And this is the timelapse for the drawing (sorry for the separate post; as far as I could tell, I had to make a new one to share the video without uploading it somewhere else first).
I did a quick, messy drawing to test the new timelapse feature in Clip Studio Paint, and aside from one very minor pause when I accidentally turned Border Effects on on a layer that had a lot of stuff on it, there were no noticeable issues.
i think it would be plausible for gems to be affected by the seasons and the changing daylight hours due to their being solar-powered. so during the shorter days, they might have less energy and their mood drops? just a thought.
every time I see a photo of a bear it’s like. that really is the ideal animal. large. fat. virtually indestructible. vaguely resembles both a large dog and a person. absolutely could and probably would maul me but nonetheless looks extremely huggable. 10/10 creatures, immaculate
Could you write a little angsty piece for Pearl, seeing Star and Diamond split up? I just... I don't think enough people realize how much that would break her. then again i don't usually browse the.... chadverse?
The first few times Steven splits, the panic from Pearl is smothering. She tries her best, because she always tries her best. Nevertheless, Diamond’s flat face and Star’s miserable one is far too much to take. Everything in the world is shifted and wrong. She hasn’t felt like this since... well. Not since Rose left.
She tries to pull herself together and be there for him. It’s not easy, but she tries. Stars, it hurts so terribly to see him split, to see the diamond in his belly and his pink transparent form. It takes her years to get used to it. Well, not really used to it. She’s there for him, and supporting him, far earlier than that. It takes her years to get ready to talk about it.
Pearl’s very old. That’s very fast for her.
She comes to Diamond while he’s making tea. That’s something they in common actually. They like the art of making tea and the scent of it, though she prefers not to drink it. Diamond likes to eat.
She starts with a friendly talk, smiling as she watches him measure tea into a French press. “You know,” she says trying to keep her voice light. “If you ever want to change your form or your clothes, I’d be happy to teach you. It’s a bit trickier than changing your shirt, but-.”
“No thanks,” Diamond says, leaning against the counter as he waits for his water to boil.
Pearl swallows. Awkwardly clears her throat. “There are a few other things we could talk about - if you’re in the mood to talk.”
He pauses then murmurs, “I know it must hurt to see me like this. I’m sure it’s a reminder than Mom is really gone.”
“No,” she says. It’s an instinctual lie, and it comes out so quick it’s obvious. She can see the slight roll of his eyes, and lowers her own. “Yes. That isn’t easy to handle. It’s... seeing her gem in your is confirmation she’s gone, and that hurts.”
The kettle dings and he shrugs as he pours the water in. She listens to the water trickle in, covering the leaves, and it isn’t long before the floral scent fills the kitchen. “I can’t fix it for you. I keep my gem covered up, but I can’t hide that I’m all gem. I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize, Diamond. That’s...” She shakes her head, and guilt pours into her belly that his first thought is wondering how to help her through this. She pushes on. “It’s upsetting, but that’s not something I would put on you. I talk to Garnet.”
Diamond blinks. “Then do you want to talk to me about?”
She makes a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob, her hand gesturing to him, then falling away. “Because you’re hurting, Diamond. You’re not a fusion that’s fallen apart. You’re a fragment. Do you really think I don’t want to help?”
He set the lid on top, plunger high, voice cool. “I spent years helping everyone else. Accepting help is hard enough. Asking for it is impossible.” He shrugs, and thought Star or Steven would set a timer, Diamond looks at the tea and holds the passing seconds in his head. “I didn’t think you’d want to help.”
She steps closer, setting her hand on his. Energy crackles on the surface of him, pure power that’s barely restrained. Her voice is soft. “I’ve never been good at understanding what people need from me. That’s not a Pearl’s job. We follow orders, not anticipate them.” Her fingers curl around his, gripping them tight. “But seeing you like this rips my heart in half. Please, Steven. Tell me what to do. I’ll help.”
His Adam’s apple bobs. “Make some tea with me? We could start there.”
