What do you guys think of this new Kylo info?

I think it adds so much more depth to his character. We thought he was just an angsty teen with daddy issues, but now he has psychopathic tendencies? This is much more than a simple difference in perspective–more than having a different point-of-view than Jedi. Let’s discuss!

I love it. Since I’m such a Darth Bane/Rule of Two/general Sithy advocate, to know that Kylo’s emotional state is so much more involved, almost psychopathic/sociopathic is much more alluring to me. My ideal AU would be for Kylo to become a Sith Lord and just kill everybody. Give into the hate! Hahaha.

I don’t know if Kylo is “evil” just to be evil. He might be–I mean, Snoke basically molded him into the person who we see in TFA, which the majority of audiences believe to be evil, but I don’t believe that every Sith is evil. I don’t know if Kylo has a motive deep down for doing what he’s doing, or if Snoke just made him that way and he is truly the villain. 

Again, I’ll use Darth Bane for an example. Darth Bane wasn’t evil. He had a motive for killing Jedi and the entirety of Sith during his time. He, like those who followed after him, believed that only the strong should have the right to survive. He believed that being Force sensitive was like a gift that you had to fight for, and if you couldn’t defend it then why do you deserve to have it? As fucked up as this reasoning is, it was a motive. Whether or not you believe it’s evil is up to you. I’m just a fucked up individual who likes a good storyline and badass characters. 

We don’t fully know what Kylo’s motivation is yet. He clearly isn’t strong enough to deserve Force sensitivity, as Rey defeated him. But he’s also not Sith, and he’s not fully Dark Side. So I don’t know what to make of him, honestly. I think that he has some fucked up reasoning as to why he’s doing what he’s doing though.

Oh that’s exactly my point, I don’t think Sith are evil. That’s why I said it’s literally just a different perspective. Because it is. Obi Wan even said it: many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

There’s always motive, for Jedi and Sith. Their perspective on that motive is just different. The Sith code thrives on passion while the Jedi code revolves around peace and balance.

We know Kylo felt parental neglect. We know he’s young and immature still. We know he hated Han. I agree there is a fucked up reason for him going with Snoke, but I think it may relate to the trauma from parental neglect. There may be more to that or I may be overestimating it, since we really don’t know what it entails. But my guess is that it’s much more complex and much deeper than it seems at surface level. It has to be or else he wouldn’t have been so tempted by Snoke.

I think there is a lot more to Kylo than originally perceived. I think he is a much darker character. I am just not sure if HE knows that yet. By all means, though, he may not be, it may just be simple impulsivity OR for all we know Snoke is making him keep those ashes as some sort of “step” in fully turning to the dark side.

Personally, I still think he has a lot of light left in him. He is doing these things (killing his father, keeping those ashes, etc.) to try and turn himself to the dark side. I think he’s been upset with his family and everything he’s had to deal with and he wanted a way out, even though no matter how hard he tries, he can’t rid himself of the light inside himself.

Ohh okay, so he’s using it as a way to force himself to help fully turn to the dark side. Okay I like this theory as well.

I think "parental neglect" plays a huge part in what he has become. I personally can speak on this as my father was never around and my mother limited her involvement in my life. No matter what age you are, at some level everyone looks for direction and guidance from their parental unit. When you do not find that you look elsewhere. I feel that Ben/Kylo did this with Luke but there was a lot left to be desired. Luke's motivation was in restoring the Jedi Order and not in making sure that Ben would become a decent human being.

I'm guessing that the neglect went from parental neglect to familial neglect and with the amount of power he was experiencing within be felt lost and unstable. Snoke's role is yet to be determined but it sounds like he came in at just the right time and was able to manipulate Ben's frustrations to his advantage. I don't think that Ben originally idolized Darth Vader but Snoke used Vader's story as a rallying point to tap the darkness inside of Ben. At it's simplest level it is manipulation, something we see everyday whether in the paper or on the news. Those wanting to supreme power and control will manipulate others perception to achieve the desired effect.

I really like Ben/Kylo and I am excited to see what happens when he truly begins to tap into his full potential, force wise. I've read a lot of online theories and there is one that as much as I hate to admit, I subscribe to. The Skywalkers are evil, born of the darkside and are the reason for all the unbalance in this galaxy. Anakin was created for one purpose, to assist Sheev in taking total control of the galaxy. Anakin's family tree obviously grew and inadvertently has strangled everything around it. Almost as though Luke an Leia have gone about life with an unknown reckless abandon for others...not intentional, they just haven't ever given much thought to the end result. It should be interesting to see what a redemption against the Skywalker's looks like in Episode Nine. My two cents...
