her life in mercury flats had never been easy. even outside the walls of their home, the neighborhood carried its own kind of heaviness. mercury flats always felt like the kind of place that people wanted to escape from, but for bianca, it wasn’t just the neighborhood— she wanted to escape what waited for her every time she walked through that front door.
her mother had left when she was young. she left without her and for years, bianca believed that there had to be a better reason than what it was. she convinced herself that her mother would be back whenever she’d gotten on her feet or even found somewhere safe enough for the both of them. but years came and went until bianca finally stopped waiting. it was always going to be just her and her father.
he had a sort of temper that dictated everything within the house. bee grew to learn what kind of night it would be by the sound of his footsteps before he’d even opened the front door. she learned to stay quiet, when to disappear into room and how to make herself disappear entirely. don’t be heard and definitely don’t be seen.
if she had to say she inherited anything from him, it’d be her refusal to back down. she wasn’t loud for the sake of being loud but she’d never been the type to shrink herself either. she had learned young that there wasn’t anyone who’d come to save her, so she stopped waiting for permission to take up space. she let herself be who she was.
she found dance when she was fifteen years old. it started as an after school activity— something that kept her away from home longer—but eventually turned into something that sje couldn’t live without. she’d spend every afternoon in the studio and every emotion she felt ended up finding its way into choreography. her outlet when she didn’t have one.
by seventeen, she was gone. it was a planned escape. every paycheck that she earned from her part-time job would go straight into a little box she kept hidden in her closet. the plan, though, was never to leave when she did. it was always suppose to be after graduation, but after another argument ended the exact same way it always did, she realized that she didn’t want to wait anymore. she couldn’t. she left the house with one bag, got herself a one-way bus ticket to los angeles and never looked back.
starting over wasn’t easy, but it was better than whatever she had in cascade. she worked whatever jobs she could while finishing school, lived in tiny apartments with people she’s never met and stretched every dollar as far as it would go. dance remained the one thing in her life she continued to be passionate about. slowly, she managed to grow from a student to a professional and finally landed herself jobs as a back up dancer while also transitioning into choreography. it was the kind of life she deserved. something she worked herself to the brim for because bee was never going to settle for anything less. this was her life, her dream, and she would’ve fought until she was bleeding to get it. bee got herself a steady job, good friends and a place that felt safe enough to call home— a real home.
the only reason she’s back in town was because she’d gotten a phone call informing her about her father’s passing. she was his next of kin and didn’t really have a choice but to return. bee came back with the expectation to only stay long enough to settle the estate, clear out the house and disappear again. instead, she found herself renting a temporary room in a small apartment in old cascade because she hadn’t imagined it’d be this hard. not because of her father (she couldn’t care less about him) but the idea of having to tackle the nightmare that awaited for her inside that home. two weeks in, bee hasn’t worked up the nerve to do it. it’s been ten years and that house in mercury falls still scares her.
004. CURRENT CONNECTIONS .
@ardentlymine , estranged friends .
005. WANTED CONNECTIONS.
best friend. someone she was really close to. they knew everything about each other and whenever bee showed up with a new bruise or like life had been drained from her, she didn't have to explain with them. she didn't need to pretend if she didn't want to and they let her just be her. they could've grown up in the same neighborhood, were classmates or were even apart of the same class. despite all the years that went by, they never lost contact— maybe they even ran away with her or they supported each other from a distance. regardless, bee doesn't see a version of her life that doesn't have them in it.
estranged friends. once upon a time, they used to be one of the very few people that bee ever trusted. they knew about her father, the injuries she tried to hide, her dream of leaving cascade one day. then one morning, she was gone. didn't say goodbye, never gave an explanation. ten years of silence managed to fester into resentment and now that she's back, it's hard to exist around each other anymore. every conversation manages to turn into an argument and things are constantly left unsaid. the worst part is that bee does miss them, but can't seem to put her pride to the side long enough to show it.
her can't quit you. they consistently get under each other's skin. even long before bianca left town, that seemed to be their thing. there had always been something there, but both of them were too blind to see it— too young to really know what to do with it. now that she's back, they're somehow still falling into the same toxic patterns. jealous, possessive, argumentative and love to push each other's buttons. neither of them can seem to walk away, but they always refuse to admit that there's a reason for it.
her almost. here were feelings there all those years ago. lingering gazes, conversations that lasted ages and a hundred opportunities that never turned into anything more than what it was. whatever it could've been disappeared the night bianca did. now that she's back and neither of them are the same people they used to be, but it's hard to not wonder what would've happened if she had stayed,
dance partner/coworker(s). while she's away from los angeles, bianca's taken up working at a local dance studio in town as a way to pass some time. this person is someone who share's bee's world. they could currently teach at the same studio or have been constantly thrown into the same projects/jobs. there's a sense of familiarity and understanding there because they share the same passion and dreams. this is someone bianca wouldn't have to try so hard to be around because it comes so effortlessly.
former rival(s). whether it was dance, school or something else entirely, these two were always trying to outdo each other. everything somehow turned into a challenge into who could push themselves further. there could've been jealously, maybe some admiration hidden underneath the competitiveness, maybe even both. years later, neither of them are kids anymore but that feeling never really disappeared. there's still a part of bee that wants to prove she's better whenever they're in the same room.
other generic connections. roommate(s) !!!, childhood friends, faux siblings, friends, enemies, flirationships, friends with benefits/one night stands, exes from high school (good or bad terms), former friends, negative/positive influences, and honestly whatever your heart desires! bee's honestly open to everything.
