I had to write this down because my gosh yes- Savathun brought it up before but no one really listened.
Even Caitl brings it up in some strike missions trying to entice us
How the Young Wolfâs being treated by the vanguard.
Ok so when you do the public events on the Leviathan after Teri 3 youâll get a dialogue exchange between characters. Sometimes itâs Between Crow and Spooky Uldren, Othertimes its with Eris and Crow, or even Zavala and Crow. (That one had them both telling each other to take a break lol)
But this last one I did ended with Spooky Uldren and the Guardian. Us. No one else spoke up either. So you can only assume weâre alone on this particular mission.
(Paraphrasing this because it just happened and the memory is already slipping away)
âDonât you ever get tired guardian? Arenât you tired of doing everyoneâs busywork? Arenât you afraid theyâre⊠taking advantage of you? I know I wasâŠâ
This dialogue appeared after the first mission we did with crow to sever nightmare uldren from him. So weâve already been bonded with Crow. While we can interact with other people phantoms before being bonded, itâs odd that Spooky Uldren chose this time to speak to us while weâre alone.
Reason could be; because the last time Spooky Uldren tried talking to us (during Crowâs first season mission) Crow made sure to focus the nightmareâs attention on him. And leave us alone. So we didnât get to respond at all.
Very rarely do we get asked how we feel about anything. So we really do feel like a stranger looking in. I was also thinking how, to an outsider, the way the vanguard in general uses the Young Wolf, itâd look like a well trained dog on a tight leash. âGo here, investigate this, risk your life for this.â
Lore wise it sounds like the events playing out are happening one after another with no breaks in between. Ghost, Zavala and even the Tickets from Xurâs Dares of Eternal mention us taking a vacation but deciding âdonât really need it â or âyouâd rather work instead huh?â It sounds like weâre being overworked. And while not a Vanguard guard leader, weâre doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Thing is, we donât know how the young wolf is feeling.
Itâs why I wish we had some more references to us the player in the game. Maybe even dialogue options even if they wonât change anything, just to feel like we do get a say in things.
I always read lore stuff about Ikora, Zavala, Eris, and others but I barely ever noticed the times when those Lore tabs mention us and them. Rarely do the characters even mention us. Although there could be more than what I remember, (I have a terrible memory).
So I was surprised when I heard Eris and Ikora see us as genuine friends and not just some coworker. When we wielded the darkness, Ikora felt betrayed by us (I think it talks about that in some of Ikoraâs Hidden messages referring to VIP #2014.) I expected her to be mad or disappointed in a guardian using the darkness. Not feeling betrayed by Us the Player.
I know seasons arenât DLCs, itâs also a âfreeâ game and hiring voice actors for multiple different events is expensive. Not to mention pacing and dialogue padding needs to be considered. If we spoke up thereâd be less time for other characters to speak up and progress the story.
But thereâs a reason this game feels âlonelyâ especially to solo players.
I know itâs not an rpg but man I sure wish it was sometimes.
