young artist posting your work online, heed my warning. im holding your face so gently in my hands, you have to stop caring about numbers right now and start caring about making the weirdest and most self-indulgent art you possibly can
STOP listening to the demon of capitalism and START listening to the angel of hedonism, i love you i believe in you keep making what you love forever ok?
As important to hear for new artists as it is for seasoned veterans. Sometimes we forget. Me especially.
Go out and make the art 12 year old you would have gone feral over. Be cringe and have fun (੭ˋᵕˊ)੭ ~✨️
Photographer, Lassi Rautiainn, tracked a female grey wolf and a male brown bear, in FInland, for 10 consecutive days. They spent time together playing and even sharing food. "It's unusual for a bear and a wolf to agree in this way," the photographer said.

A signature doesn't ruin your art. It enhances it. It's your calling card. The final touch. The dot over the i. Your seal of approval. It’s your way of saying, regardless of where it may end up; “I made this.” This sort of identifying ownership is important.

Exactly.
Recently had to talk to someone who had perfection paralysis (or, in the words of Adam Savage, hamstrung by possibilities).
I've been doing artistic work for myself and others for nearly two decades now so here's my advice.
It'll never be perfect. And even if it *is*, you will come to nitpick and dislike things about it in time. You have to learn to sit with that discomfort, know that everything is flawed, and that artistic growth is an infinite path. So do the thing.
btw with art when people say 'youve got to do it scared' 'youve got to draw bad' 'youre not gonna know how to do it until you do it' it sounds like bullshit but its true. 90% of art is just getting over the fear that it's not going to be good enough to deserve to be made in the first place. but you're here. you're alive and, with no need to justify that, you're going to make art. it's just part of being alive. you'll spend so long worrying you aren't doing it good enough that you'll look back and realized you didn't live a single day of it.
btw its always morally correct to reblog your own art or writing onto the dash. you are always right to do this. and if people get annoyed then too bad. this is not a satire post or sarcastic this is genuine. reblog your works. and every time someone complains that you reblog your own stuff too much do it again. be proud of what you create.
I consistently underestimate the value of doing warmups before drawing. Just always do it. Even if you don't feel like you have to. Five minutes of zebra stripes will make a world of difference I promise.
It's a drawing exercise where you fill the page with vertical lines while alternating pressure, so the end result is a bunch of zebra stripes. Like this:
It's a good exercise for when you plan on inking, and for loosening up your arms if you're like me and prone to drawing from the wrist. Of the warmups I've tried this is the one I've found particularly effective.
so i was a contract live caricaturist for a while, and my supervisor for that company taught me a lot of good ones! my favorites are "fur tufts" and "flowers", which are exactly what they sound like
like the zebras, they loosen your arm up and are meant to help you get comfy with line weight too! and they also help a LOT with line confidence!
but just a couple minutes of just loop de loops or hatching or outright scribbling is WAY better than nothing! OP's v right about the importance of warming up
