It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.

This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.

“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.

“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.

“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.

Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.

I’m reading this book about the changing arctic and the author stayed with the Nunamiut people of inland alaska for a while and talked to this high school kid who was like “ugh I hate going to school in the spring I wish I was hunting caribou” and I thought that was charming. you often hear about people who are devoted to preserving their traditional culture and knowledge but it’s rare to hear about someone who’s invested in the old ways out of pure teenage selfishness. school is lame and hunting caribou is awesome

Cw religious stuff (Christianity)

I hate my relationship with religion.

I believe in God, but then I'll read a verse and it'll make his "goodness" feel impossible. I haven't been able to touch my Bible in weeks. I don't even WANT to, but I'm scared of someone being eternally mad at me just because I don't feel like reading or trying to convince people that one of the many religious books of the world is real.

I don't want heaven either, eternal worship sounds like a nightmare. But what if I'm just not holy enough? What if I COULD want it if I just tried hard enough?

I hope that God isn't real. I just want to die and be dead. But I can't bring myself to fully believe that he doesn't exist.
