Sauron walking into Eregion like
haven't posted any adar in a while
Dear Informed Tolkien/Silmarillion Fans That Somehow Enjoy Rings of Power,
Why
Him
And getting deep into the show lore to bully middle school girl Sauron that’s fun too
(I personally just view the show as a separate entity, Space Balls style. And that’s how I watched it and now I’m in love and Silverscars has taken OVER my brain)
ehehehe yes, HIM 😁
I also love the music and visually it's quite nice to look at too. But yeah, it's more of a separate thing. Someone in the other reblogs said smth like all adaptations are basically fanfic (or smth like that, sorry if I misinterpreted it or remembered it wrong), and that's actually a very nice and valid point imo.
Also, because of TROP, I'm resisting the urge now to re-read LOTR, but in English, and the Silmarillion as well. LOTR I read back in 2010...! It's been ages. I'm resisting bc I already have unread books towering waste-high, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to give in at some point...
Oh, and also: him up there... 😂 beloved uruk lord
Yes Him too 💯💯💯 and as I've said somewhere already..
Adar's presence & absence will forever define Middle Earth for me
Because one of the biggest gifts of ROP to the Tolkien Legendarium is it's Uruk & their Adar 🖤
Not sure if I fit the criteria of people who were adressed with this question, but I wanted to reblog to this to say: I agree with the reasons the prevs have given - it's HIM! ;P
Srsly though, I watched and enjoyed both LotR/The Hobbit and return to both regularly. 1st season TROP didn't quite catch me, but a friend on here posted about s2 and I got hooked - I expected to be in it for the Celebrimbor & Annatar storyline, but I stayed for Adar and the uruk (orcs).
(And on the more fannish side of things, same as @forestthechonkykitty with silverscars - I know shipping isn't for everyone, but the possibilities and potential character dynamics between these two especially are very intriguing as well!)
This show managed to create an original character and a narrative for him that deeply resonated with me and still does, who is wonderfully portrayed and has given me greater insight as well as a new perspective on Tolkien's world (or at least, TROP's interpretation on it). *That* is why I love this show.
Also, the fandom is absolutely wonderful. Maybe it is because there is so much vitriol being hurled at the show and those who enjoy it, but the people in this fandom are (for the utmost part) very sweet, welcoming, kind folks who just want to have a good time and make stuff for a thing they enjoy. They have encouraged me to write more, make memes, share my thoughts and theories, to simply *create* and express myself, which I credit as part of my TROP enjoyment.
So, it's a mix of things, but it all comes back to Adar's character and the community that surrounds it.
Do I have my grievances with this show? Yes. But I have had grievances with other media as well - and that just means I (or we, as a fandom) can come up with ideas on how to things could still work, or write fanfic to make it better. Or in general just take cues from what can be critiqued and use that for our own creative endeavours.
I suppose what I want to say is - this show can be enjoyed as a separate thing (or completely removed) from the books or the movies, and still have merit for those that watch and enjoy it.
If goodreads had a Silmarillion fanfiction section I probably would’ve hit my 2024 reading goal about 5x over 😂
The fact that everyone involved in that Wicked “holding space” interview was confused by each other makes it 10x funnier
imo the critics made a poor choice by not nominating at least charlie vickers for an award

Watching Sam Hazeldine's Movies, part 2:
I've added three more of Sam Hazeldine's films to my watched list: The Machine (2013), Persuasion (2007), and The Last Duel (2021).
First up, I really enjoyed The Machine; it's a solid 90-minute AI thriller. Sam's role in it is fairly small, and it's actually one of the critiques I have of the movie - I would've liked a little more of his character. Besides that, the movie is filled with solid performances including those of Caity Lotz (who is excellent), Toby Stephens, and Denis Lawson. It's nothing life-changing, but is a solidly engaging film. It can be found for free on tubi.
Next, I watched Persuasion. I'll be honest that I was completely unfamiliar with this story, having never read the book or seen any other adaptation. I enjoyed the film and Sam's performance as Charles Musgrove; he reminded me a bit of Hugh Laurie in the role. This movie is very Adar heavy as Joseph Mawle is also in it! Really enjoyed him in his role. Overall, I can't say it's my favorite movie in the world, but I'm glad I watched it; there was a lot of running towards the end 😂 It can be watched on Peacock.
Most recently, I watched The Last Duel. This is a movie I'd been meaning to watch since it came out in 2021, so I was glad to finally sit down with it. Firstly regarding Sam's role - I spotted him a couple of times sitting next to several of the main supporting characters at the duel, but I didn't spot him anywhere else in the film? I'm not sure if I just missed him, or if most of his scenes were cut... given where he is sitting in the opening scene, I expected to see more of him.
Here he is in the opening scene:
The movie as a whole is good - I think I'd give it a 7.5/10. Jodie Comer is excellent in her role and Adam Driver also gives a solid performance. Where I came away a bit puzzled, though, was with Matt Damon and, in particular, Ben Affleck. Neither of their performances were bad, but they just seemed to be really odd casting. It didn't necessarily take away from the film (though good lord what was going on with Ben Affleck's hair) but I do think that some different actors might have added a bit to it. Jodie Comer was, in my opinion, the highlight of the film.
A few of my favorite clips:
Ben Affleck's fantastically protracted proclamation of "cuuunt!":
Adam Driver's epically devious cape swish in front of the king:
Jodie Comer's delightfully delivered "sow!":
This movie is available to rent online, though I got the DVD from my library (and ugh the DVD is so frustrating to navigate; I accidentally hit the scene back button and I swear it went back 20 minutes). Please read a bit about the content of this film if you are going to watch it, as it is very violent.
-------
I'm not sure what is up next - any recommendations? I'm also thinking of delving into Charles Edwards' filmography; I've seen a few things he is in, but there is a lot left to discover so I'd also be grateful for recommendations there!
