ways i like to write the hetalia characters
North Italy: Feliciano comes off as a bit of a manic pixie - in his own bubble, oddly bright natured in a way that doesn’t fit in with most everything else. Yet he’s cheery without naivety, and clever without the weariness of so many other nations his age. He’s quick-witted in a way most won’t pick up on, in his effortless charm, in his ability to wriggle out of any situation.
Germany: Ludwig runs like a well oiled machine. He’s responsible, efficient, because he was brought up with that steadfastness and discipline. It seeps into his personal interests, but even if he’s not the most in touch with his emotions, it’s okay. He’s as stubbornly dedicated to work as he is with other things that matter, like baking and his dogs and his relationships with others.
Japan: Everything is very careful, very deliberate for Kiku. He’s sensitive to detail, he focuses on the little things over big pictures. As much an island in spirit as he is a nation, he finds comfort in whatever’s familiar, whatever’s safe. He’s private, represses a great deal of emotion, but holds a lot of things close to his heart - namely his traditions and comic books.
America: Alfred is every charm of youth rolled into one person. He’s starry eyed, he’s idealistic, he’s stubborn and honest and brave - and it shows. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he assumes the best of everyone else. Alfred is big dreams, naive promises - it’s walking through the ends of hell and back, bright-eyed and undyingly optimistic no matter what.
England: Arthur claims he’s mellowed with age, but he’s anything but. He may have traded his swashbuckling days for dry wit and biting sarcasm, but he’s still got that flame of ambition and pride burning in him, behind that exterior he loves so much of being a proper gentleman. He’s witty, oddly charming, and still holds that age old air of regality to him.
France: Above all, Francis has an incredible love for life and all it has to offer. He’s a romantic - he lives like he’s in a film, sees the beauty in the extraordinary and the mundane. He’s attractive in a put together sense, he’s deliberate in his dressing and the way he carries himself - but he’s also unconsciously magnetic - in his full hearted nature, in his odd way that makes people want to trust him.
China: There’s an odd sense of wisdom attached to being alive for so long. Yao has his moments of yearning for the past, but he appreciates whatever he has of the present as much. He’s slow to trust, but extremely quick to forgive. Things don’t bother him so much anymore. It could always be a lot worse - it’s always water off a duck’s back for him.
Russia: Ivan is an enigma. Most who meet him don’t know what to take away - he’s incredibly hard to read. He’s by no means a private person though - he’d spill his thoughts and his feelings and his dreams to anybody willing to listen - he’s just a poor communicator. He’s incredibly sentimental, taking comfort in the oddest knick-knacks with dear memories attached to them.
