One of the ugly parts of mental illness that no one talks about is seeking out abusive people. Even without realizing I’m doing it, I get caught up in talking to people I know are going to take advantage of me. I’m not free from blame, I should make an effort to improve and be aware of the relationships I maintain, but I can’t help but find comfort in the familiarity of being manipulated and used. It’s like a fucked up form of nostalgia.
