It was odd, wanting to make sure James was still willing to continue this trip with them. For so long itâs only Ameliaâs feelings he ever thought about, sometimes Peggyâs. Steve was a strong, independent, stubborn man. He spent so much of his younger years being a scrapper. He was elegant with his words now (when not stumbling over himself like an idiot) but in his past he was all fists. Parents both dying when he was young, he never learned much else.
The squeeze to his palm makes all the stress die from Rogerâs shoulders. This man was an absolute blessing. Perhaps all those prayers to God had gotten through and He had sent James Barnes, one of His very own angels, just for him.
Amelia was in the middle of explaining to her father the ten reasons why the Red Pandas where her favorite part of the zoo when Steve felt Bucky let go. He turned around to see if something was wrong. A woman with long brunette hair and brilliant steel eyes was giving his date a kiss on the cheek. She doesnât really pull away, keeping a hand on the otherâs chest.
There is not a single moment where Steveâs face turns unpleasant. Heâs smiling widely and facing her dead on. The more he sees her, the more he understand. Amelia, on the other hand, is staring up at her with the ugliest little glare. She canât help it. Sheâs only a third grader. She crosses her arm over her chest and lets out a loud sort of huff.
Steve extends his hand for the woman to shake, trying to prove to his daughter there is no need to be so territorial. He didnât own Barnes. He was his own man. Besides, heâd know those eyes anywhere. Heâs been staring at them all day and itâs a bit funny to see them on a different person.
âHi, Iâm Steven. You must be⌠a sister? Iâm just guessing. You look so much a like. Both very attractive people. Definitely winning the genetic lottery.â His smile is so wide and genuine. Ameliaâs death stare doesnât waver.
⎠ready to comply ⯠    âBecca?â His sisterâs name leaves his lips in surprise before a small frown of disapproval follows. âAre you tailing me?â He accused, but he returns the loving gesture anyway, kissing her cheek in turn. He doesnât notice the huffing Amelia right away, too absorbed with the fact that his sister was crashing their date.
When Steve doesnât seem at all fazed by her intrusion, Rebecca gives a clear pout. One she most likely learned from none other than Bucky himself. âWell, youâre no fun, Steven. Anâ here I was, thinkinâ youâd get all jealous like your little angel over there,â she all but crooned before she wagged her fingers at Amelia with one hand and taking Steveâs with the other. Walking over, she crouched to her level before offering the girl a hand. âMy name is Becca. Whatâs yours? âm Bucky-Bearâs favorite younger sister,â she interjected, grinning from ear to ear when Bucky groaned loudly at the stupid nickname they gave him when they were young.
Feeling absolutely mortified that his sister was here, he cast a panicked glance to Steve, mouthing an apology. Stepping forward, James herded his sister away from his date and his daughter. âBecca Barnes, I cannot believe you!â They start arguing, shouting back and forward one another, but it was nothing serious. It was normal for them. There is clear adoration in both their eyes, and Becca is beating playfully at Jamesâ back after he says something that upsets her.
When they return, theyâre both panting, and Bucky has an arm slung around his sisterâs shoulder. âBecause my sister is so generous, lunch is on her, right?â
        âHey, I did-------â
âMake it on me.â Before Rebecca could fully protest, another face appears at the Baresâ side. James immediately frowns and walks to Steve, creating distance between him and who is soon revealed as Rebeccaâs boyfriend as they exchange a quick peck on each otherâs lips.
âItâs fine, Mark, really. I was actually joking Iâd rather spend the day with Steve and Amelia if you two donât mind.â Thereâs slight tension as Mark and James stare each other down, neither of them seeming to falter until the other male scoffs and shrugs his shoulders.
Becca seems confused and concerned at the same time, looking between her brother and her boyfriend before she laughs quietly. âIt was really nice meeting you, Steven. Maybe next time I can share all of Bucky-Bearâs embarrassing stories,â she interjected before things could possibly escalate.Â
