This Is J Cole. Jermaine, Jermaine Cole. He needs no introduction. • • He along with his label mates and staff put together a classic third installment of their compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers earlier this year. Dreamville held the eyes, hearts and expectations of hip hop heads around the globe their hands. We watched as invitations were plastered on social media and anticipation sweltered ceaselessly. • • 343 invitees 147 songs recorded 10 days • • Dreamville as a label has a lot to celebrate after a triumphant year. Not only have they received numerous Grammy nominations, but they secured platinum records for the most artists and producers on one album-that’s big. But this album is more than awards. It’s the revitalization of the spirit of hip hop; a collaborative process where everybody eats. • • To show appreciation and gratitude for their hard work, I’ve put together a compilation of some of Dreamvilles finest work from the roster to the invitees. This is Ari Lennox. • • She’s hails from the DMV (Washington, D.C. to be exact). Whether you know her as a gifted songstress or specialist in the Instagram live department, you will know the name Ari Lennox. • • The First Lady of Dreamville is finishing up her fourth year on the label after releasing her debut album ‘Shea Butter Baby.’ • • From my discovery of her PHO project in 2016, I’ve been awaiting her triumphant return to music. Her flips of classic records like Life Moves On by Rodney Franklin and approach to records made me an instant fan. But as time went on and frustration with the process of being an artist intensified, Lennox has teased retirement numerous times over the past few years. Luckily, she blessed us with a timeless album in Shea Butter Baby. This is Omen. • • He is a Chi Town emcee, home to infamous Chicago artists like Common, Lupe Fiasco and many more. • • Omen is a platinum member in the Dreamville camp; an affiliate since day one. He met J. Cole via online chat. The two would often share music back and forth, leading to a collaborative venture between the two. Omen appeared on two of Cole’s most profound tapes including the Warm Up and the classic Friday Night Lights. • • Admittedly, I’m the least familiar with this gentlemen; that reigns true for most of the world, too. He dropped Elephant Eyes in the summer of 2015 and like Avatar the last Air Bender...he vanished (kinda). With his recent showing on the Revenge of the Dreamers 3 project, however, he’s proven he can still get busy. This is JID. • • Like his labelmates Olu and WowGr8 of Earthgang, JID is an Atlanta-bred emcee, another gifted artist innovating from the south. • • Before his official signing with Dreamville in 2017, JID already set himself apart from the competition of his class in mid 2016. • • I was exposed to JID via YouTube (of course) during my sophomore year of college. His most seminal song (in my opinion) M.O.M. featuring Quentin Miller popped up in my recommended. The beat enchanted me immediately. JID’s first verse was astounding. How he complimented it so well with the pocket he was in. From that point on I was sure of his potential but to reach the level of stardom in such little time is even more impressive. He’s a well connected emcee with the backing of great artist like Earthgang, 6lack, Mereba, and plenty more. This is Olu. • • Olu AKA Johnny Venus is come straight from the derrty South (Atlanta, Georgia to be exact). Olu is one half of the vibrant group Earthgang- along with his costar WowGr8. • • Before they were signed to Dreamville in late 2017, Earthgang marked their territory in the underground hip hop scene, and continued to garner attention from big names, including members of Dreamvilles star studded cast. Formerly member of super group Spillage Village accompanied by counterparts Mereba (who is also featured on Revenge of the Dreamers 3) Jordxn Bryant and Hollywood JB, Venus was instrumental in redefining the sound in Atlanta. • • Olu is definitely the lively and audacious personality of the duo. He and Gr8 met in high school and from that fateful encounter they have developed the divergent brand that is Earthgang. I enjoy that they’re their both their biggest advocates and critics and that they are receiving the acclaim they deserve. This is WowGr8. • • He is a southern raised emcee (Atlanta, Georgia to be exact). Gr8, also known as Doctur Dot, is one half of the vibrant group Earthgang- along with his costar Olu. • • Before they were signed to Dreamville in late 2017, Earthgang marked their territory in the underground hip hop scene, and continued to garner attention from big names including members of Dreamvilles star studded cast. Inactive member of super group Spillage Village accompanied by counterparts Mereba (who is also featured on Revenge of the Dreamers 3) Jordxn Bryant and Hollywood JB, Gr8 was instrumental in redefining the sound in Atlanta. • • Though the Gang draws comparisons to Outkast, Gr8 and Olu are individually sound and harmonious as a duo. This is Bas. • • Fiend Bassy is the international man on Dreamvilles roster. Born in Paris, France, raised in Queens, New York, the diversity of his environment translates directly into his music. • • Bas signed to Dreamville in early 2014 before the release of his project “Last Winter.” The Boca Raton emcee did what many spittas dream of doing: impressing J. Cole. Cole signed Bas simply because he’s “fucking good.” The label is blood in, blood out- without the violence. Dreamville’s acting president Ibrahim Hamad is Bas’s older brother. • • One of my personal favorites on the roster, Bas has crafted a wonderful career with two cult classic projects in Last Winter and Too High To Riot. This is Cozz. • • He’s a LA native at heart but his sound is transcendent beyond the Pacific. He’s five year deep on the Dreamville roster in a class of his own. • • He’s a non traditionalist west coast artist. He has the catalog of a diversified spitta with the intensity to match. With features from big names from Kendrick Lamar to J Cole, he’s a respected emcee.
