signs that it’s a fucking scam:
- the person you’re supposed to contact is a woman since we naturally trust women more
- there’s no details on what the job is
- there’s only a phone number
- get paid to travel schemes
- ads appear mostly on college campuses
- if there’s no way to apply online, if there’s no way to send them ur resume. even for entry level jobs or for jobs you don’t need experience for, employers still want to know about your professional experience
- if you say you’re interested and they automatically ask to interview you. legitimate businesses don’t have the time to do this.
- if there’s no details on what idustry, what position, job requirements, etc.
- sometimes they’ll say that the boss is so interested in you that they want to meet you personally at their house. R E D F L A G
- if they give you an address, look it up on google maps. sometimes it’ll be for houses (not normal, do not go), sometimes it’ll be for buildings in abandoned plazas/strip malls. do not go !!!!
- sometimes they’ll try to gain your trust by giving you a check for a bonus. they’ll tell you to deposit it and wait for it to clear and in the mean time, you’re gonna give them more info. don’t deposit it. don’t trust them.
- if you DO end up going to an interview, say in a public space like starbucks (totally normal, many legitimate businesses do this), sometimes they might say “ur interview is going rlly well, let’s go somewhere private to continue.” DO NOT GO. decline their offer, but don’t leave right away. say you’re meeting a friend or have another interview in a few minutes. wait until they leave before you do. that way, they can’t fucking follow you.
- if you try to ask for more details and ask questions, they’ll get mad. if your guardians/parents/any Certified Adult tries to ask questions, they’ll get really fucking angry.
there’s a ton of other red flags but i can’t think of any more rn. please be careful !! look out for yourselves and your friends.
