Do I Need a Title?

So every time I tried to get more active on here, putting out my own thoughts or what not, something has occurred (typically irl) that led to me falling off.

I do not know what this tumblr is for or about. I've tried to fit into different niches (like writeblr) but I don't quite fit a category, maybe? Tried to compartmentalize with side blogs, but...same issues.

In my thirties now, and still trying to figure out life and what I want to do with mine.

So I thought I just experiment, throw some stuff out, try a bit here and there. Ramble when I feel like rambling.

A personal short-term goal I have is to read thirty books in thirty days. Majority of the books on my list are either comics or graphic novels. So I might track that here. Tomorrow's my day off of work, so here's to getting some titles done (I know some work days, I probably won't get to read as much).

I used to get a lot of hate for using the word "queer" in the title of this project. One of the justifications I gave was that LGBT+ was too easy to take apart. Just drop whatever letter you don't like and go on with your day.

My posts have gotten tagged LGB more and more often lately. Usually accompanied by the worst additions imaginable. People are starting to whittle down and choose who they think of as disposable, so let me say this:

Queer as in trans people

Queer as in asexual people

Queer as in aromantic people

Queer as in nonbinary people

Queer as in bisexual people

Queer as in unlabled people

Queer as in anyone who counts themselves as queer.

Queer as in no questions asked, just an open door and a place to stay.

AAAHHH this articulates my felt response to "What's wrong with LGBTQIA+?" which is like. Well there's nothing wrong with it. It's fine. It's an eyeful and a mouthful and confusing to keep up with, sure, but that's a little objection, it's not a real objection.

The real objection is that people won't use it. They'll say LGBTQIA+, then they'll say LGBTQ+, then LBGT+. Then LGBT. Then LGB... and maybe even just LG, and then maybe even those letters will want to separate from each other.

I'm not mad about the letter salad. Yeah, I am LGBTQIA+. I'm even LGBT, though it's losing a bit of truth already. Honestly even LGB includes me--it just excludes me, simultaneously.

Queer can't be trimmed down when the next exclusionist wave hits. That's a strength. That's why it should remain a dominant and acceptable term, in academia, in policy, in public, in practical use.

We're here. We're crosswise to the status quo of sex, gender, relationship, and sexuality. We as a group are only generally, not strictly, definable. We're definitely not mainstream. That's queer. That's reclaimed. That's the truth. Can we get used to it, already?

I used to be the most simple, explainable 'version' of aro. I didn't have any interest in relationships, never experienced anything close to a crush, and just felt very detached from romance in general

this hasn't been the case recently and losing the assurance I had from how simply I was able to identify with that label has been pretty lame, and trying to communicate any of the complexities of my experience has been pretty awful

so yeah shoutout to aro people who's experience with aromanticism isn't easily explainable. shoutout to aro people who've experienced romantic attraction. shoutout to aro people who don't know if they've experienced romantic attraction. shoutout to aro people who are interested in romantic relationships. and shoutout to aroallo people, generally

Say you break your ankle. You could know everything there is to know intellectually about the injury. Even with this vast knowledge, you will still experience physical pain.

My Local Library Has Banned Pride Flags

I talk a lot about libraries here, and right now, I need to rally as much support as possible for mine. In Edmonton, Pride flags have been banned. Please kick up as much of a fuss about this as possible; if you are Albertan, contact your local representatives. Just now, on social media, the library account began spreading lies about the policy and the union, so it looks like they are going to try to stand their ground.

The union is standing up against this, so we are supporting them here. I will keep you updated on what actions can be taken to change this. Right now, the union has signed an open letter to our mayor, and I plan on calling Mayor Amarjeet Sohi using his publicly available phone number: 780-496-8100.

This is such a stupid take. “Symbols of inclusion may unintentionally exclude others” YEAH NO SHIT. We call that the paradox of intolerance - maintaining a tolerant society means we cannot tolerate the intolerant.

Look, I get it. Library spaces are supposed to be open to everyone. I want to work in libraries soon, I’m fully aware of that. But there are no such things as truly “neutral spaces”. And if there are people who feel “excluded” because of inclusive symbols like pride or pro-Palestine or pro-union flags/graphics, then perhaps the library space is not for them and they can just leave.
