I guess we can consider Wei Wuxian one of the "chosen oned" because of how easy is for me draw him
⚠️ [MDZS spoilers] Jiang Cheng's clarity
JC's ending is one of my favorite scenes in the last book:
JC's decision not to call after Wei Wuxian is him seeing his shixiong clearly for the first time.
Prior to this moment, JC had raged about Wei Wuxian's supposed arrogance for not telling anyone about the golden core sacrifice. He'd said very ugly and hurtful things as a reaction, which I think was a very necessary purge of the very poisons his sword was named after (anger, ignorance, and greed). His character consistently has difficulty letting go of grudges and perceived slights; everything was a competition of honor and capability to JC, so it didn't occur to him that compassion that comes with great personal cost would come so naturally to WWX. As a result, he tries to parse the source of his hatred and anger:
Here JC is wondering out loud: Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you trust me enough to let me know? Not realizing that WWX not saying anything was also his way of protecting JC's honor.
And eventually, JC, does realize this, when he parallels luring away the Wens with WWX's sacrifice. After being so angry about WWX not saying anything, he sees that there was really no need. He understands that his long standing hatred for WWX was irrational after all, and after being horrified by his guilt and resentment, however JC chooses to treat WWX hereafter, it is now with bittersweet clarity. He finally learns to let his shixiong go.

So we all know Hua Cheng could fill thousands upon thousands of pages describing the beauty of his dianxia, how ethereal and perfect he is, and shamelessly tells it to his face, part to tease him, but more to declare his love amd admiration over and over
But Xie Lian is just as down bad, he just gets so embarrassed to say it out loud and he doesn't think he has the skill to put it in writing but he has so much to say about how attractive and perfect Hua Cheng is - and he knows Hua Cheng doesn't think that at all.
Perhaps he has a particularly bad day about his appearance once, and Xie Lian decides this can't do.
But in true Xie Lian fashion, he just. Says it. Unprompted. Out of the blue. No context.
They're cleaning around the shrine? "San Lang, you look so beautiful today, i love what you're wearing."
San Lang nearly trips on his feet and drops a bucket of water on himself on accident.
Taking a stroll through Ghost City? "The light reflects so beautifully in your eye, San Lang."
He almost stepped on a little ghost and he's pretty sure the monsters at the stall across the street are laughing at him.
Cuddling in bed? "Your touch feels so soft, San Lang."
Took all he had not to burst into butterflies.
Hua Cheng turns as red as his robes whenever this happens and becomes so flustered he can't speak - but Xie Lian makes it a point to keep randomly saying it. And doesn't let Hua Cheng off the hook if he says anything but "thank you" because he won't let San Lang sweet talk him and not acknowledge how beautiful he himself is!

Hua Cheng's new outfit approval... 1 out of 4 🦋
all of ghost city being HC's wingmen in the audio drama ;u;
i'm sure someone's already said it, but hua cheng being powerful enough to break the oldest martial god/devastation ghost's cursed shackles on xie lian is likely because not only is he also a very old devastation ghost himself, but he also ascended once, meaning he maybe has some stray heavenly powers. nevermind that he descended on his own; we never see any cursed shackles on him so that must mean he was never formally banished. could this also be why he has the ability to grant prayers, not just because people started worshipping him? (in the revised version, he comes across some children making wishes and grants them on a whim)

SHA LA LA LA LA LA MY OH MY
Brief Jiang Cheng-Lan Wanji buddy cop moment????
One of my favorite non-romance relationship in MDZS was JC and LWJ's three month investigation/battle tactics tandem when they were trying to find Wei Wuxian and also surviving/strategizing a war. Before things between them soured after WWX's "defection" and death, imagine the narrative potential of their dynamic!
I've always loved romance when it's enveloped in peripheral period and family drama, and this pair really hits that for me. They were just in their teens when they were forced to work alongside their elders during the Sunshot campaign, not to mention how anxious they were in their attempt to find WWX. How would they have spoken about WWX in his absence? How did either of their relationship affect their time together? What did they learn from each other about WWX? About each others' families or the expectations placed on their shoulders?
Also imagine LWJ trying his best to live off WWX crumbs from JC. Him thinking, okay, how do I get Jiang Wangyin to talk about Wei Ying without actually asking about Wei Ying
