not only for Anne, but for Marilla too. She learned to embrace the joys of life, not just like in her own little casket. And Anne has helped her do that. I often say that in the first book, the main character arc doesn’t come from Anne, it comes from Marilla. Yes, Anne chances a bunch, but she starts off a child and ends a young woman. Of course she’s going to change. Marilla, though, starts off having done the exact same thing every day for the past 50 years. Change for someone like that is a lot harder and, often, a lot deeper too. And that’s why I adore Marilla.
