Okay, so I'm cheating a little since this is an excerpt of a fic I have written in spanish (with a bit of editing so it works without much context), and is early Blackinnon, during their second year, slowly becoming friends. Also, James is there too.
(Detention | Words: 879 | Blackinnon Week @blackinnonapp)
Just before the winter holidays, she had already had been in detention at least three times and was on her way to her fourth: cleaning the cauldrons used for potions classes, without the help of magic. It was, by far, the worst one yet, since what happened to ingredients when the potions were unsuccessful was downright nauseating.
—Would it be too ironic if I ended up vomiting into the cauldrons while cleaning them? —James asked from the back of the hall.
Detention was shared between her, James, and Sirius, and although she suspected it would have to be obvious for most students, Marlene did not know what they had done to end up there, just as they had been surprised to see her enter the dungeon.
—As long as I don't have anything to do with it, do whatever you need to, Potter —replied Sirius, who had his arm up to his elbow trying to scrape whatever was at the bottom of the cauldron he was holding, his nose wrinkled in disgust.
Her drifting mind, the very same that was responsible for paying little to no attention to her classes—and had landed her there in the first place—was anywhere but in the same room as them, until Sirius shouted at her. James had been trying to talk to her about the last quidditch match for several moments.
She had to blink a couple of times to refocus, remembering where she was and why, as well as the company she was in. Sirius kept half his arm inside the cauldron, but he hadn't taken his eyes off her.
—I—I wasn't at the match —she replied, once she was able to remember what James, behind her, was talking about.
A small wrinkle appeared between Sirius's eyebrows, but as far as Marlene could tell, it could well have been a reaction to whatever was at the bottom of his cauldron. She certainly didn't want to know what was inside hers.
—Oh, you didn't see my debut as chaser? —James asked, sounding a little disappointed.
It was a feeble thought, but Marlene felt a twinge of guilt at his words. James, after all, was still promoting the idea that Marlene would be a great addition to the team next year, especially after the whole team heard about the talks of Damien—her older brother and Gryffindor quidditch legend—taking the official position of chaser at Puddlemere United.
—I was with my family that morning —she finally confessed.
If she had told anyone else in her year, it would have aroused curiosity at most, but since it was James and Sirius, two sons of prominent magical families, Marlene hadn't noticed the connotation of her words. Usually, being taken out of the castle in the middle of term meant bad news. And although in Marlene's case that was true, it wasn't the kind of bad news that the two boys were, no doubt, imagining.
—Did something happen with your parents? —Sirius was the first to ask, still staring at her, and Marlene understood.
—Oh, no —she replied, horrified, even more so than she already was. It wasn't exactly clear why, but in recent years, several strange things had been happening at the Ministry, and disappearances and attacks for no apparent reason were becoming more common—. Nothing like that, just normal stuff, I guess. My grandmother hasn't been well the last few weeks.
Sirius relaxed his frown and Marlene felt James approaching them, having managed to clean his cauldron without getting sick, in search of the next one.
She could sense that the atmosphere around her had changed, and she feared that once again Sirius and James were communicating with each other in that strange way of them, without the need for words, which she disliked. If there had been more people around, she might have felt differently, but it seemed clear that whatever was going through their minds concerned her.
It was the idea that they were pitying her in some way that prompted her to act before James could say anything about her grandmother or her family. Clenching her hand into a fist, Marlene forced herself to scoop up the sticky substance at the bottom of the cauldron she was scraping and managed to throw it at James before any of the boys had time to react or stop her.
Sirius's bright eyes widened and a loud laugh escaped his mouth. At first, Marlene was almost as surprised as James when she felt the impact hitting him, but before she had a chance to regret it, she burst out laughing.
If she had to be honest, she probably hadn't laughed like that since the morning when she and Sirius had spent commenting on the trials of Gryffindor's quidditch team at the beginning of the year, yet she didn't have much time to appreciate it, since the boys had decided to take her lead and attack her back. They spent the next few minutes running back and forth in the potions classroom, dodging and throwing disgusting and questionable substances at each other at the same time, accomplishing the complete opposite of what they have been tasked.
When laughter drove professor Slughorn back to the classroom, he learned an important lesson in letting trouble makers do detention together.

Sirius’ birthday | Words: 831 | Blackinnon Week | @blackinnonapp
—Oh no —Marlene pouted, balancing a tray with all sorts of breakfasts delicacies in her hands, and closing the door behind her with her feet—. No getting up —she chastised.
She had managed to wake up before Sirius and sneak out of bed without waking him up, and now he was standing near the bed, pulling up a pair of pants from the floor.
—I was going to go find you, we can eat downstairs —he said, walking up to her and catching her by the waist to kiss her temple.
—But I made you a special birthday breakfast in bed —she complained, putting the tray between the two, pushing him further into the room.
Sirius let out sigh that sounded more like an endearing laugh.
—It will still be a birthday breakfast if we eat it in the kitchen—he pointed out, but Marlene persisted on pushing him back to the bed, which was, after all, the essential part of her gesture, as she insisted until she finally made herself comfortable sitting on her knees right next to a bare chested Sirius, who had successfully, albeit reluctantly, laid in bed once again.
—Any reason why you are being so pushy this morning? Not that I'm complaining —he asked, mindlessly caressing Marlene's naked legs with his left hand.
—Other than wanting to spoil my man on this memorable day to celebrate his existence with all sorts of savoury goods? —She asked innocently, shoulders shrug as she made a point to elevate the tray with the food in question to Sirius' eye level. Just then, a suspiciously loud thumb came from downstairs.
Sirius raised an eyebrow, questioningly.
—Really?
—Yes.
Marlene replied was muffled by another thumb, which made her narrow her eyes and scrunch her nose in annoyance.
It was bad enough that James had insisted on coming to Sirius' flat at the crack of dawn, not letting a precious minute of the day go to waste, but now he had apparently gotten distracted and forgot to silence the room so his best friend—the birthday boy he was trying to surprise—wouldn't suspect a thing.
—Are you sure this isn't a sordid attempt to keep me distracted from whatever is going on downstairs?
Marlene snorted, finally leaving the tray on top of the bedside table.
—There's nothing sordid about this —she pointed out—. You need feeding, I like taking care of you, and what if it is of convenience for James to set up his gift for you in the meanwhile? It was either that or letting him bring you the tray.
—He wouldn't.
—You think him incapable? I swear every birthday he puts more effort into it than any lovesick school girl would. And Merlin knows you had your fair share of those.
—So which one are you more jealous of? Prongs or my devoted fan club back at Hogwarts? —Sirius teased.
—Neither, you twat! —she complained in mocked horror, pinching him in the arm while he laughed it off—. I'm sure he's waiting for me to come down so he can come in and jump on you, if he's not too impatient to barge in at any moment now.
—Well then… —Sirius started saying, closing the gap between their faces—. Maybe we should teach him a lesson on how lovesick girls actually show their affection —he completed, as he took Marlene by the waist and pulled her closer so she was forced to swing one knee over, and straddled him.
—Are you trying to encourage him or dissuade him? —She asked, a little concern at the implication.
—I was thinking more on the lines of traumatizing him —Sirius smirked, and the boyishness of the gesture illuminated his eyes with a spark of mischief, both hands grabbing her waist while she rested her hands on his chest.
Marlene smiled amused at the thought of James running into them rolling all over bed, and then let out a practice sigh.
—Hmm, I don't know… —she hummed, flattening Sirius' chest with her palms as if she was debating whether or not to wear jeans or a robe, like the warmth of his skin and the tingle of his breath near her neck wasn't doing much for her in manners of the flesh, let alone her imagination.
Sirius moved closer, rubbing his short hair all over Marlene's face and neck like a dog would, looking for a little affection.
—But it's my birthday —he reminded her, hugging her so tight by her legs that he lift her up a little, and buried his head in her chest.
—Good thing I put a warming charm on the food then —she replied, voice soft, hands slowly grazing his skin until she found his jaw and lifted his head so she could look at him, at those clear blue eyes that somehow miraculously that day, were anything but stormy.
It was gonna be a good day, she thought. She was going to make sure of it.
Need an invitation to AO3?
If you want you can use the collection https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Blackinnonweek since I change it to Blackinnonfest there have been no new works since 2021.
Oh that would be lovely!
We are still waiting for the invitation to AO3 though. It should come next week, but I'm not sure how accurate the date is lately. Also, we are still figuring out how collections for events works, but YES! We would love to use it and try to bring it back to life!

We will have any specific tags to use on ao3?
Great question!
In all honesty, we hadn't consider that aspect to it for the immediate future, but since it is being asked (and it is a fantastic idea!), we definitely encourage you to post any work for this under the tag "Blackinnon Week NOV 2025" to make it easier for us to find later on (both on AO3 and Tumblr), and potentially add it to an official collection.
Since AO3 accounts can only be created through invitation, sadly there's not much of a chance for us to do it this time around, so we will have to do it retroactively.
We will, however, be making a separate post collecting all the works shared for Blackinnon Week once it ends, making it easy to find for those who would like catch up later on.
Hope this helps!
