Ok, but hear me out.
A Legally Blond AU with Ilya as Elle Woods.
Yuna secretly agrees with Ilya that Hayden Pike is a mediocre hockey player, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.
Hayden is not the ally that fanfics portray him to be. He is not an ally at all. In fact, he never showed any respect for Shane and Ilya's relationship.
Hayden would lose his mind if Shane talked about Jackie the same way Hayden does about Ilya.
It's so clear that Hayden would hate Ilya no matter what, so Illya not bothering to make an effort is more than fair.
Hayden punched Ilya because of a chirp, but sure Ilya is the asshole and deserved it, right?
Just out of spite I headcanon that, after hearing about the events in My Dinner With Hayden, Svetlana absolutely hates Hayden.
The audacity of Hayden asking Ilya this, as if Ilya wouldn't also be outed is this scenario, as if Ilya wouldn't suffer repercussions too (specially because of Russia).
In the end, Hayden being the one who outed them not only is ironic, but was inevitable.
For me a lot of Ilya's journey is about him building a strong support system.
We can all agree that Ilya would never let his friends treat Shane like how Hayden treats Ilya.
Can we talk about how Hayden's biphobic comments to Ilya are never treated as something hurtful and serious, but just as him "being protective of Shane" or Ilya "deserving them" for chirping Hayden and having a past?
I know that is a joke made in good faith, but the "Shane domesticated bisexual freak Ilya" is a take so rooted in biphobia.
Not only I absolutely hate everything about My Dinner With Hayden, but I will die on the hill that Shane should have been angrier at Hayden.
Is this a safe place to say I hate the "Shane walks Ilya like a dog narrative"?
I know that, regarding Hayden and Ilya’s relationship, R.R was probably trying for humor, but it doesn't work because their dynamic is unbalanced. Hayden really despises Ilya and thinks he is truly a bad guy who isn't worth Shane, while Ilya is just mildly annoyed at Hayden.
I love Shane, he's a dear. But sometimes I do wish he would draw boundaries in how Hayden treats/talks about Ilya.
I think that the way Hayden reacted to Shane and Ilya relationship only fueled Shane's fear that he couldn't be open about being with Ilya not even to his friends, hence why he did not tell J.J.
Hayden proved that it wasn't safe, not only because of how he acted in the first moment, but also by how he treated Ilya like the enemy even years after.
Hayden is a mediocre friend at best and no one will convince me otherwise.
