Brett zipped up his hoodie as he stepped out of his car. His appearance was a little more dishevled than normal, but he really wanted to get to the studio. Not too long ago, he had received a text from Casey, notifying him that the demo for the new single - well, potential new single - was done. As the manager, he knew he didn’t have certain creative rights, but things generally went a little more smoothly when everyone agreed. Taking the two cups of coffee from cupholders in his car, he pushed his door closed with his hip and walked into Warrior Records. It wasn’t long before he found the studio where they normally recorded. “Hey,” he said, nodding to Casey who was already there. “Brought you some coffee, just the way you like it,” he said, handing her a cup. He settled down in the chair next to her, smoothing down his hair which was still sticking up since he hadn’t showered this morning. “Hope you haven’t been waiting too long, I’m just waking up,” he yawned.

I genuinely think that recording is devouring my fuckin’ soul. I stopped getting dressed two months ago, and I don’t remember the last time I had real human interaction. Am I even human anymore?
Fallout Records is really working you hard, huh?

So after I put the little cup thing in the thing and push the button, my coffee is supposed to come out right? Because nothing’s happening. I think I broke the machine…
I swear, you musicians are absolutely useless at everything that doesn’t involve music.

It actually is. She lets me and Logan use her basement studio, and we have jobs so that helps.
You’re recording music again?

Probably not. Sorry about that.
You tour the world. You can learn these things. Just open your eyes.

She was the fucking singer. You’re being really fucking insensitive right now. She lost her shot anyway, but fuck you don’t have to rub shit in people’s faces.
So it’s okay for you and Nate to take time off tour, and have your band still play with back ups, but it’s not okay for mine?

You’re not the most socially adept person.

Confidence goes a long way with people. Appear confident and people just follow because the rest of us are unsure.
Yeah, I’ve noticed. It’s gotten me this far.

Coffee || Keeva & Brett
Keeva smiled a bit wider as he Brett pulled her into a hug and opened the door for her to go into the coffee shop. “Life’s been good, I guess..” She said with a small sigh. “I’m still adjusting to being in one place for more than a few hours but I’m loving sleeping back in my own bed again. And I’m excited to get back in the studio. you know? Writing, long studio sessions, and actually get some music out.” Being on this past tour, Keeva felt a little out of place, with every group or performer there either competing for a record deal or promoting new music and then there was The Institutions, just doing the same old songs. Yes, she knew that her bandmate and friend was going through things that she refused to address because it wasn’t her place, but Keeva was going crazy with not putting things out there and hoping that things would change soon.
“You actually took days off from work? I never thought I’d hear those words from you, Brett.” Keeva teased with a smile as she looked around the coffee place. It had a really nice vibe and character to it; different from any kind of coffee shop she had been to since she made the move to Tennessee and she liked it a lot. Keeva quickly turned her head over at Brett when he offered to have her order first, smiling back at him before going over the boards to look over what she wanted. After a few minutes, she ordered a Caramel Macchiato and a cheese danish before turning her attention back to him. “Your turn, Brett.”
Keeva was usually bright and cheery, so even when she seemed a little disappointed or sad, it was hard to tell. He had seen her working long days in the studio, sometimes by herself, and he knew part of her had to be frustrated. Brett listened - he was good at listening when he wanted to be - and nodded. He had noticed the Intuitions’ set list was pretty stale. People still came out (Keeva’s voice really was incredible) but there was only so much life you could bring to a set after playing the same songs, year after year. “It would be great to hear some new songs,” Brett said, “I’ve always been a fan.” He was happy she had brought this up. He could use this later...
“Yes, I desperately needed it,” he smiled, enjoying her being playful with him. He wanted her to be comfortable. Brett placed his order after hers, ordering a regular coffee and a blueberry muffin, and paid for their orders with cash. He ushered her to a seat in the corner while they waited for their drinks. He hoped it was private enough for them to sit undisturbed for the remainder of their date.”You know,” he began, opting to be a little more open that he had initially planned, “I haven’t been on a, well a date, in a while. And I feel like we’re beyond small talk at this point, so how about this? Why don’t you tell me something about yourself that I don’t know. And I’ll tell you something about myself that you don’t know, deal?” He offered out his hand to her to shake.
But then wouldn’t every city have one really good restaurant and the rest would all just be like other places versions?
How are you not understanding what I’m saying? Do you really not know anything about the world?

Lots of shitty musicians and stuff get popular. Teenagers have shit taste. They like shitty angsty music from people who can’t express themselves without being dramatic as all fuck. They’re not a fucking band, they’re one rapper and a drummer. And they’re only “alternative” because they write shitty angsty lyrics and the rapper can’t fucking rap.
Teenagers with shitty taste need music too. Everyone needs music.

Casey replacing her would have been insensitive. People were sympathetic, they forced her off the tour to get help. Insensitive would be letting her stay.
I don’t think her needing time off should have disqualified the entire band.

Being popular doesn’t mean they’re good.
How are they popular if they aren’t good? Someone is listening to them.
