The racist imagery in this game was completely unnecessary and I bet they did it to be controversial on fucking purpose without any regard to how that would make people feel. Or with regard, but not for any concern more so than their own shits and giggles.

It wasn’t “unnecessary.” Racism isn’t something that needs to be explained subtly. The game is purposefully doing the opposite of what mass media today does: it’s not sugarcoating it. Columbia as a city is meant to represent the absolute worst of American history and American society, and that is exactly why it doesn’t hold back punches. A lot of our media likes to white wash history and dance around issues of racism in the very concepts of what it means to be American, but this game actually goes out of its way to show how unethical this ideology is.  The game actually does a great job of pointing out problems in our social foundations of racism, sexism, corporate capitalist abuse, religious zealotry. I often hear other P.O.C. on Tumblr complain that the media is skewed to avoid making American and white history in general look bad. If anything, people should play this game, because it doesn’t pretend like American society is perfect: it’s a game that takes the concepts that built this nation and pushes them to extreme to show how morally depraved they really are. Columbia isn’t there for the player to like, and its citizens aren’t there for the player to want to emulate. It’s actually there as an example of exactly what is wrong with white colonialism, racism, xenophobia, white supremacist attitudes, etc. This game is actually being attacked by white supremacists because they think it’s “anti-white,” since the game doesn’t pander. It’s brutal about its portrayal, but for a reason. A good reason.

Man I don’t particularly like the Bioshock series one way or another, but this game. This game did an excellent job with itself. 

I really like what they did with the choices too. They have no real outcome on the game itself, but rather just deepen the connection players have with the game. I read an article from the developers early in the release about how you can choose to hit the couple with a ball or the announcer, and they had yet to see anyone on the the first run through choose to hit the couple. It had no real impact to the gameplay itself, just players felt it was wrong to do so. And that’s saying something, really. 

There are lots of little things like that in this game, and I really like that they can get you that emotionally invested without having a real ‘reward’ other than knowing you did the right thing.

Ah, and for the first person who said it looks like two people being burned at the stake, they were an interracial couple being punished fro being caught together. If you choose not to hit them with a ball you see them together later.

Context means a lot guys okay; if you don’t know the story of course you’d assume it’s a super racist game when it’s really promoting AGAINST that but hey assume makes an ass outta you so there you go.

I just picked up this game and it’s one of the most wonderful stoytelling experiences I’ve had. Infinite just wouldn’t be the same without all of the racist movement going on throughout. It’s a Les Miserables story gone haywire. The moral choices in this game have real effects and sometimes they are truly difficult to make. The whole game takes place in the early 1900s, and is first set in a beautiful floating utopia. Minorities are depicted as they would have been during that time period for continuity’s sake. Hell, without all of the racist overtones, you wouldn’t have such a strong reason to hate the antagonists.

If you’re not playing this game because you’re scared of some old-age racist propoganda, you’re missing out for no reason.

“A young woman was restrained, force-fed and injected with cosmetics in a high street shop window as part of a hard-hitting protest against animal testing.

Jacqueline Traide was tortured in front of hundreds of horrified shoppers in a bid to raise awareness and end the practise.

The 24-year-old endured 10 hours of experiments, which included having her hair shaved and irritants squirted in her eyes, as part of a worldwide campaign by Lush Cosmetics and The Humane Society.

The disturbing stunt took place in Lush’s Regent Street store, one of the UK’s busiest shopping streets.

Jacqueline appeared genuinely terrified as she was pinned down on a bench and had her mouth stretched open with two metal hooks while a man in a white coat force-fed her until she choked and gagged.

The artist was also injected with numerous needles, had her skin braised and lotions and creams smeared across her face.

Passers-by were gobsmacked to see Jacqueline, a social sculpture student at Oxford Brookes University, forced to have a section of her head shaved.

The gruesome spectacle aimed to highlight the cruelty inflicted on animals during cosmetic laboratory tests and raise awareness that animal testing is still a common practise.

The Humane Society International and Lush Cosmetics have joined forces to launch the largest-ever global campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics.

The campaign, launched to coincide with World Week for Animals in Laboratories, is being rolled out simultaneously in over 700 Lush Ltd shops across forty-seven countries including the United States, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Russia.

Lush campaign manager Tamsin Omond said: “The ironic thing is that if it was a beagle in the window and we were doing all these things to it, we’d have the police and RSPCA here in minutes.

“But somewhere in the world, this kind of thing is happening to an animal every few seconds on average.

“The difference is, it’s normally hidden. We need to remind people it is still going on.”
