One of the Department of Awesome Natural Wonders’ all-time favorite things is bioluminescence (previously featured here). For a dazzling series entitled The Weeping Stones, Japanese photographers Trevor Williams and Jonathan Galione of Tdub Photo have perfected a method of photographing bioluminescent shrimp (Vargula Hilgendorfii) native to Japanese waters.
Also known as Sea-fireflies or “umihotaru,” the shrimp only grow to a mere 3mm long and live in shallow sea water and sand, emerging at night to feed near the shore.
“In order to group such a large number of sea fireflies, or Vargula Hilgendorfii, together Williams and Galione had to collect the creatures by luring them with raw bacon into jars and repositioning their tiny bodies on the rocks. Photographing and placing the bioluminescent shrimp next to the shore ensured that the photographers did not harm them, and allowed them to quickly return the animals back to the water below.”

yknow it took a meme for me to realize every member of greenday is bisexual however, i also didnt really look at pictures of the band greenday before that and like
how was this ever a question? like no shade but this group is like if danny elfman, american flavored gerard way and the “i will find you and i will kill you” guy got blasted with an emo fruitification beam and formed a band
I’m absolutely obsessed with “American flavored Gerard Way” as though Gerard Way wasn’t quite literally born in the godforsaken state of New Jersey
HES NOT BRITISH??????
OP do you live in a bubble or something?
you wish you were me living in my beautiful bubble home with my beautiful bubble wife. you wish
listening to “boulevard of broken dreams” it’s hard for me to imagine any more likely place for him to be from than new jersey
I don’t know how to tell you this but Gerard Way did not write Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Ladies and gentlemen, some of the 100000 reasons why I will love the Lord of the Rings movies and the cast till the end of times.
One of the best things about the Avatar universe is that one of our first introductions to the rules governing the world is "It's not magic, it's water bending," and then throughout the series it's revealed that actual ass magic also exists alongside the totally not magic bending.
angry spirit shoots lasers at a house? magic. a guy disappears into a parallel plane, body and all, for a day or so? absolutely magic. the moon exists as a living being on earth and brought a baby back to life? totally fucking magic. face stealing? magic as shit. your sister makes water levitate sometimes? how dare you sokka that's not magic it's martial arts.
Honestly I don't know where I was going for this except that it's fucking hilarious that this show has two separate and distinct systems of magic, but you're only allowed to call one of them magic because the other one happens too often.
Its actually a really great bit of worldbuilding. The mundane and the mystical magics. I like it.
losing my shit because my dad was telling me that some country music artist he likes went to the hospital and got high off edibles and made an album that was so far removed from being country music that country music fans of his are having fucking fits about it online but that’s not the strange part, the strange part is that this dude sought out the guy who animated those cool 3d jojo intros from parts 1-3 and that one batman ninja movie (i think his name is junpei mizusaki) and got him to animate a full 40 minute short film set to his new weird album and it looks like fucking
this
i wasn’t expecting to love this so much?? this dude just like created a new genre i am so impressed. the first music video is out now and on god i am vibing with it so hard
its like… country cyberpunk
I have no idea whats going on but I am So Fucking Down For This.

But, like, you cannot convince me that that isn’t the Bullet Farmer and the People Eater. Hell, you can’t convince me that’s not The Interceptor. Like, the Fury Road homages are strong here and I love it.
