It’s been a while since I was genuinely inspired. Mayor of Newark @rasjbaraka and son of poet Amiri Baraka Spoke at Stony Brook U recently in honor of the Dept’s 50th Anniversary and tribute to his father. We all left that place with a renewed sense of mission and purpose in our lives. The people of #Newark must be very proud to have this man as their Mayor. This is a future Governor! ~ Amiri Baraka his dad taught at Stony Brook for some 18 years, and left quite the mark— as he must have at the many universities he taught at. He’s the intellectual and spiritual guidepost for our department, and what we are about.
