doctor who is my longest running special interest. it has been my special interest since i was nine, the master specifically has been my special interest for about eight years. i’m chained to that hell universe and always will be (even if complain about it a lot) (i also refer to gatwa’s doctor as 14 and tennant’s second stint as 13.5 because i have a lot of feelings about ‘who numbering so tagging will reflect that)

i’ve got thoughts and feeling about billie returning.

like i love billie piper, i think she’s an amazing actor. but it’s just she shouldn’t have been brought back to be the doctor.

i’m very much a fan of having a relatively unknown play the doctor. and for the doctor to be played by somebody who can bring a new spin on the role. i just don’t think billie can offer that and i see them trying to do a rose 2.0 and bad wolf persona. and we’ve seen that. it’s not new.

i think it’s very much a ploy to grab viewers and as a way for RTD to toot his own horn/centralise his og era as being the most important one in the show’s history.

like i was really really excited for doctor who. like yes we’re getting the rani back!! but that episode? it just feels like they wanted the master but didn’t want to have the master in it so they used the rani as a placeholder/didn’t want to use the master’s name.

like dancing before/with the doctor? that’s been every master in new who.

revolving their plans around the doctor? that’s the master.

wanting to get the doctor’s attention at every possible moment? that’s the master.

weird foreplay about being the last of the timelords? that’s the doctor and the master.

the rani doesn’t care about the doctor, she wants to be left alone to do her experiments. she doesn’t do maniacal world ending plans, she just takes planets over so she can do science. she wouldn’t be messing around with magic and superstition and the supernatural. they’ve destroyed what made her The Rani.

it just kinda feels like this episode was written for the master but instead rtd wanted to add shock factor so he changed it to the rani at the last possible moment (just did a find and replace with the name)

one of my favourite theories as to why the rani is waging war against the doctor is because she’s pissed the universe is now being ran by magic and superstition instead of reason, science and logic.

one of the best decisions yellowjackets has ever made is reverting the women back into girls at their most vulnerable moments. shauna when she kills adam, nat laying her head in lottie's lap, misty seeing young natalie in the mirror, misty in the morgue seeing lottie because this truly hammers home that their lives stopped the moment that plane went down and that no matter how much time has passed by, they're still those teenage girls who were on their way to their football game and lost 19 months of their lives trying to survive.
