hi besties! i'm meredith, i use they/she pronouns and i'm in the eastern tz! and i will be playing our resident 'casual' inspired muse, birdie :) you can find her app and a bunch more details belowwww
basic background & info!
youngest of 4 kids and her parents and siblings are all entirely uninvolved and uninterested in the arts, very much a “being gay is fine but being a singer is where we draw the line” type vibe, they wanted her to have a successful stable job
homeschooled, originally sheltered to the extreme, one of those kids who wasn't allowed to watch spongebob or drink soda and then went kinda crazy when they got independence. newfound love of partying. if she’d ever tried shrooms, and she wants to, she’d tell you they were “life changing”.
has never had a long term relationship and is too much of a lovergirl for hookups, but is a serial month long love affair monogamist.
dropped out of college and moved to LA to work on her grind, communication with her family since has been very tense and limited since, with varying degrees of contact.
takes herself incredibly seriously, a bit of a tortured soul. definitely was writing sad poetry from at least age 9. some bad mental health history as a teen, worried with her separation from her family and all the new stresses of honeydew.
hasn't seen like any movies, had one of her sisters teach her how to burn CDs in high school so she could listen to the not clean versions of her favorite songs. she still loves to carry around her CD player instead of playing music on her phone, both for nostalgia reasons and because she thinks it makes her look cool and esoteric
took vocal and dance classes, attended open mics like 6 nights a week and performed in the ensemble of a few local musical productions while working various waitress and retail jobs to hone her skills further, has never published or sang her own songs publicly
landed the role in honeydew and has been coasting on that high ever since.
music & personality!
authentically quirky in basically every way, unforch. i wish it was performance. who says she can't wear her converse with her dress? generally has whimsical fashion sense, lots of practical pieces along with fluffy tulle skirts and bangle bracelets and bows and mixing patterns and colors. think combat boots with a betsy johnson dress and clay earrings from etsy made by someone’s toddler.
a dreamer, a wisher and lover of whimsy! puts stickers on anything, carries around a camera to take polaroids of people, insists on pinky promises, going crazy for birthdays, wishes on eyelashes and the power of manifestation and positive thinking. total astrology girlie.
despite her pretentions and insistences fame is nothing to loathe or strive for, two things are true 1) she's got a big heart, trusts and loves indiscriminately and 2) she loves finally feeling successful so much she'd do anything to keep it going
has one of those complexes where she's both self loathing and thinks she's a better writer than anyone else, and struggles a lot internally with the mixed reception to honeydew.
wants to make very earnest, honest, folk-y singer songwriter solo stuff focused on emotions, lyricism and/or vocal performance. think to the past with tracy chapman or stevie nicks and the present with jensen mcrae or gigi perez. plays the guitar and proud of it.
loves oldies music, especially 70s rock and 90s rnb, the latter of which is the direction she's trying VERY hard to pull honeydew while working on her solo stuff in private. hoping it'll help with her dissatisfaction.
buuuuttttt she’s still constantly internally wallowing in misery about how she wishes honeydew sounded more like TLC if she HAS to be in a group.
introverted, but very sweet. thinks before speaking but still tends to ramble. observes from the shadows. definitely the type of person you can walk over to keep the peace. but how bad will she snap if she hits her breaking point?
ultimately just feels very alone and misunderstood in the great big world and is desperate for connection: romantic, platonic, professional, or through her music.
media interview
tell us about yourself! where are you from and what has your life been like before now?
“if you want to just imagine the most boring upbringing you can, that was probably mine.” it’s short, and without the usual charm she tries to anxiously inject into every answer, in hopes of it being noticed, thought of as authentic, as she rolls over each smile and nod in her head like she needs to wear it down. family is something she tries to walk far, far away from, even when the realest answers might be the most interesting ones. she keeps it light: “i was homeschooled, so you can just imagine, like, little me sitting at home reading in the suburbs of pittsburgh, pennsylvania. it’s sad. someone else is going to have to answer if the stereotypes about us all being weird is true or not.” her smile is back, more natural, the idea of gracefulness and a well-timed giggle. not everything is an investigation into your psyche, birdie.
what inspired you to become a musician?
“i’m gonna sound like, either totally weird in a spiritual, essence-y way here, or sound like i’m blowing smoke up myself, but i have to say what i feel. i don’t even think i was ever inspired to become a musician, i think i was born one. i’ve always heard music everywhere i go, in everything i do. i would listen to the trash being collected and the wind blowing and the birds chirping when i woke up too early in the morning and i’d be like ‘this is a song’. i don’t think i’ve gone somewhere without headphones on me since i was six. with honeydew, i think for me, i just love getting to be a part of how much the idea of the girl group has changed and grown, from the supremes to the spice girls and so many more. being able to live this experience next to true friends i respect as people and as artists, and to pull such inspiration from groups that have sort of formed the perception of women in music is really powerful to me. and i want to show people that the first thing they hear from us, or the most popular thing, might not be all we can do. TLC aren’t just no scrubs. the pussycat dolls aren’t just don’t cha. i mean, we got beyoncé from destiny’s child!”
what are the best and worst parts of fame?
“i think looking at something with the mindset of worst just keeps me from being grateful. i want to sort of be able to look at this new opportunity seeking out the positive in anything, because to survive in an industry like this you just have to view set-backs as re-directions, and draw-backs as the universe balancing the scales of the gift you get of getting to do this. i always wanted people to look at me and know my music. who am i to complain about early wake up times so we can get to a new city so they can hear it at a concert? or being stopped one too many times? that’s one too many people who have connected with something.” she doesn’t want to come across as too over-the-top about the positivity thing, however. “the catering on all our shoots has really sucked, though. so maybe that.” a genuine, real laugh.
