Part 2: 74 from Itoki Hana and Toby Fox - subtitle lyrics
He was shackled before getting out of the shipwreck.
Paraded around the military facility.
For all Cybertronians and humans to watch him.
“If you try to harm anyone, the stasis shackles will activate, and as a precaution, they will send a shock strong enough to impose a stasis lock on your frame if you come within arms’ reach of any human. Do you understand our safety protocols, Sunder?” Optimus told.
"That's very cruel. After I’ve sincerely poured out about my response and yearning to connect with a human and promised not to harm anyone, there is still doubt, Great Prime." Sunder replied, chuckling at Optimus. Of course, the Prime and all other Cybertronians will be suspicious of him. All their EM fields focused on hating him. Hypocrites! They are unable to recognize that they, too, have committed as many acts of violence, betrayal, and treachery as anyone else during that millennia-long war. Sinners, every single one of them are nothing but sinners. What makes them more deserving of a new life, being granted conjuxes, and acting like nothing occurred? However, he’ll have to yield at them. Do anything necessary to obtain his desired outcome.
"Froid would be so sweet to explain to you, I'm incapable of judging someone's sinful life if I can't directly see the sinners directly,” he admitted. Gambling on himself at letting the Great Prime know the extent of his abilities. An admission that had piqued his so-called Doctor’s curiosity. Turning him into a test subject, rather than a patient drowned in grief. Still, if he behaves submissive and defenseless, he may be granted a human conjunx faster.
His escorts kept silent as they guided him around the facility. Sunder paid little notice to the Cybertronians' fields surrounding him. Their reactions were as awful as he had anticipated. All of them, in remarkable accord, expressed their rancid fear, disgust, wariness, terror and panic. Humans, on the other servos, experienced a wide range of emotions. A strange cacophony that allowed his glossa to taste an extensive spectrum of tones linked to their feelings. Ranging from bitter and corrosive to mild, sensitive, soft, alkaline, and toxic. It was fascinating! These organics lend their emotions to the open for anyone to view. Truly impressive and risky. A beautiful turmoil of raw and visceral reactions from every single direction. They felt uncertain and revolted by his appearance, and yet fascinated and curious.
*So tempting to look through their minds, memories, and emotions. To savor, to search. To find you*
Would he be able to tap into so many minds? Would he get lost in so numerous thoughts of anguish and awe? Or would he break the little ones’ psyches in the process?
Should it be worth betraying his promise?
He could launch himself to bite off the necks some of his escorts. Sink his denta at their neural cord and drink out some energon to gain strength. Feed upon their memories before going to the next one. Get stronger, unstoppable. All for you.
*To properly search for you*
But what if you see? What will you think of him? You will witness the Ripper everybot else views. He won’t attempt it. Everything must be perfect for you and him to meet. He needs to be patient.
*You are somewhere on this planet. I’ll wait for you*
Focusing on that thought, the route to his ‘new home’ ended. A building far from anything else but a dense forest. An old bunker, with a long descent to a single wide room, as the Prime indicated to him. They repurposed it to contain him: thick walls that echoed emptiness, with only a chain knob on the floor where he was kept. He was unable to detect any human or Cybertronian until they passed through the door.
*So sad. It is being at Froid’s ship all over again*
He kneeled and let them chain him to the floor. He entered recharge mode, not wanting to listen again to the Autobots' security guidelines.
But in his dreams, desperation consumed him.
*I'll need to be patient. For you, everything will be worth it*
Medbots came to examine him. Tapping on the fields, he counted five of them. Other Bots were there, blasters and cannons charged, ready to subdue him in case he tried to attack.
“All security precautions have been taken and double-checked, Ratchet,” one of the youngest remarked. “Sunder, we’ll remove your shackles,” he stated firmly. “You are surrounded by our best shooters, and they’ll fire you if you even move to harm any of us.” Despite his efforts, his wavering voice conveyed his fear.
“I know; I detected all fifteen Autobots and Decepticons waiting to blast my spark away,” Sunder responded to the young Medbot. “Hello, Little Prime,” he welcomed Rodimus from the crowd, fuming at hearing that title coming from the Ripper.
With the shackles removed, all the Bots' attention and blasters were focused on him. The Med team leader approached him after scrutinizing Sunders’ unmoving frame.
“We’ll have to remove your mnemosurgeon needles, Sunder. You do understand why?”
“How polite of you to ask, Old Medic. Proceed, I won’t bite,” he assured, throwing a smile to Ratchet. “My greatest discomfort would be hurting my future conjunx, after all.”
The Med team's disgusted reaction made him laugh a little. “They are very delicate and easily spooked. I won't risk losing their trust when they choose me,” he spoke, fixing his empty gaze on Ratchet.
“What makes you think any of them is willing to choose someone like you?” Ratchet asked him, beginning to open Sunder’s servo plate to get into his needles. They were longer than any other mnemosurgeon he’d ever seen.
The low cackle of the Ripper distracted him for a klik. “What?”
“If even you were able to call me someone instead of a thing, then I’ll have faith in my humans’ choice.”
The surgery proceeded. All Bots in silence, alert for any sudden movement.
Losing so much to obtain his wish.
*But it's all worth it. These trials, this pain—I'll give more than myself for you*
Starving, he was starving.
No energon since he came to this cell.
No human had claimed him.
Had both factions decided it was best to let him die here? Maybe. They are all scared of what he could do.
*For them, you may not even exist…HEATHENS…YOU DO EXIST… YOU MUST… PLEASE…*
He detected several presences entering his cell.
The Great Prime, The Fearsome Warlord, a small Bot, and a medic. The latter was a part of a combiner group, as his field hid his discomfort of being away from his brethren. But who was the smaller Bot? He felt familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
“We brought you fuel, Tetrahex Ripper,” Megatron pointed out. “A Fool’s Energon cocktail to ensure you’ll keep yielding.” His solemn demeanor and nearly neutral field attempted to cover something else. Deep down, there was apprehension towards him.
Sunders’ maniacal laughter raised the group's wariness. “YOU. Haha,” he smiled. “You, out of all, are afraid of me, Warlord.”
The sound of Megatron’s fusion cannon didn’t erase his mocking smile.
Sunder sensed it, almost tasted it—an awful amalgamation of anger, terror, distrust, and pain, born from horrifying memories. How tempting it would be to look at those memories and make him twirl at the re-embrace of an era where he wasn’t in control. What an interesting discovery, but useless during these circumstances.
“Worry not, Fearsome Warlord,” he said, slowly facing the floor. “I am blind, chained up, and starving. I don’t have my needles either. I am completely defenseless.”
Submissive, he must stay submissive.
They’re still his keepers.
*MY OBSTACLES TOWARDS YOU*
Optimus stepped in front of the fusion cannon to protect him. How noble of the Great Prime. At least, that’s what Sunder wanted to believe—that he was defending him—but the leader had most likely done so to avoid more conflicts.
The small Bot approached him. “Hello, Sunder, I am here as your psychotherapist. If it’s not too much to ask, I have some questions for you.” Did he say his name?
“Energon first,” Sunder replied.
The Prime gave him the so-called Fool’s Energon. Its placebo are effects already well known by him as a mnemosurgeon. But he'll humor them if they want to believe in its impact. Its flavor, however, was difficult to swallow.
Finished, Sunder asked, “And what would a fellow doctor wish to know from me?” Swallowing the remaining of the Fool’s Energon in his glossa. It tasted as disgusting as the guilt, treachery, and betrayal from the memories of sinners he’d silenced. “What else, other than my yearning for a significant bond with a human? One that I’ll firmly vow not to hurt. As I swore to the Great Prime.”
Sunder maintained his opticless face to the floor, not wanting to provoke his juries more.
“What is it you wish from this human, Sunder?” the Bot asked.
“Love, dear doctor,” he responded, almost purring at the answer, thinking of soft, delicate human servos—no hands—caressing his helm and jagged chevrons.
“That’s a lot to ask from anyone, no matter how badly you want it, Sunder. What makes you think they will fulfill your expectations?” the doctor questioned.
*Wanting to implant doubts? *
“I trust them,” he replied, venting heavily. He needed to stay calm. They wanted him to succumb to their own vision of him. The Tetrahex Ripper is the only thing they know him for.
“You don’t know them yet, Sunder. Humans are as complicated as Cybertronians about making significant connections with others.” Sunder interrupted him.
“Doctor, we are both social species; we want to feel a part of a group and recognize our own value through each other,” Sunder elaborated on his answer. “I hope for just one of them—just one single human—to see me. Why is that so difficult to believe?” But he knew the doctor wasn't satisfied with it, and the other Bots judged every single one of his words.
He analyzed all their doubtful emotions. Even the Primes' feelings were noticeable.
“And now you’ll question me if this little human would be able to look over my murderous nature. If they’ll be willing to see me as worthy to belong to them.”
Sunders’ irritation was evident in his tense posture.
*None of them understood. You will care for me… right?*
“Do you feel… unworthy?” The doctor started again, “Sund…”
“¡SILENCE!” he snapped. “You all want me to rust here, in my own desperation. !SINNERS!” He shouted. Prompting the other Bots to point their weapons at him. "Everything you see is a lost cause. You have me here, humiliated and stripped of everything. But you still believe I'm a threat, THAT I WILL HURT THEM,” he vented rapidly, loudly and fuming. “But they won't see a monster," he exclaimed, grinding his denta. "And… I… will… never… hurt… MY… ANGEL," he declared, lifting his face furiously, hoping they would believe him.
*Just one. Just one opportunity. To find you, to feel you. TO FEEL TRUE LOVE.*
The psychotherapist stood solid and calm at his display. “Please leave us alone for the rest of his session. I’ll be sure to call if something happens,” he told the group.
They considered his request.
“Please be careful…” said Optimus as he prompted the others to go out. Did he call the doctor's name?
The two of them were left in the cell.
“You don’t trust my words, doctor. No one does,” Sunder growled, resisting screaming at the doctor. The long silence made him fume. Keeping submissive is more difficult than he thought. “You and everybot want to kill me, slowly and painfully,” he muttered between laughter.
It was no use; they wanted to retaliate for everything he’d done. What a cruel destiny, to be seen as the only Cybertronian unworthy of happiness.
“Why not end it all here, doctor?”
He unlocked his spark chamber. A single blast at his spark. That would be the end of everything.
“Why keep fooling me about letting me be found by my Angel if I’m not trustworthy?” All desperation let loose. Why keep pleading if they won’t give him a chance? “Please kill me if there is no hope for me to be with them.”
Although the doctor's field seemed tranquil, he had a sense of concern. Was that empathy he was feeling for Sunder?
Another long pause. The doctor let out a heavy vent, meditating on how to answer.
“I used to think our war would never end, Sunder,” the doctor confessed. “Not until we consumed the entire galaxy and reduced it to a lifeless husk.” He didn't hide the sadness of his tone and field.
“But here we are,” he continued, uplifted. Sunder still left his spark chamber open.
He could perceive the doctor’s smile on his faceplate. “We made a ceasefire on an organic planet of all places.” The doctors’ happiness increased with every word. “We are engaging with these humans in a way we never expected to happen.” The doctor approached him. Kneeling carefully in front of Sunder. “They are substantially younger than any other species we've encountered.” He softly places his servos on either side of his spark chamber. The sensation of his touch was relaxing. “But they’re accomplishing much more than any Cybertronian ever expected to see from an organic species. Seeing us as potential allies and conjunx. Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge some don’t see us that way. Yet those who do believe in meaningful connections are doing it for what’s best for the future—for us and for themselves.”
He progressively closed his spark chamber, easing the physicians' concerns.
There was so much hope in the doctor’s explanation. Such soothing and encouraging words. It was a miracle that the war ended, that Cybertronians and organics coexisted in peace, and that love could spark between them. How impossible could it be that the Ripper, no Sunder, got to be seen and cared for? To cease being alone. Part of him was starting to pray at Primus for that miracle to happen.
“Their love is quite chaotic,” Sunder said, finally at ease.
“Yes,” the doctor chuckled. “We shouldn’t betray their blind willingness to form significant connections with us.”
*Too naïve. Too precious. I want to become perfect for*
The doctor asked about the stories that inspired him to come to Earth.
Sunder shared several of his favorites, all about interspecies love. He told him the possible reasons for humans to invent these surreal stories: a way of exploring feelings about things they had a hard time grasping—about themselves and others. Things they were terrified of, but wanted to give an opportunity to comprehend. All while discovering their boundaries without fear of being hurt.
*Would you give me that opportunity? Would you have faith that I won't hurt you?*
The doctor listened, unlike Froid. ‘Nonsense,’ he used to tell him repeatedly.
It was reassuring to speak about something else that wasn't about the Ripper.
Sunder was left alone, waiting for his miracle to get to him.
*HUMANS. FINALLY, THEY CAME. YOU CAME.*
Sunder felt a group of ten? Twenty?
Between his excitement and their cumulative thoughts. Picking them apart was impossible as they swiped open the door. They acted like a hive of thoughts and sentiments. The chaos was so intriguing, the taste so confusing to his senses. It all made it hard to tell which was his Angel.
*You'll have to stand out from the crowd. I'm sorry; you'll have to approach first*
Three Cybertronians accompanied the humans. The Little Prime, another of the Bots who accompanied him at the shipwreck and a veteran.
“Ok, kids, here it is. Rods, keep your optics on the humans. Getaway, yours in any of this screw-up movement,” the veteran commanded.
The harshness in his voice made the little visitors start to panic.
*No, NO. Don't be afraid. Don't go away. Are you there?*
He kept his face down, not wanting to scare them more.
None of the humans approached him. All were petrified. Of his looks? Of what he is? It didn’t matter. None step close to him.
*Would you doubt approaching me?*
“C… can we go, sir?” one of them fearfully asked.
“Of course,” Rodimus replied softly.
The humans' fear subsided at the response.
They no longer had to stay near him.
“Let's go, Kup, Getaway,” the little Prime ordered. He didn’t take his look away from Sunder until every human exited.
They didn’t stay for even 15 kilks.
All their fields dissipated in the distance.
No one else came for the rest of the cycle.
*It's fine. This was just the first group. More will come. You will come*
Bots arrived to give him fuel. No, the Fool's Energon cocktail.
The one in charge of delivering it directly was trembling as he approached him. “D... don’t try to do something, ok. W… we have you surrounded.” Liar, they weren’t accompanied by shooters.
Sunder laughed at his attempt to look brave in front of his comrades. Spooked, the Bot slipped and fell on his aft.
One of the others quickly caught the fuel barrel before it spilled its contents.
“Barricade, you stupid rust worm! Do you want us to get into trouble?!”
Cassette frames, two of them. “We should have asked The Boss to come. Not this scary glitch mouse.”
“Of course, tell him to leave his squishy conjunx for more than one klik. I'll make sure to find your beaten aft in the dumpster.” Both cassettes started to argue with each other.
He ignored their pointless discussion. It ached his processors, reminding him of old times with his dear brother. When they used to quarrel about trivial stuffs like who got the last energon goodie. Those days were long gone. Now polluted with tragedy.
The barrel was left abandoned in front of him. He didn’t reach for it, despite his hunger; its foul taste still lingered on his tongue from the last time.
*If I told you how horrible that thing tastes, would you try to ask for better fuel for him? *
He ruminated over the thought of his human trying to advocate for his well-being, to ignore the arising memories of Sceptre, when another EM field emerged in front of him, vigilant of his every move. He knew her. According to Decepticon documents his brother gave him, she was a perfect espionage resource for their cause. She was somebot to be cautious of from the days of his slaughter of sinners. Her emotions denoted protectiveness to the cassettes, as if they were her own sparklings, her so-called ‘kittens.’
“Very impressive,” he reverberated. “You have a magnificent stealth cloth, Beast.”
She replied with a rumbling roar. “Watch your speech, Vessel of Mortilus.”
“As you say, Foster Carrier of the abandoned ones.” She safeguarded her cassettes, imposing her felid frame between Sunder and her two little ones. How enviable to still have a family to protect and return to after that war.
“If you ever want to gain a human, you must start talking less of a…”
“Scrapplet, killer, Unicron spawn? Pick any nickname; I’ve been called all of those and worse,” Sunder interrupted her. “Worry not, Foster Carrier. I'll be sure to give my Angel all the love they deserve and more.”
“I’m confident I’ll be a good conjunx. Just as you were able to give your love to all your… kittens.” She adopted an attack posture as he faced her cassettes.
“Barricade, give this thing the fuel and let's go,” she ordered. The other Bot stood up and did as he was told. Her gaze was fixed on him all the time.
He reluctantly drank the Fool’s Energon cocktail.
*Disgusting. This fuel is disgusting*
She guided her group out before glaring at Sunder. “What do you know about loving and caring for someone, murderer?” she said, and got out.
*Nothing, according to you all. But before The Ripper—there was a family, there was love. And now, I can have it again, I just must wait. My Angel, you and I will never feel alone anymore*
Fifteen or so of them, followed by three Bots.
But this attempt to get his Angel was as fruitless as the first.
Every single human trembled in unison and didn't want to approach him.
“It’s ok, everyone, he can’t move from where he is,” one of the Bots reassured them.
He was left alone in his cell.
*It's fine. Next time you’ll be there*
He hasn't gotten any fuel since the last time. He was weak and pathetic, but his ability to detect humans' EM fields was improving. He could sense them from the elevator now. All of them were nervous to descend to his cell, but maybe his Angel was there.
*It's ok, my Angel. I'm not a threat. Please see me*
There were ten humans entering his cell, with only two Bots as bodyguards this time.
Sunder was lying on the hard floor, wanting to be perceived as defenseless as possible to them.
No Angel yet, only the humans' fear before the group left. They are abandoning him faster than before.
*I… I don’t want to lose hope in you. I know you’ll come*
That same cycle, some Bots came to give him that revolting cocktail.
His jailer must be considering leaving him starving before any human visit.
It was becoming a pattern: letting him be sickly hungry to avoid any accident.
*Whatever. This punishment is all for you. To deserve you*
With nothing else worth obtaining from the cycle, he rested. Disconnected himself to avoid overthinking. To keep away the voices.
Fewer humans than previously, and the result was the same.
“What if they just see the Ripper, doctor?” Sunder asked. “What if I’m… too tainted to them?”
He came after the humans departed. His name is still hard to remember.
It's been a long time since the doctor last came in. He explained that he was advised by another Bot that it was too dangerous for a visit. That the Ripperwas acting unstable. So, the doctor’s sessions had been told to postponed several times until now.
“They are all too afraid to come. I’ve been sensing their fields, every single one, too scared to stay for more than a breem,” Sunder said.
“Humans have a tendency to notice each other's uneasiness and wariness. It's a collective instinct that has led them to be safe. Your title, it has been circulating all around the facility for a while. And it had led to many exaggerations. We couldn’t control it spreading; therefore, any human asked to get here will be wary when approaching someone like…”
“A serial killer,” he howled. More in pain than anger this time.
“I won’t lie to you; it’ll take time for any human to open up to you. But it won’t be impossible for one to do so,” he tried to uplift him. “I firmly believe there is someone for anybody in this universe.”
*Hope—I don’t want to lose that. You are my last hope.*
They are just coming to refuel him at this point.
When was the last time a human group visited him?
Did the other Cybertronians stop caring to get him a conjunx?
-Or MoRE LiKelY, hUMaNS DoN'T WaNt tO gET NEar YOu. YoU WiLL HuRT THEm, LiKE aLL YouR VicTIMS.-

*My Angel, could you please save me?*
*How much hope should I have at this moment?*
He spasms, falling to the floor with all his weight. Too numb to feel the hit.
*Everything is in shadows now*
None of his senses were working properly now.
*Why haven't they killed me yet?*
Giving up, to be found dead.
The bells are getting louder.
*I’m the Tetrahex Ripper. Too far gone into the path of Mortilus to be reasoned with. Too dangerous to be left alive*
The voices had finally invaded every module of his mind. They’ve won.
There has been no rest, no hope, nothing to be expected.
*If there is no one out there? If you won't, come. Why keep me alive?*
-YOu mOst ShUt-Down yOuR SPAaaRrr…-
(jingle, jingle, jingle) “S…S…Sir?”
Hope should have abandoned him long ago.
“Someone!” (jingle, jingle), “PLEASE, HELP.”
Are his audials fooling him? Is someone there? Why?
He came online, feeling the presence of a group of Bots surrounding and discussing about him.
“He almost entered stasis mode. Don't know why?”
“He was supposed to be refueled five cycles ago. What happened?”
“He didn’t take the fuel last time.”
“Then bring some energon!”
One of the Bots went to fetch some fuel, returning not long after being asked. It smelled like regular energon.
Sunder drank it out of instinct. A small sip helped him reactivate part of his senses.
Between the Cybertronians, there was something different. There was a distinctive EM field standing out from the crowd, one that Sunder clearly recognized, a human. They were on the other side of the wall of Bots.
Facing him, watching him. Their frightened state was the same as that of others who came to see him. He could hear the thrums of their ‘heart,’ echoing in the cell.
Even in their state of shock, they approached him. Their discomforting emotions sting him.
*You should have let me died*
But they continued walking towards him, slowly and fearfully.
“Is he fine?” they asked, never taking a step back.
That question startled him.
“Get back, little one,” one Bot warned them.
Sunder faced their small, delicate field. The human still didn’t back off from him, not even at looking at Sunders’ terrifying and void stare.
“MY ANGEL,” he cried out.
He awakened with a vigor previously absent within him. Stood up and advanced animalistically, desperately. Concentrating his senses on the little human. Feeling you. He had to get to you. Finally have you.
The other Bots tried to subdue him, with no success. Despite his weak state, he overwhelmed them.
He needed to reach you. But the shackles stopped his endeavors.
“My Angel. You came. I shouldn’t have doubted you,” he manically exclaimed. Listened to the chain knob on the floor giving up little by little.
The Bots tried again to stop him, gripping his frame and holding him back.
Denying him what he wanted.
Sunder felt your fear rise.
*Don't run. Don’t be scared.*
“It's ok, my Angel. I’ll never hurt you. I’m yours. All yours to love.” And the knob shattered. Taking away most of the Bots around him, he advanced. He’ll finally be able to feel your softness and care. You are so small, so delicate, so close to reach. Finally, he's got what he wanted…
A zap from the stasis shackles freezes him. The intensity of the electric discharge was enough to make the few Bots still holding him release his frame.
He dropped to the floor. His roars of pain were heard across the entire building.
*So close to you. I must move forward. You are waiting for me. This pain is nothing*
The shackles increased the level of discharges the more Sunder crawled to you.
Your small steps made him stop.
He feels you coming to him. Still afraid, terrified. Yet a sense of concern was inside you, for him. You were worried about him.
(jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle)
You reach your tiny hands to his helm. Did you want to calm him? Rescue him?
But no matter your sweet intentions, you got shocked at touching him. A burning flesh scent impregnated his olfactory sense.
The screams, your screams, let him wish to become deaf in that instant.
“Someone, take the human out. NOW,” he heard one Bot.
The fraction of the klik you lend your gentle hands on him, he saw the glimpse of your memories. You were part of the first group of humans to visit, and the second, and subsequent ones as well. You were always there. Scared, but little by little, you gradually became accustomed to seeing him, and the necessity of caring for him started to bloom the more you saw his deterioration.
**This is unfair,** you thought, looking at him barely clinging to some hope.
Then you started to request to your superiors, “I would like to be Sunder’s caretaker.” Repeating the same to the Autobots.
And every time they questioned your decision, your answers had become increasingly elaborated and heartfelt: “Yes, he is terrifying… And everybody else hadn't stopped telling me he is dangerous, a murderer. But haven't all the Cybertronians done horrible things, just like many other humans? He also looks hurt. I can try… be kind to him.”
“I’ll use wrist bells for him. You said he is blind, right?” you told some Autobot before entering the building holding his cell.
You choose him. You saw his appearance and accepted him. You were told about his past and didn't see a lost cause. Thought of his current state, his condition, and wanted to comfort him.
And he managed to scare you away.
*NO, NO, NO. PLEASE, NO. I DIDN’T, I DIDN’T WANT TO… I’M SORRY. DON´T GO*
The Bots took you away. Your field despaired, and the security protocol of the stasis shackles lifted.
YoU BURNED THEM. YoU BUrn AN ANGEL-
Abandoned on the floor, he slowly and awkwardly stood up.
He laughs, then cackles, then wails.
“ALL OF THIS. TO FAIL AT THE VERY END,” Sunder howled. His screams mixed with pain and sadness until only whimpers remained, and he finally grew silent.
He missed his optics to cry out.
He missed his brother for safety.
-BECAUSE YOU, WE, ARE NOT DESERVING OF ANYTHING-

Part 3 (Someday, I promise)
