unpopular opinion probably but jimâs arc should have ended with trollhunters
jimâs involvement in wizards really worried me for rise of the titans. yeah it was hype as shit seeing him again but the plot being split between him and douxie in what was supposed to be douxieâs story was kinda lowkey annoying. to top that off it was obvious he was going to jump to the helm again with the foreshadowing with excalibur and i just remember thinking oh no. i love my boy to tears but that dude had three seasonâs worth of development. not that i disliked the decision to turn him human again at the end of wizards, but i feel like things would have been a billion times simpler if he just hadnât
jim relinquishing his role as the trollhunter is not my issue with rott via unbecoming. itâs the fact that that episode specifically served to teach him that heâs the trollhunterâand a hero!âregardless of if he had it or no. douxie even reminds him of this at the end of wizards. jim remaining a half troll permanently would have at least granted an emotional foothold in his role, because he would continue to exist as a bridge between the worlds of man and troll regardless of if heâs some magical savior anymore
look man. rott was a culmination of three different stories converging for one final battle. nobody should have had any more growing to do in this movie. we watched leadership blossom between four different characters and it should have been a balanced four-way partnership between jim, aja, krel, and douxie combining their talents and experience to solve the problem with the help of their respective friends
to put it simply: rise of the titans should not have hinged its entire plot on the concept of the trollhunter and merlinâs magic. it feels extremely unfair to the other seriesâ, which are brilliant in their own ways, and erases the growth of our characters (mainly jim and douxie while sidelining the hell out of the tarrons) in a manner that is arguably more unjust than the movieâs actual ending
