Hi, iām Biscuit. Just a regular Babywitch thatās not quite sure what type of witch she is. So Iām having a little blog for every topic I want to collect Information. This oneās for doing magick(spells, potions). (I am not able to write witchy stuff by myself because Iām still a Babywitch. Iām just collecting Information for me here)
In certain obscure alchemical and anti-cosmic grimoires, there is mention of a ritual not to awakenābut to plant a Black Sun within the practitioner. Unlike the radiant Solar mysteries of illumination and enlightenment, this star is inward, devouring, silent.
The Black Sun Seed is said to be:
⢠A fragment of pre-cosmic will
⢠A spiritual singularity that devours illusion and false light
⢠A āmirror starā growing not in heaven but in the soul's abyss
⢠An inner anti-sun that does not radiate but pulls all things into gnosis by negation
It is neither demonic nor divine. It is void-pointed sovereignty.
šWhy Cultivate It?
When grown over time through meditative and ritual work, the Black Sun Seed:
⢠Burns away egregores, parasites, and even archonic bindings
⢠Acts as a source of gnosis, pulling in patterns, power, and prophecy
⢠Serves as a core for apotheosis rituals or the forging of inner planes
⢠Allows entry into negative initiatory spaces where normal magical tools fail
⢠Acts as an anchor of self amidst chaos, perfect for Qliphothic journeying
The Black Star is Not the Shadow. This is crucial. The shadow is the reflection of the self. The Black Sun Seed is the generator of self through decreation. It is not Jungian. It is primordial.
šThe Silent Star Rite: Cultivating The Black Sun
Best done in silence, darkness, and on the night of an eclipse or when the Moon is void-of-course.
You Will Need:
⢠A black sphere (obsidian, shungite, or hematite)
⢠A single black candle
⢠A cup of wine or ink
⢠A black cloth to cover your eyes or wrap your head
Instructions:
Sit in complete darkness, in stillness. Place the black sphere against your solar plexus. Gaze into the flame, whisper this mantra three times:
āZimraz el Thagir; I summon not light, but the seed of unlight.
Let the Star of Devouring rest within me.ā
Close your eyes and visualize a black star unfolding inside your bodyānot hot, but dense. Silent. Pulling everything in. Offer the wine or ink as a libation to this forceānot to an entity, but to the Seed itself. Sit in stillness. Let it grow. It does not speakāit consumes noise. End the rite by wrapping the black cloth over your eyes and whispering:
āI carry the Seed. The Flame that is Not. The Sun that devours.ā
Aftereffects:
⢠You may feel disoriented or heavy for a day
⢠Expect lucid dreams, symbol distortion, and brief ego disidentification
⢠Over time, clairvoyance and energetic gravitas deepen
⢠Can cause psychic repulsion of false people or ālight-clingersā
⢠Use responsiblyāthis is deep magick, not aesthetic fluff
šAdvanced Usage
Later, you can use the Black Sun Seed as an astral forging furnace-
⢠Birth servitors in it
⢠Burn away bindings
⢠Cast spells that unravel your target from the inside out
⢠Collapse false egos, personalities, or thought-forms youāve outgrown
The seed is planted. Now letās see what devours you firstāor what you become once it does.
Sometimes, we get down on ourselves. It happens to most of us, and when it does itās nice to have a pick-me up. Self-love is one of the most important kinds of love--we need to take good care of ourselves emotionally, spiritually and physically in order to live our best lives. This little potion isnāt going to cure your self esteem or image issues overnight--or at all without work on your part. But it is a good start, and can facilitate the actions you need to reach your self love goals.
Make the making of this potion a self love ritual. Dress up in one of your favorite outfits before you make it--lingerie is nice, but so is something that just makes you feel secure and comfortable, like a good pair of sweatpants, a big fluffy robe or a big t-shirt! Hell, you can even put on a big fancy dress and do a full face of makeup if you like. Or do your skincare routine. Take a good long look in the mirror and pick out something you like about yourself. Write it down somewhere you can look at it before bed. Then, go and gather the following ingredients:
Self Love Potion Ingredients
Water (moon water would be a good addition!)
Rose bud tea (beauty, love)
Strawberries (love, happiness)
Apples (beauty, love)
Peaches (youth, happiness)
Basil or Mint (healing, banishes negativity)
Honey or Agave
Making Your Self Love Potion
Heat your water. Finely chop your strawberries, apples and peaches. Allow it to boil until the fruit is soft and has infused its essence into the water. Add the rose bud tea, and mint. Remove from heat and allow everything to steep for a while. Strain the fruit, flowers and herbs from the tea and pour it into your favorite cup. Sweeten to taste if needed (you added a lot of fruit, so it might be sweet enough!). Allow your self love potion to cool. You can even serve it over ice if you like.
Find somewhere comfy to sit and drink this--preferably before your potion is ready, or at least done cooling. Light a few candles--pink and white are good color choices, in whatever scent you find comforting that makes you feel luxurious. Open a few windows if youāre able. Take your potion, sit and close your eyes. Focus on those things you like about yourself, what you envisioned what you looked in the mirror. Envision your goals and your ideal self--but be realistic about it, and be kind to yourself. Drink, and continue to envision these things as you do. Continue doing so until your drink is finished. Relax as long as you want to, and take it easy on yourself. Doing this before bed is ideal, so you can go lounge in bed right afterwards.
Be kind and gentle to yourselves. Remember that where you are now on your journey is still progress, and one day soon youāll be where you want to be.
(I'm cleaning up my blog and reposting some of my spells/etc that were once hosted on my website. Here's the first!š)
Witchcraft is actually hella customizable. You can invent shit. I don't know how this: "By the book, uber traditional, heavily controlled" thing gained so much traction, but...
You can make your own holidays
You can make your own Gods
You can design your own divination methods
You can make sigils -however the fuck you want
You can create your own theory on energy systems based on your personal experience
Write your own ethics and codes of conduct
Describe crystals or herbs by their ENERGY instead of a keyword list you got off Pinterest
Cleanse in a completely different way than the books tell you to
Literally the possibilities are unfathomably endless. And I've successfully done all of these. Go forth and get weird with it.
A few things that I do when Iām at my lowest. Made specifically for disabled people, but anyone can do these! See this post for low energy witchcraft ideas not directly related to disabilities.
Enchant your blanket for a good nightās rest
Enchant your coffee/juice/water/NyQuil/whatever youāre drinking to aid in recovery
Enchant food to aid in recovery
Place sigils around to aid in recovery, memory, etc.
Keep relaxing herbs/stones/etc. around
Cast a sleep aid spell (I have a bag with lavender and amethyst hanging on a bedpost)
Cast a recovery spell (I have another bag with a variety of protection and rest herbs and crystals)
Enchant fidgets or objects used to stim to calm you and to never break
Use energy magic instead of physical spells.
Use art/writing/etc. magic! Draw sigils, deities, write spells, recipes, shopping lists, etc.
Stir and infuse good energy/banishing into teas or coffees.
Keep some supplies nearby (i.e. tea lights, a lighter, grimoire, oils, etc.).
Use showers, washing of face/hands, etc. for cleansing.
Brush out the bad energy when brushing your hair.
Ward health aids or mobility aids against breaking and bless them to work quickly and well.
Use apps or websites for sigils, spells, etc. (VirtualCandleSpell for digital candle spells, Craiyon for sigils).
Keep room sprays near you and bless them to serve a certain purpose.
Make emoji/song spells! Use corresponding emojis and charge them with intent. Use corresponding songs, put them on a playlist, charge them, and listen to it whenever you want to cast it.
Use makeup/skincare as glamours.
Use sunscreen as protection!
Use wax warmers and melts instead of candles.
Use oils in diffusers instead of candles or incense.
Iām going to list some equipment, define what it is, and give its general purpose.
Now, firstly, you donāt need any of this stuff to do magick.Ā The tools and gestures and everything traditionally associated with magick are merely to help focus your mind, but your mind is all you really need.Ā Thatās not to say you canāt/shouldnāt use them, just that you donāt have to if you donāt want to.
When first trying to sense energy, it's suggested you try on crystals and objects first.
The first step to learning to sense crystal energy is to discover which is your sending hand and which is your receiving. Although some ambidextrous people can sense energy equally in both hands, most people find they have one hand in which they feel energy more strongly. Typically, your receiving hand is your nondominant hand and it draws in universal energy. Your sending hand is your dominant hand (the hand with which you write) and moves energy out of the body and back out to the universe after the receiving hand has drawn it in. The process of sending and receiving energy is constant, but you can also consciously direct the energy flow, during healing and meditation, for example.
SENSING YOUR OWN ENERGY FIELD:
A simple way to become familiar with energy is to learn to sense your own. Start by rubbing the palms of your hands together to activate the tiny energy centers located here. Then draw your hands apart and slowly move them together, palms facing one another until you feel the quality of the energy shift or change. Continue moving your hands together and apart to become familiar with the feeling of your energy.
Don't get caught up on if you can or cannot feel it right away. Use visualization if it helps you. You aren't imagining it and you're doing great. Take a minute to just play with the energy. Make it grow larger, make it tiny. Envision it turning into different elements, different shapes, moving around away from your hands using your will and intent to guide it. Play with it, see or sense it in your mind's eye, and roll with it. It may seem silly at first, but I promise it works.
For some, sensing energy is difficult, it may come more naturally to others but don't get discouraged. Keep practicing.
SENSING DEITY AND SPIRIT ENERGY:
One great way to get a feel for the energy of your spirits or deities is going to be to have them come to you and put their energy on your back or hands or whatever you feel is right for you. What does the energy feel like? Do you get any images from it? What color do they feel like? Hot or cold? What makes their energy different from others?
In my practice, Bast feels like red velvet. Hades feels cold but fatherly. Rhiannon feels like the color yellow and pale flowers, Medusa feels like staring up at the sun through a lemon tree. See how the energy of the deities feels to you. It may be different for everyone.
Using songs as spells. (Singing it for extra charge)
Intention behind simple tasks (chapstick blessing to keep the lips soft and the words persuasive, lotion to keep the skin smooth and repel buggies etc)
Booping a child's nose and using that intention to dispel fear and/or bless the child in question. (Now a favorite past time for my itty bitty nephew.)
Blasting music to break up icky vibes throughout the house
Diffuser or incense certain scents work as offerings, cleansing, or just good way to bring luck into the home.
It's so easy and I'm so goofy for not thinking about it before.
You want some runes to stick in random places? Want some stuck to your headboard? Luckily, you're not going to have to break out the paint or sharpies, because you can just make stickers. It's simple.
What you'll need:
Parchment paper (the kitchen use kind)
Packing tape
Your drawn runes on printer paper, cut out
Scissors
What you'll do:
Lay down your parchment paper flat. You may have to use a little tape to keep it from curling up.
Stick down a layer of packing tape onto the paper.
Place your runes on the tape.
Cover with more tape.
Cut out your shapes, and boom baby! You got yourself some stickers!
You could do all kinds of things with this, too! Dried herb leaves? You betcha. Sigils? Sure thing. Embarrassing memories you'd rather forget? Eh, probably not.
As always, be safe, do your research, and blessed be!

Mirror magic can be a great way to see yourself better, to give yourself healing energy and love, for scrying, and can even be used to see yourself in a past life. Reflective surfaces have been used for millennia for magic of all purposes, including scrying and seeing the truth of a situation. They were thought by some to be portals, similar to Alice in Through the Looking Glass.
What do you do when you look in the mirror? Do you check your teeth to see if you have food stuck in them? Do you obsess over tiny imperfections, such as blemishes that no one else sees but you? Whatever we do when we first look in the mirror is whatās known as automatic programming. Usually, itās a fear-based action to protect us from looking bad to others. In this section, weāll make a conscious change from fear-based actions to practice mirror magic, the essence of which is love-based.
Your reflection is a product of the light (or absence thereof); the warmth or color of the light; the angle you tilt your head; the quality of the mirror; and the emotion you hold. Mirrors reflect our energy back to us. If we can connect with that energy, we can raise it to create magic.
Give Yourself Energy
Gaze at your reflection and enter a trance state. Breathe in love for yourself. As you exhale, give your reflection love. Receive the love from your reflection with every inhale. Feel the energy grow between yourself and your reflection, and let the exchange intensify.
Self-Love
Self-love is some of the most powerful magics there is. This practice isnāt unruly or narcissistic, but rather, a warm supporting love that calms the mind.
Look in the mirror. Stop any automatic programming that may arise and stare softly at your face. Notice what you admire the most about yourself ā maybe you have nice cheeks or beautiful eyes. Smile gently at yourself while thinking about radical self-acceptance and love. Look beyond the surface of your skin and bring out the brilliant beauty of your soul.
Give yourself a compliment. Tell your reflection something like, āI love you. I adore you. I care about you so much. Youāre magnificent,ā or any other powerful affirmations. Accept these statements with grace and ease. Tell yourself, āthank you,ā and mean it. See if you can create an energy fountain with your love.
This kind of mirror magic can be used for healing. Itās a great way to remove energetic blocks, cultivate a love of our perfect imperfections, and to be present in the moment.
If this practice makes you feel uncomfortable, imagine that youāre saying these kind and true words to your higher self and know that they see you that way, most certainly. Or, think about it this way. If you wouldnāt let your friend talk about themselves negatively, you shouldnāt let yourself talk that way, either. This is the perfect magic to be your own friend and extend the same respect to yourself. With time, itāll become easier to accept love from yourself. Having compassion for yourself is magical, indeed.
Enchant Your Reflection (Glamor)
Mirror magic can be used to enchant our appearances. To enchant yourself, enter into a trance state. Tilt your head different ways until you see yourself in a new light. See yourself as beautiful or handsome. Turn up the charm ā put stars into your eyes until you see sparkles in your reflection. Use your will to change your appearance slightly. See yourself as any number of things ā younger, older, more desirable, etc. Like energetic cloaks, enchanting and glamor requires focus and can take energy to maintain. Itās best used for short periods of time, such as a performance or a photo shoot.
Draw Symbols and Sigils In Your Aura
One of my favorite things to do when Iām in a higher spiritual energetic state is to draw sigils in my aura. When we combine that with mirror magic, we have a powerful visualization and perfect placement of any magical symbols you want.
Stare at your reflection and bring on a trance state. Draw symbols or sigils with a finger dipped in essential oil or a lit incense stick. Go slowly, feeling the meaning of every curve and line of the symbol. With your second sight, see the sigils glowing with power. Hold the vision for as long as you can. To recharge them, send energy to them and envision them glowing again.
Past-Life Vision
Come close to the mirror. Stare into your eyes and enter a trance state. Let your eyes become a portal to another world. Allow the world dissolve around you into nothingness.
You may see yourself as eyes without a face or a body. Go deeper into the trance. See if you can see yourself with a different face, or with different clothing, or in a strange environment.
Scry
Scrying is one of the more difficult divination methods to master, but a very visual person will likely find their footing here. Enter a trance an look upon and into an object such as a black mirror, a pool of water, or a crystal ball. You may see figures and shapes, which can be interpreted as different things, and you may see a storyline play out. Keep at it. Practice, a good trance, and intuition are essential tools for this work.
Carry the Magic With You
Compacts and pocket mirrors are perfect ways to reset your energy in a relatively unnoticed way in public. Program your mirrors with one of the methods above. When youāre out and about, peek at the mirror and see yourself with the magic. All it takes is one look and youāve reactivated the magic. If you use this mirror outside your home, cleanse it every once in a while. (just make sure it's warded so you don't carry around a portable portal lol)
MIRROR WARDING
Mirror warding is usually for old mirrors with silver backing, but they can still be useful for modern mirrors and probably should still be used in modern day. Especially for mirrors facing each other, you want to ward them to ensure they don't create a portal.
To ward a mirror, First cleanse it spiritually and physically. You can then take your own spit, florida water, protection oil, moon water, or whatever else and draw a sigil or rune for protection on the mirror. You can also wash the mirror in florida water or just line the border with it. I like to place my palm in the middle of the mirror after doing this to envision my hand locking the mirror.
MIRROR SPELLS
Mirrors can also be used in spellwork to reflect what was sent to you. or as a hex you give someone. The latter takes a bit of trickery but its easy if they don't know what they're doing.
For return to sender spells using a mirror, take a piece of paper and write the name of whoever sent shit to you, or just the word "negativity" or "return to sender" and fold it away from you. Take a small mirror and prop the folded paper on the mirror face down like a little tent. Circle it with black salt and say whatever you want to it. You can even say shit like "your energy is not wanted or needed here. Take back what you have sent me immediately" and burn the paper on the mirror right there.
For the hex/trickery thing⦠This involves them doing it, so it will take a bit of finesse.
All they need is a small mirror, a black candle, and their reflection. Have them drip black wax over the mirror until they can no longer see their reflection. Tell them to take it home and put it in a window with the black wax facing out. It will basically lock their negativity and troubles in on themselves and localize it to just themself.

What is Baneful Magic?
Many people confuse the term "black magic" with baneful magic. The term "black magic" is actually a racist term and should not be used to describe baneful workings. This is also the same for the term "white magic" being used to describe healing magic.
Baneful magic is magic cast against someone or something with menacing or harmful intent. Baneful magic can be used to speed up the consequences of someone actions towards you or they can be used to block people from benefiting from their work. In my practice, I believe that if baneful work is not warranted (i.e there is no real reason for it to be done), it will not work. This means that I never cast a baneful spell unless I believe it to be truly worth the time and effort.
Baneful rituals can be very simple and low energy or they can be very intense and complex. This honestly depends on what kind of spell work you are doing and what you are doing it for. For example, a baneful ward is something that I would consider to be low energy because you set it up once and as long as it remains intact, it continues to work. However for me, a higher energy baneful spell would be a "stop gossiping" spell because the ingredients I would use are harder to find. Baneful works also depend on the amount of correlations you want to include. For example, do you want the spell to coincide with a specific day of the week, moon phase or month. Maybe you want to perform it during a specific season or ask for help from a specific entity, all these factors should be taken into account when performing these workings.
Some of my Favourite Methods:
Hex water- this is method that is commonly used by aragingwitch (on TikTok) and it is a method that I really enjoy as well. Adding names to hex water can be a really low energy way of ensuring that someone must deal with the consequences of their actions (I use this as more of a "karma" insurance but it can be used as a full on hex).
Freezer spells- some people may argue that this isnāt very baneful but it's one of my favourite and most used methods. Freezer spells can be used to essentially "freeze" peopleās influence over you or block them from being able to reach you. You can do this with items as well (when I was quitting smoking, this is how I did it). You can freeze names with regular water or you can bind them first and freeze them in hex water.
Return-to-senders- another one of my favourite spells, this spells is used to return unwanted or harmful energy back to the source that cast it (which is why people always say to tether your hexes to something other than yourself). You can also add a bit of a kickback to these spells or return them with 3 times the energy if you are feeling a little vengeful.
Mirror spells- again one that might not be considered baneful but can be adjusted. The way I use these spells is to make the recipient "look in the mirror" and take an objective look at their actions. This often involves ensuring that they can't run from their problems and must deal with the consequences of their actions. Other variations of this exist as well, you are only limited by your imagination with this one.
Sending a spirit- depending on your relationship with specific spirits, you can petition them to do the work for you. This usually works best if you already have a close working relationship with the spirit you are petitioning but you can also contact spirits you don't normally work with as well. I have seen this work using house spirits, familiars, the dead, deities and many more. It's important for me to stress that how you go about this and the results achieved will depend on the spirit you ask and your relationship with that spirit.
Baneful Work & Ethics:
Witchcraft in general does not have a standard or set guidelines for what is ethical and what is not. Many witches may come to a consensus on what they believe to be ethical based on shared morals or opinions but in reality, it's all fair game. Just because I believe or follow one thing, doesn't mean you have to or will.
It is important for you to determine your own ethical guidelines before practicing baneful magic. I say this because it is very easy, when things go wrong or you are feeling hurt, to just cast magic against whatever or whoever you want but it is not always helpful or necessary. Having guidelines and sticking to them is an important part of baneful practices (they can always change and evolve but the most important thing is that you don't compromise on them when you are emotional). Here are a few guidelines I stick to, feel free to use them if they resonate with you.
Never cast without reason- I will only spend my time and energy on things that are really important to me. If the person I am casting against is already a waste of space in my life, they will also probably be a waste of time.
Never cast emotionally- I will wait several weeks before I decide to cast against someone. If what they did is really bad enough to warrant my energy and time then it's probably something I'll still be upset about weeks or months later.
Never cast against someone you live with or cannot cut out of your life- this one is kind of self explanatory but casting against someone you live with is bad news. You will be affected by your own working and will end up having to reverse it.
Know how to reverse your workings- things can always go wrong so make sure you have a back up plan and a really good uncrossing spell on hand.
Know yourself- it's important to do some reflecting before you hex. Ask yourself how you may have contributed to the situation. Are upset or are you projecting past traumas onto someone? What would you have done if the roles were reversed? Questions like these are tough to answer but help determine if a hex is really warranted or not.
Protect then hex- if you are casting against someone who lives with children or pets, you may choose to do a protection working on them before performing your hex. The energy a hex has often affects other people around the recipient and children/animals do not deserve to be negatively affected by the actions of someone else.

š¤I have a feeling that people may have questions regarding this post so instead of commenting them, please use the questions feature on my profile so that I can actually respond :)
I believe all spells require some degree of sacrifice to be successful. It never has to be an extreme gesture, just something that shows you are invested in your craft and are willing to put effort into the spell because your intentions are important to you.
Examples of mundane scarifice:
Time: setting aside time in your day in order to plan/prep/cast your spell
Materials: I have a small amount of Saffron that I purchase once in a blue moon because of how expensive it is. I save it only for special occasions, and it tugs at my heart when I do use it because I donāt want to deplete my stash too quickly. That feeling is what makes my use of Saffron a sacrificial offering to the spell
Money: while not necessary, spending money on ingredients or tools for your spell is a very transparent sacrifice
Energy: overlapping with the concept of sacrificing your time, this can include Going on a hike to find materials, cleaning and cleansing your tools and craft-space prior, meditating to get in the right headspace, any kind of Art or Knot magick, etc. This is an especially valuable sacrifice for spoonie or disabled witches (I use disabled as a very broad term here. This can range from mental to physical, mild to severe, etc.)
Now, there is a different between sacrifice and just putting effort into something. Finding a pre-made sigil online and carving it into a candle to light requires minimal time, materials, money, and energy. Therefore, it took minimal effort, thus not making the process sacrificial. You would need to put a significant effort into at least one of the categories. Sticking with the current example: for a time sacrifice you could spend a while writing down your intention for the spell over and over again. For a material sacrifice, you could incorporate more materials like a bell or crystals or ingredients to sprinkle around the candle or just more candles. For a monetary sacrifice, put a dollar in your savings jar every time you light the candle for the spell or just go out and buy materials. For an energetic sacrifice, do any of the things mentioned in the list above.
This is not to say āno sacrifice = no successā or āmore sacrifice = more successā as a Rule. This is me simply sharing a helpful tip for you to consider
Make a poppet of yourself, put in a jar. Add dried herbs and other dry materials that correspond with your intent into the jar.
Whatever is in the jar will effect you (your poppet). Add rose petals for love, coriander seeds for healing, amethyst for psychic abilities, the options are endless.

At the beginning of every year, you should perform a ritual to cancel all past spells. Either they werenāt successful, or they werenāt meant to be, they werenāt as powerful as you had hoped, or maybe you just forgot about a few! Itās best to take all that excess energy/intention out of the universe. This spell is a great, easy way to do so. Itās also a good time to dump any spell jars or sachets you made that have already taken effect. Happy New Year!
I forgot about the love attraction spell I cast a while ago when this girl was talking to me and I added red pepper flakes to the candle I lit and I have to warn yāall about that. She then became my gf and it was a Hot Mess. If you donāt want a wild boo donāt add pepper to your love spells
If you're doing spellwork and you're falling short on what words to use, I HIGHLY recommend using lyrics from songs that resonate right into your soul and your very being.
Doesn't matter if you think it sounds cringy, use what punches you in the chest and makes you feel connected to the emotions behind your magic.
I do it. One of my most potent curses was cast using these lyrics:
Designing Spells, a how-to guide for every level of experience and discretion: Threshold Theory
Basic spell components:
All spells have a few components that are absolutely necessary for potent results. It is going to be assumed that physical and/or energetic work was done to actually prepare and cast the spell.
In order to cast a spell, one needs to be in a space of mind that facilitates the spell working. We often refer to this as āHeadspaceā, this assists one to be more focused. This can be the most difficult aspect of spellworking for some practitioners. The mind needs to be honed in on the spell, the energies, spirits, and intentions involved.
Secondly, one would need to have passion, an emotional state that is used to fuel the spell.
Lastly, one needs to have an Intention for a spell. This is the most discussed aspect of spell casting, but is also the most misunderstood. Intention is not to be confused with desire. Intent is a personal truth, something that cannot be lied to. It is possible to cast a spell without one of these three components, however the spell most likely will not be as potent as if one did. You totally can cast spells based on desire and not intent, but validating the spell may be difficult or it may have varied results.
Correspondences, Tools, & External resources:
When looking through the internet or other informational resources and/or guides on witchcraft, youāll probably notice that a few things tend to be regularly occurring:
1. That though a lot of practitioners may say that tools and correspondences arenāt necessary, a vast majority of sources and guides include and/or require correspondences and/or physical tools.
2. The correspondences used in each source are only as common as the dominant source for those correspondences within that specific tradition. For some, those sources are books, and for others they are the first result on a Google search.
When it comes to Tools used to perform magic, there are a few things that must be kept in mind. Some tools are culture/tradition specific and it would be disrespectful for you to use them, which may or may not have spiritual consequences. Many tools are used to accomplish the same ends. For example, wands and athames are used for very similar purposes, the casting and/or projection of energies within a specific space- typically when sanctifying an object or opening/closing a space for a working. If you decide to use a tool for your practice, please be sure that you understand the cultural ramifications of doing so within a spiritual space.
When it comes to Correspondences, there are a plethora of sources that may appear to have contradicting data. This is because they stem from various traditions and sources. This occurs because correspondences are 100% subjective. However, if you practice within a specific tradition or culture, then you are expected to follow the correspondences of that practice. This can be incredibly powerful because people have been building on those ideas and connections for lifetimes.
IF you arenāt a part of a preexisting tradition ask yourself what you feel you should use. Magic can be a very personal and intimate experience. Donāt be afraid to create your own correspondences. Furthermore, donāt be afraid to invent your own tools- but be sure to do so as if it were a sacred act. Magical tools arenāt something that should be thrown together thoughtlessly and then treated like pencils or hair ties, they should be created and treated as what they are: a medium for your magic. They should be planned and made with materials that you deem appropriate. The should be stored as if they were fragile or put on display on an altar. If youāre not open about your practice, this aspect may be challenging to hide.
Types of spells:
In my experience, there are seven types of spells. Please bear in mind that these are by no means finite boundaries for spellwork to exist within, just an acknowledgement of trends.
Altar Spells: Spells that require not only tools and correspondences, but also require a ritual or ceremony in order to cast it. Often, these spells utilize candles and crystals, prayers and symbology, and may even go as far to actually require an altar.
Glamours: These spells more often than not, require only symbols and energy. They are use to altar the perceptions of whatever theyāre placed on, whether targeting other or yourself.
Divination: Spells used to heighten your intuition. A lot of practitioners donāt view divinations as being spellwork, but a good diviner uses all three of the basic components of spellwork for their readings.
Psychological Spells: These are spells put on yourself to altar your own mind by manipulating your own subconscious. These spells are performed often through repetitive action and subliminal messaging through turn of phrase of symbology.
Energetic Spells: These spells require only the energies of yourself and/or beings and objects around you. Most energetic spells that are easy to find on the internet are very small spells, typically aimed at small scale manifestation. However, with enough practice and intuition, Energetic Spells can do anything that any other spell type can achieve.
Astral Spells: These are spells that require being in an Astral form or even on the Astral Plane. They are very similar to Energetic spells but they require even less. However, due to the nature of the Astral, maintaining the basic components of spellwork while in this form can be very challenging.
Spirit Spells: These are spells that either use spirits as the medium for the spell to travel through, or employ a spirit to do the spell work for you entirely. Like energetic spells, this type of spell can achieve anything that all the others can if given enough experience and practice.
Spell dictation: Whether it be for recording a spell that you have already cast or recording how to perform a spell you have only just thought of, the way you choose to record your spellwork with have a massive impact on your craft as a whole.
The importance of record keeping:
When performing spells, it is imperative to keep a record of the exact spell process and results. By doing this youāll be able to keep track of successful spells and those that arenāt. Then it becomes easy to home in on effective spell processes.keeping a record also makes it a lot easier to undo spells that take an undesired turn. I recommend having a dedicated book or Google drive folder to record your spells.
Spell Design Process:
All spells can be thought of as a combination of Thresholds, Nodes, Intent, Focus, and Passion. (And an action)
Without any of these a spell will not function as intended or would not work at all.
Nodes are things like correspondences. They are individual concepts that are connected to form a complete web, or Threshold, for the spell to travel through. Correspondences need not be only for the physical objects involved. They can be as simple as word association or a memory.
Start creating a spell:
1: Decide on a goal, what you wish the spell to accomplish. It is important that your spell takes the path of least resistance in order to have the highest chance at success
2: Create or find correspondences and concepts to create your nodes from and then find how they can be connected. This can be done mentally or by using nodes that are associated with each other.
3: Get all your tools and sympathetic representations together, if you decide to use them. If not, skip to 4.
4: Decide what is the best headspace to be in for casting the spell. It is important to record this as well.
5: Find what is the best emotion to fuel the spell and record that as well.
6: Figure out what energetic programming you wish to use and record that. Do this as best you can, I do realize that the current energetic model definitely leaves a ton to be desired.
7: If you wish to involve spirits, be sure to commune with them beforehand if necessary. And be sure to keep record of the conditions that are reached and which entities you involve.
8: Compile your spell into a single process.
9: Cast and record results.
Be sure to do as much research into your target as possible. Like if youāre casting a spell onto the brain of another person, it would be wise to know their medical history or there could be unwanted side effects.
Discrete Spells and Practices:
The best way to keep your spell work private is to forgo your physical tools and sympathetic representations. This can be achieved by relying on spirit work or energy work.
If you wish to keep the physical aspects of the craft and the way you keep records, I recommend having a small discrete bag to hold your tools and such and coming up with a transcription orthography to write with. This can be either a personal alphabet or a simple encryption like a caesar cipher. A lot of discrete practitioners cannot use candles or burn, in order to get around this you can have ashes as your fire representation and draw things you would burn in water soluble inks. You can also draw Sigils using invisible inks as well.
Networking and How to Talk About Spells:
When discussing witchcraft, it is of the utmost importance to first establish personal semantic meaning. Since witchcraft is a multicultural and multilingual phenomenon, the words used to discuss it vary wildly. This is why I take the time to define my terms.
Once the baseline of semantics has been discussed, it is safe to proceed with discussions about magic. It would be easier to start with practitioners who have a similar practice. But I recommend connecting with anyone who is willing to have fair, free and, open discussions. Remain aware of the nuances of culture as to avoid taking and using what is not meant for you.
Validating Spells:
when recording spells, be sure to note the date and time of casting and have a timeframe in which you would expect a given result. Once the timeline runs its course take any notes of what might be pertinent.
If the spell is continuous, be sure to make note of the situation beforehand so that as time passes you can make notes of relative change.
Sometimes spells donāt work and thatās okay. That just means you need to reassess the working and try again.
Troubleshooting Spells:
If a spell effects more than what was desired, you likely werenāt focused enough or your nodes werenāt connected thoroughly.
If a spell worked but wasnāt to the desired intensity, you likely didnāt fuel it with enough passion during the casting.
If a spell didnāt work at all, it could be that it didnāt take the path of least resistance or you were missing a crucial element. As an example, it is more effective to cast a spell for your employer/client to notice your hard work than it would be to cast one to get a raise.
As you adjust aspects of your working, youāll be honing it to perfection. Keep track of your changes and overall processes.
