I’m kinda feeling a bit of everything these days and also nothing
A wren dances for his mate with so much joy.
what doesn’t kill me leaves a pit in my stomach that never goes away
i'm actually curious, what trinkets do you guys have on your keychains? 🗝️
reminder for mostly myself
The circle, that is, about which the geometrician reasons is the essence common to every individual circle in nature, and without which the individual circles could not exist; it is more real than the individual circle that he may draw on the blackboard for illustration. Now, the circle that the mathematician reasons about is one he never draws upon the blackboard; it cannot be drawn because it never comes into existence; it is outside time and therefore eternal. So too it never comes to be in actual physical space; and it is non-spatial in the same sense in which it is non-temporal. All the Ideas, for Plato, thus constitute a realm of absolute realities beyond time, change, and existence, and existence is merely a shadowy replica of essence.
Irrational Man - William Barrett, 1958
i noticed my horrible patterns! i think the process stops there
i have [gestures vaguely] my tendencies
i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.
this is true, but it is not bioessentialist. both cis & trans men WILL see a mouse & eat it. this is because it is in their best interest to eat mice. they benefit from eating mice. this is essential to their class position, not their biological makeup.
The anti-vax and anti-science propaganda is very real - and also, frankly I think doctors and nurses would've had an easier time getting people not to fall for it if they spent less time treating people like fucking shit
This post is about a lot of things but it is especially about racism, medical abuse, and eugenics
It is a mystification to maintain that woman becomes man’s equal through motherhood. […] There has been an enormous amount of talk about the sacred rights of women, but being a mother is not how women gained the right to vote; the unwed mother is still scorned; it is only in marriage that the mother is glorified—in other words, as long as she is subordinate to the husband.
The Second Sex - Simone de Beauvoir, 1949 (tr. Constance Borde and Sheila Malovany-Chevallier)
They would like to make us believe that their past isn’t wasted, that their memories have been condensed and gently transformed into Wisdom. Convenient past! Pocket-size past, little gilt-edged book full of fine maxims. ‘Believe me, I’m talking from experience, I’ve learnt everything I know from life.’ Are we to understand that Life has undertaken to think for them? They explain the new by the old - and the old they have explained by the older still, like those historians who describe Lenin as a Russian Robespierre and Robespierre as a French Cromwell: when all is said and done, they have never understood anything at all… behind their self-importance you can distinguish a morose laziness: they see a procession of semblances pass by, they yawn, they think there’s nothing new under the sun.
Nausea - Jean-Paul Sartre, 1938 (tr. Robert Baldick)
I’m gonna regret this…
