It's not that complicated to do a blade movie or anything blade related.
But this requires people to not be racist, respect black people, and actually genuinely love vampire media/culture,atl black folk, and genuinely love the character. AND GENUINELY ACTUALLY WANT BLADE TO BE THERE. And put in the work and not half ass it.
The problem is nobody can agree on anything without excuses to not have a black male lead superhero film that doesn't cater to fragile racist white nerd feelings. Look I love blade. I want a fucking blade movie. But until people grow tf up and get over themselves about blade. We aint getting shit for him.
Look blade is niche. Yes. But damn how hard is it to ask some alt/gothic black blerds about blade and what they'd like to see?! How hard marvel?!
The problem is they still are catering to a particular group of people with these mcu movies. Im all for a wide audience but i dont feel they really are going for a wide audience if they dont include a black character that isn't sidelined or have 3 sec of screentime. And so far. No black superhero lead movies seem to be talked about or shown or in production it seems. No not small screen streaming series. No. I mean a big screen movie. None that i can see? Black panther doesn't count. Because we got that. Wheres the rest? Wheres misty knight? Wheres storm? Where's powerman/luke cage? Where cloak(and dagger)? Where's FUCKING BLADE?!!!!? Hell ironheart is taking a dive it seems quietly in the background. It's sus.
And no the movie for blade doesn't need to be like the comics. But ffs it's not hard to fucking make a vampire movie.
Barest of minimum.
Marvel is sus. Hella sus with their choices for black superheroes rn.
If i ever got a chance to work with marvel. And on a blade series or run.
The only way I'd work with them is
Is if i have full say and to work with trusted people on said project. AND ONLY PEOPLE I TRUST. (I would love to have wesley snipes on board but again that's a tall order)
Full pay and credit on said project, and for them to credit marv wolfman too at bare minimum.
And for people to drop the early day 70s run ideas or to stop putting blade in specificly questionable "eras" because it wasn't as good as people claim it was and it leaves me to raise a brow at "why specifically during prohibition or colonial times or even during civil rights era during the 70s? Like a modern blade is so unfathomable to y'all?" . Leave it in the past. Some things are ment to be left in the past look some things need revamping (no pun intended) . I understand why,but also it's never done in good taste and feels like a characturue and not really a 3d character or a world lived in? It's trope based and to click boxes. Maybe its just me tho. But i feel its questionable when we constantly put black characters in particular settings. And for blade to genuinely shine on his own. Or at least not feel like he's 2nd banana in his own story.
So a pipedream to say the least.
But hey i can dream.
Look sometimes i just feel sad knowing the blade i envision may never come to pass. Or nobody actually wants to hear about.
Very angry rant. Dont read if you dont wanna hear me bitch about blade and his current condition and place in marvels universe:
I feel most blade fans are casuals. It's not bad. But it's also hard when you're a passionate person. Especially to an very underrated character. And underappreciated character.
And not actually into the complexities of the character.
Like most blade fans now I've seen are either into blade thru damn marvel rivals. Are actually fans of that stupid daughter trope he has(i fucking hate him having kids no offense y'all but blade is NOT FATHER MATERIAL. not everyone needs to procreate or have kids to be fulfilled. Blades world shouldn't have children like that. His world is dark and dangerous af. Keep kids out of this story unless it's to show the horrors. Plz for the love of stan lee yall!) only now getting into him thru his cameo in deadpool 3.
Rare few actually came here thru the og movies or if they do. They miss the entire point of the them.
Even more rare is the comic fans of the original before the movie. (Tho i personally have gripes with that particular version of blade but it is refreshing to see ogs at least)
I just feel more people aren't actually comic fans or marvel fans outside of movies.
That's also sad.
But when i do find the rare few blade fans on here. They dont even like the main character blade. And the few that do are so few,i feel like i just met a unicorn that farts mints.
Hyperbole aside. In all seriousness
I feel people miss the point WHY Mr.snipes and Mr. marshalla are pissed at marvel studios and the industry right now surrounding blade and the characters world.
It's because they wanna gimmick him and treat the character as a sidepiece. Not see him as a serious and well done complex character. They treat him as a joke to throw around for Halloween. Or because they ran out of ideas to fuck over other black superheroes. Which marvel is very much doing rn. If you dont understand, plz pay more attention. This is why i hate what they've BEEN doing with blade. But also other superheroes too.
Look i want blade.
BUT I WANT BLADE DONE RIGHT WITHOUT FUCKING OTHERS STEALING HIS SPOTLIGHT BECAUSE Y'ALL FEEL INTIMIDATED BY A BLACK MALE LEAD CHARACTER. not only that but a gothic, alt, black character at that. Y'all cool if it's tone deaf and watered down.
But heaven forbid a black character is actually fucking spooky and dark.
See as someone who is a little lover of the dark side of stuff. The horror. The gothic. The macabre.
When i do it. People cheer. When a black man or gal or nb pal. Does it. "Oh no clutch my pearl jeannie it's the debil" fucking double standards.
I will say this. I'm more likely to have representation. Im more likely to. In poor quality or variable degrees. But hey i have something.
Black alt kids and adults who have fuck all nothing?! Yeah they have nothing y'all.
Where's their representation? Where's it at? Nowhere. They have to actively search for it harder.
So blade.
Is an opportunity
To give them. Representation.
Im talking Afro paganism, gothic atl scene, nightclubs, vampire African mythos, hell even some other spooky shit. Like seriously! The possibilities are endless! The more i look into culture references. The more i get pissed it's not being used.
Blade is such a goldmine for storytelling. But the marvel wanta to dick around with itself.
Fuck blade's brat kid (shouldn't even exist. Should've been just a vampire hunter not connected to blade directly)
Fuck them constantly putting him with other heroes only to be overtalked and overtook.
Fuck marvel. Seriously.
Like god damn it's like the blade 1998 director said.
It's not hard to write blade.
At all.
Y'all just lazy and dont wanna do it and be honest with that.
To make myself feel better have a blade. The only blade we give a fuck about. And the only one that matters. (Not his dumb daughter(hate that sincerely honestly),not his dumb sidelined stories they always wanna do. None of that comicbook ish nonsense. Just good old fashioned, blade being blade)
The only time and exception to my rule of comicbooks first or "the comics are (usually) better". Blade's movies made HIM better. All because of one Mr.Wesley Snipes.
Nah blade's movies are significantly better and i take them over his comicbook version anyday.
Which is why marvel needs to get off their asses but we know they won't or will screw it up somhow. I'm not holding my breath for them anymore.
But anyways. Blade....coolest motherfucker in the room. 🤘🏻💖
My hcs and hc verse and version of dragonetti as well.
I wanted him to be a bigger threat and play a bigger part than he did in the movies and even the ps1 game. I absolutely love his design in the game. So i took some liberties from that.
And my hc verse of blade, the daywalker himself.
Like there's so much i wanna do and have plans for blade. But nobody to share my vision to and infodump to. *cries*
Because I've never been truly satisfied with marvel's handling of the character. Or mishandling if you will.
But anyways here blade vs dragonetti and a portrait of the bastard himself.
(Used a base)
*edit i just forgot his tattoos. Ugh. Oh well imagine there there. Lol
*add on edit: look i don't oppose kids in narratives. They just are overused to "spice" the story up and an excuse to reinstate ips. It's never done in good faith. And not everyone is suitable for kids.*
I feel people are afraid to admit the first blade movie. BLADE (1998),did it better than the og comics.
Because i dunno maybe it's just me but having every single vampire come from Europe kinda is boring.
Like blade being a dhampir child, born in America, street kid, etc. Hits harder i feel than some British kid who got lucky and a part of a secret hunting society. Iykyk with blade comicbook verse. Look it's fine i guess. But maybe that's just me seeing every single damn vampire media take place or start from Europe. Like sure the myths come from there. But still. Not every single damn one needs to start there.
But the movies made it hit harder and more home i feel (?) To the audience. Especially blerds. Than i feel what was originally done. Not to say it's not interesting. But it's also overdone.
Now....
His mother vanessa brooks. Who eventually turned into a vampire and that who shbang happened. Now she can be British American if you want.
Fine thats fine. But blade himself being born in America, having to trudge thru American hellhole while developing and discovering who and what he is. Growing up alongside his mentor,Whistler. That has more impact.
Because until he met Karen jenson,he didn't really feel "community" till her. He kinda felt alone, even with his love for his father figure Whistler. Dont get me wrong,he cares for tye old man. And that's absolutely true. However. ....i feel the impact personally with blade having this conflict presented to him. With that sense of "belonging" and identity is important too. And no offense. But if you were a black kid,who grew up on the streets orphaned and knew nothing but survival. Living day to day not knowing who or what you are. Some old guy scoops you up and takes you under his wing. And is a surrogate family. And knows very little other black people, not because of the usual reasons but simply because you are not like them.
You're dhampir. Which can be an allegory for him being autistic as well. Or just in general not of the crowd.
So yeah. Meeting someone else who understands or at least is sympathetic and empathetic to your situation is healing af.
Karen is like a best friend and sister to him. He grew up without a mother. So yeah blade probably projected. Can you blame him?
No. Not one but.
(Part of the reason why i can't stand the people who ship it and not get why she's not a love interest, she the window to his humanity and isn't a romantic partner. But a friend and door to community and finding his way to belonging or accepting himself within. Again. Sure,i want blade to have a sweetheart. But first things first. Can he be himself and get his story back first?! Thank you)
Anyways. I just feel blade's entire character is more than what was ever said or stated. It can be more. It can be so much more.
Look I'm no expert,im definitely not nessicarly one to truly encapsulate or state the experience of being autistic and black and poor (that would go to my partner honestly so i would love to have his thoughts) but i do feel...it should steer away from the typical vampire tropes and give a lift to black voices about that feeling of discovering themselves, healing, fighting against injustice, etc. Like so many many other heroes do this. Not always well. But the do them. Blade is hardly given a chance outside of a niche and overplayed trope. Again this is just my personal thoughts. I just feel its something that should be expanded upon in blade's identity and stories.
Being a vampire hunter for him has layers. Lots of em. And it's hard to unpack without having to explain WHY or WHAT those layers are to people.
It's so much more.
I feel the vison i have for blade the world isn't ready for. Maybe it is. I dunno.
I just wish blade could have something more to him other than what we get.
Im so damn hungry for depth.
Look im a simple marvel fangirl,i love me some sexy superheroes.
But lord knows i fucking crave depth of a character and story more than bazongas on a screen.
I wanna cry,be inspired, learn, grow, etc. On god plz make me feel for comicbooks again. Or a story in general.
And keep in mind. There's no love interest or secret third forced sideplot ,just a good story,it's street lvl,all the characters have their own story that doesn't step on each others toes. While coming together perfectly.
They dont overshadow blade(our protag) while shining on their own right while playing their part.
Keep an open mind and take it as it flows.
Dont force a trope or subplot where it don't belong.
And most importantly above all else.
Have fucking fun. And give respect to the black alt kids and the outcasts.
Sure, you can read the comics. (On god plz do) but keep in mind some things in the comics just don't age well or translate.
Blade is one of those niche characters that honestly deserves better.
Y'all just don't wanna admit a black character did it first and made superhero movies cool or paved the way for success.
Y'all don't wanna admit an unapologetically black male lead in a movie with an unapologetic black female lead that WAS NOT A LOVE INTEREST,not a damsel in distress, not some angry jealous biznotch, she was smart, clever, held her own and didn't need saving but actively sought help from said male lead. And did it mostly with grace and done in a very grounded and believable way. Honestly karen jennson was fucking awesome. She was her own hero. And that was rare in 1998. Very rare. Especially for a black woman. So yeah.
Y'all dont wanna admit the first blade movie in 1998 was actually good. And actually did shit.
Nope y'all wanna have all these round about ways to not admit that wesley snipes. Did that. 💖
Blade saved marvel. Y'all just fucking racist and bias as fuck because he's not a white male lead/character that you can market or capitalize upon easy. He's not "digestible" enough for you to sell. In other words....y'all have fucking bias. And the industry is racist and y'all don't care enough to admit that.
