ugh, yeah i’ve seen it. i feel like i saw most of those when they were first published (the kate ones included, because i was around back then) but it’s startling to see them put side by side like that.

and i said this to someone on twitter and i’ll say it here: on these comparisons, it’s less about getting people to hate kate and more about showing that the saying “black people have to work twice as hard for half the credit/recognition” still rings true. she’s slammed for things kate was praised for, and they exaggerate kate’s work while slandering meghan’s.

if anything, it’s unfair to kate that the media has pitted her and meghan against each other, because she was never going to live up to the image they’ve painted of her in order to tear meghan down. it’s also a rather awful insult to her, as it makes it seem like the only way she could possibly look better or more accomplished is when a woman of color is being put down.

it’s rank sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, and racism all wrapped into one and those who participated or don’t think it’s that big of a deal should be ashamed of themselves. there was never “never complain, never explain”-ing themselves out of this one.
