Paralegal Studies

Paralegals, or legal assistants, help lawyers in their work. They perform some of the same tasks as lawyers. Paralegals investigate cases to make sure that lawyers know all of the important facts.

Paralegals also do legal research. They look up laws and past cases in books and on computers. Then, they write reports that lawyers use to help prepare their cases. They also keep track of the documents related to the case.

What paralegals do depends on where they work. For example, some paralegals help to write contracts and mortgages. Some help to prepare income tax returns and other financial documents.

Most paralegals work a typical 40-hour week. Most work year round, but some are only employed during busy times of the year. In law firms, some paralegals work very long hours. Most of their work is done at desks in offices and law libraries.

Life changes - I took off my hijab

After a little more than ten years of wearing the hijab,

After all of the ups and downs that came along with it

After all of the looks I did, the outfits I created for myself

Three days ago I decided to take it off

Truth is, I wanted to for years, but never had the audacity to go forward with it

While I was wearing it, I was living in this constant state of paranoia 

People staring at me because I stood out

And me not knowing what those stares and glares could lead to

Seeing what’s happening around the world to muslims 

Seeing hijabis being assaulted (weither verbally and/or physically)

Some of them even got killed

All of that left me with many sleepless nights and daily fear for my safety

While I forever will be grateful that I started wearing it so young

Wearing it at an age where my life could’ve taken a turn for the worse

I’m grateful for the hijab because it made me confident

It made me trust in the woman that I’ve become

Saying it out loud for the first time was hard

So hard, that it broke me to tears

“I don’t want to wear it anymore” 

“I don’t feel safe wearing it”

It made me think that I wasn’t a real believer

That I wasn’t a good muslimah

That all of these years wearing it were a lie

Thankfully, my mom understood me

She reassured me, she supported me

She told me that Allah (SWT) knows what’s in a believer’s heart

Allah (SWT) knows, before we even utter a word, how sincere we are

I finally feel like I’m living my true life

I’m the kind of muslim I always wanted to be

I don’t care what anybody could say about me

I like to walk to the beat of my own drum

Dress how I please and act how I like

I did it as a hijabi and will continue doing the same while I’m not

From the get go, my parents were neutral about my decisions

The decision of wearing it and taking it off was all mine

I promised myself that I wouldn’t take it off because of societal factors

Alhamdulilah, I haven’t

When I told them that I also found out that wearing the hijab is a choice

When I told them that I also found out that hijab is not obligatory

They were okay with it, they agreed with my perception of it

I took off my hijab because of the concrete proof I found in the holy Qur’an

Not because of the racial slurs people yelled at me while I still wore it

Not because of the rising hate towards muslims

All that to say, the hijab or the beard doesn’t make the pious muslim/muslimah

It’s how genuine your imaan (faith) actually is

It’s by how we abide to the five pillars of Islam

The hijab is so much more than simply covering one’s hair

It’s a woman’s overall modesty, physical and behavioral 

As this is a very debated topic, I’ll end this post right here.

From this day forward, I’m aiming for a simpler, easier way to be a muslim

Living by my Shahada (declaration of faith)

Performing my five daily prayers

Fasting the holy month of Ramadan

Giving Zakaat (money to charity) 

Going to Hajj and perform my pilgrimage (Insha’Allah - God willing)

After losing 90 pounds I consider myself to be a gym rat, but I haven’t always been this way. I hated going to the gym and doing the same routine on the treadmill everyday….SO BORING! That’s when I realized that doing different treadmill workouts would not only be good for my sanity, but maybe good for my health too! Eddy: I can achieve anything Edd: there’s a logical way to achieve what I want Ed: there’s nothing standing in my way

Eddy hopping over the fence indicates his willingness to “cheat” the system, or to take a shortcut. Much like his schemes, it might end up being more work, but in his mind, cheating is the best way to get ahead. Edd goes the neat and logical way, he’s straight forward. BUT, note that he closes the gate behind him rather than leaving it open. He’s incredibly meticulous and even if it’s more convenient to leave it open for anyone coming in behind him, he has to leave things neat, tidy and as he found them. Ed is also is straight forward, he in fact is using the MOST direct route. But this route is one no one else would consider because it seems completely nonsensical. Which sums him up pretty well. The fact that it works for him is also fun to note. In general his earnestness and determination carries him through situations that most people would be stopped by.

This child has suffered in a country filled with terror, managed to escape and then walked and traveled her way from one continent to another. This is a child in the mids of terror and hatred. Her people have been kicked and spit at. She is a child who have not been allowed to be a child. She is a victim of a war she can’t controll. And then she arrives at the other side of the world, and someone finally treats her like a child. Who see her and play with her and give her some comic relief in the mids of the most traumatic experince of her life, in a country where no one speaks her language and it is so much colder than what she has known. In the mids of war and terror we forget that kids are still kids, and this police officer on the other side of the world reminds us that they are indeed children. Don’t come here and “and?” me!
