Great Curassow (Crax rubra) from Central/South America! They are Galliformes (one of my favorite orders) which means they are roosting landfowl related to pheasants, turkeys, ptarmigan, etc. Males are black and females come in different color morphs (barred, rufous, and black). They have fun curly crests!

If you choose birds instead, maybe get an e-bird account, use merlin and all about birds if you're in North America like me as tools, find yourself a good bird guide and figure out local bird hotspots (even if you live in the city, you'll be surprised!)

I don't know too much about plants, I believe you can use inaturalist to record anything you find and there's tools and stuff to identify what you're not sure about

Success! 6/12 eggs hatched this time. First successful duck hatching! The 40$ difference in incubators is so worth it. I only got two chicks from 36 eggs with the last one.

One appears to be a purebred Black Swedish, from our hen and the drake we rescued. One also looks like his mother might be Big Quack since he’s literally twice the size of the other ducklings. One more I believe is the product of our Buff and Pekin? Only yellow one so far. Updates coming!
