I know I pretty much just sent in the Mu request, but I really love your icons! If you don’t have any other requests you want to prioritize, may I request Tsubaki or Izayoi? Also, enjoy your break! It must be really time-consuming to make so many icons. I’m looking forward to seeing whoever you decide to make next.
omg... thank you ;_; honestly i made these icons on a whim bc i saw people wanting icons of x character when there weren’t that many, so i thought i’d put my meager photoshop skills to good use. if people like or are using them then that’s all it takes to make me happy about making them! it’s a hobby for me to do it with games with portraits like blazblue’s
it’s actually not that time-consuming to make because i record a photoshop action after i make a sample. this means that after i make bases of all the portraits i want to use of that character, i can just hit go and save it. every icon of the story mode portraits uses a near-identical process, only differing in levels/color balance/opacity of some layers. the most time-consuming part of the process is settling on which expressions i want to use, adding them as layers to the base, and saving the different expressions as bases. it is also the most boring part. some characters don’t have many diff expressions (ex lambda, mu has many but...most are functionally identical because of her Ginormous Faceplate covering up her eyebrows), while others have A LOT (naoto due to his bloodedge mode--oh my god i spent so much time on his icons). some particular icons i spend a very long time on because of one quirk or another. ex, i spent ages trying to get celica’s healing magic for her sprites to look right (i did not succeed) or naoto’s bloodedge mode sprites (i also did not succeed). but generally once i settle on the process, it only takes a few seconds to pump out a new icon from the base. it also makes them all look identical which is what i want
ex, cropped & resized base to finished product. there is actually ZERO selective coloring or even textures involved here and only 3 adjustment layers (levels, color balance, and hue/saturation). most of it is just various other layers creating that the, uh, particular aesthetic i want and a high pass layer set to soft light as a sharpener. once i decide on the look of an icon i usually get them done in a day or two
tsubaki will be a lengthier process because of her corrupted/mind eater portraits, so when i return from my break i will focus on izayoi! stay tuned in about two weeks
