#holy shit this is so so cool #i am completely ignorant of history of sign language but the fact that BASL is it’s own separate dialect is fascinating
There are actually several dialects of ASL outside the standard one taught in most places! Some of these are gray areas, such as Burundian Sign Language (LSB), which is close enough to ASL that some consider it a dialect but still distinct enough that others consider it a separate language entirely.
