impossible
jimin x reader drabble
“it’s impossible for you to get over him. even if, he himself, was impossible.”
-
park jimin was your neighbour, your friend and your classmate. you knew him for over a year after his family decided to move into the house next door. from then onwards, you loved him.
jimin was not only your crush, but also your study buddy. you’re parents grew pretty close after the move and decided to set you and him up for a study ‘date’ every once in a while.
of course, jimin didn’t mind this. he was good at almost every subject so the time went by no problem, but unfortunately for you, it did not. you constantly worried if you got the wrong answer or even worse, didn’t understand the question. you were so scared jimin would pick up on your stupidity and pick on you for it. but he never did, he just corrected you and you went on with your studying.
another study date is set up for tonight, you and jimin are studying chemistry which is actually one of your good subjects. you were in a good mood for tonight and started revising before jimin even got there, just so you would know everything and be able to pay attention to him. gosh, he was perfect.
you bounce towards your kitchen to collect some crisps for jimin since he offered you some in his house last time. you opened the big packet and poured them into a bowl before popping the same packet back into the press. you grab a few coke cans just in case and start the walk back up the stairs.
it was 17:15, 15 more minutes until jimin arrived.
you place the food on your desk neatly and start the swipe the crumbs off of your fingers until you see jimin’s figure leaving his house, you note his smile. you can’t help but smile .
but your smile disappears once you see a girl from your school leave his house whilst holding his hand, staring at him lovingly. your heart drops instantly. you never imagined be with jimin but it still hurt to see him together with someone, especially since you knew the girl.
you sit down in your desk chair in disappointment and stare at the crisps. you pick up one and pop it into your mouth, your hand lazily falling by your side. you tilt your head back, not in the mood for a study date, nevertheless see jimin.
the doorbell rings and you hear your mother answering it. “jimin!” she shrieks with happiness, your whole family was quite fond of jimin actually. it was like he was your brother, a really really hot brother.
“good morning, ms l/n.” jimin politely greeted your mother. she loved that. jimin was a charmer, you always knew he’d find someone. then it hits you again, his girlfriend.
“is y/n upstairs?” jimin asks, the sound of his shoes enters the house as you think he shuts the door behind him, since he always does.
“yes, i don’t know why she didn’t come down. she seemed so happy a minute ago.” your mother says and jimin chuckles effortlessly. your chest tightens hearing it.
“okay, thank you.” jimin adds as you hear his shoes run up the stairs. you sit up quickly, rubbing your eyes from the tears of disappointment and pretend to study.
a knock appears on your door and you murmur a small ‘come in’, your voice is choked back from the sadness. you turn and see jimin smiling with his bright pink hair. he was wearing black jeans and a blue sweater that was paired with a small cold train that laid effortlessly on his chest. you smile up at him.
“you’ve started without me?” jimin joker before he closed the door and sat down beside you, you pulled over your stool from the corner of your room for him. his eyes light up at the sight of his favourite crisps and pops one into his mouth before opening his little backpack he brought with him, taking out his books.
“oh, here,” his voice catches your attention but as you turn, jimin holds out a gift for you. it’s a white box wrapped in a red ribbon. you take it with two hands, surprised.
“where did this come from?” you asked lolly at it closely. jimin chuckled and pointed at one of the ribbons and gestured for you to pull it. you do and it unwraps itself to see a gold chain with the word ‘hope’ spelt out. you can’t help but smile.
“it’s for our one year anniversary of our study dates,” jimin adds before you can speak. you look up at him and remember the date, it reallt was. you hug him, softly not wanting to be weird or anything.
“jimin, you really didn’t have to.” you tell him as you continue to thank him. your heart sinks when you realise you hadn’t gotten him anything.
“if i knew we were exchanging gifts, i would’ve got you something.” you tell him. jimin shakes his head.
“it’s only because i know you have your college entrance exam soon, and i want you to wear this, okay?” jimin adds making your heart flutter, even if he was your big fat crush, he was still a caring friend.
you can’t help but hug him again. you take the chain out of he box and run your fingers over the gold material. jimin stands up and walks behind you, he holds his hand out and you give his the necklace. he wraps it around your neck before fastening it at the crook of your neck. he sits back down and looks at you.
“beautiful.” he almost whispers, you swallow deeply. he turns to the desk and picks up his pen, searching through the text book.
the study date goes as planned, no more surprises from jimin, thank god. you wouldn’t think you’d survive if there was any more.
“so what’s going on in your life?” jimin asks as you reach the end of your ‘date’.
“not a lot, studying i suppose?” you chuckle as so does jimin.
“what about you?” you ask, expecting to hear about his new girlfriend but he hesitates.
“i- i know this girl.” jimin tells you but your heart sinks, knowing that you’ll have to pretend to be the caring friend and help him with his girl problems. not that you didn’t care.
“oh? do tell.” you add with a smirk but jimin sits up and stares into the corner of your wall with a ‘hm’ noise.
“she’s really nice and cute.” jimin tells you.
“i haven’t known her long, and she’s perfect for me,” jimin continues to drool over his new girlfriend, you don’t notice that your smile as dropped until jimin looks at you with confusion. you smile back and tell him to continue.
“and...” jimin trails off as you bite your inner cheek and brace yourself for a fuck ton of pain. but it never comes, considering the shouts of your mom downstairs pulls his attention away.
“jimin! don’t you have dance?” your mother asks, she almost memorises his routine. jimin’s eyebrows raise as he goes to collect his stuff in a hurry. he quickly grabs his textbooks and shoved them into.
“i’m really, really sorry.” he adds before standing up. you stand up also, and shake your head.
“you don’t need to apologise, and thank you very much for the gift.” you remind him, smiling at his blushing red cheeks in embarrassment.
you both say your goodbye’s at your front door before jimin rushes towards his bus stop, smiling and waving at you as he does, always. you can’t help but forget his girlfriend, and imagine him and you. god, it seemed impossible.
-
after dinner, your mother decided to speak to you about your neighbour.
“jimin’s pretty cute, right?” she insists, dragging the brush across the floor. you look up from your place on the couch at her.
“yeah, i guess.” you tell her, trying to steer yourself away from the subject she brought up. your mother doesn’t note the hint.
“so—“ she stops herself when she sees your new necklace from him. she gasps.
“y/n! it’s gorgeous, come over here.” she insists, gesturing for you over to her. you don’t know what she means until she’s holding the present in her hand, her fingers caressing ‘hope’ spelt out in gold.
“oh yeah, jimin gave it to me.” you told her as her eyes light up. you knew how happy she’d be to have jimin as a son in law, he was perfect and polite, practically the perfect son.
“it’s to help me through my exams.” you say quietly, your voice pulled back as you fiddle with the chain below your chin.
you look back up and see the smile that rests on your mother’s face, pride. you fake a smile for a second, knowing that things weren’t what she thought they were.
“i’d say jimin really likes you, y/n.” she says, resting on her stood up broom, dazed at the gift. you advert your eyes to the ground.
“he really doesn’t.” your voice is smaller this time, could be considered sad. your mother scoffs at your words.
“what do you mean? he got you a necklace!” she exclaims back and you smile at her enthusiasm.
“trust me, he doesn’t.” you murder your last words before walking back upstairs.
you close your bedroom door, after you do, your back hits the wooden frame, sinking down to the floor in defeat. you bring your hands up to your face, rubbing your swollen eyes. you imagined how things could be different, if you hadn’t looked outside at that exact moment, you might’ve missed the romance and be happily oblivious to it.
if that was the case, right now you’d be smiling uncontrollably on your bed, staring up at your ceiling with pure happiness.
but you’d had to find out sometime, nothing stays a secret forever. not even with jimin.
whilst wallowing in self pity, a knock appears at your window. it’s a small, weary knock, your eyes dart up to see jimin’s smiling face in the window. in the moment, your startled until you pull yourself together to let him in.
“hey,” is all he can say as he climbs through your frame. luckily, the outside of your window goes straight out onto the extension on your porch, so jimin made it here safe but you were still confused as to why he was here.
“hey.” you breath out, still surprised by his sudden arrival.
“sorry that i came through the window, i didn’t want to ring the bell and wake your family up.” jimin scratches the back of his neck in embarrassment but you shake your head and smile at his nervous antics.
“it’s fine,” you tell him, closing the window behind him to stop the cold air blowing in.
it’s silent in your room, but it doesn’t look like jimin minds. you turn and see his figure smiling, walking around your room like he’s never been there before, even those he was an hour ago. he looks tired and sweaty, probably just back from his dance lesson. you bite your lip slightly, praying for him to give you an explanation.
jimin turns around to meet your confused self and he chuckles.
“it’s pretty weird that i’m here, right?” his voice is happier than normal, he’s a little giddy.
“the weird thing here is the way your acting.” you joke, jimin smiles and licks his lips softly.
“you’re right.” is all he says, you look at him as his face falls, he sits at the end of your bed. he holds his head in his hands, elbows resting on his thigh. you sit down on the chair in front of him.
“are you gonna tell me what’s up?” you ask, very concerned. jimin looks up at you.
“yeah, okay”. he coughs before continuing.
“i saw you today, obviously. you bought me chips from the shop and i gave you a necklace.” jimin wants to keep going but you want to stop him almost immediately after he begins.
you wanted to ask why he was replaying today’s moments like a story you’ve never heard. but something else comes out of his story, he saw you buy the chips for him?
“wait— you saw me buy the chips?” you ask, your head tilting. jimin tenses up and starts fidgeting with his fingers nervously, like a child who’s been caught eating sweets before dinner or something.
“yeah...” his voice is low.
“and you didn’t say hi?” you ask suspiciously but jimin shakes his head. “why?”
jimin’s eyes meet your gaze with a guilty expression. your eyebrows are furrowed.
“i-i was just awkward... i thought it would be weird.” he admits.
“why would it be weird, jimin? i’ve known you long enough for us to say shit like that.” you explain but jimin doesn’t seem to get it.
jimin stands up out of frustration with your words. he’s angry at you. why? you don’t know. but you do know he’s being a little bitch, no matter how much you love him.
you follow him when he goes to look outside, you try to see what he’s looking at. it’s nothing but your front garden.
“what are you on, jimin?” you spit out, you’re normally shy but not now, your words hit jimin like a burn from a candle, harmless but it hurts.
“i used to stand right there—“ he points right outside your house.
“every single morning waiting for you, but just playing it off as a coincidence we ran into each other.” he chuckles at his antics, making you more confused than ever.
“what?” you almost whisper. it’s now his eyes meet yours and it’s only now you realise how close you actually are.
“our study dates. i asked my mom to organise them, to see you.” your breath hitches while jimin states intensely at you.
“don’t you get it?” he asks you seriously but you stay still. frozen in time.
“please say you love me.” jimin almost begs you, his hand moves to your jaw, holding your face up to look at him.
“i-i love you.” you tell him and he smiles, his lips come closer to you but stop.
“close your eyes,” he tells you, you do so.
jimin steps back from you, looking at you for a second longer. you wait for him, but he just comes close to your ear.
“thank you.” jimin tells you. after a second or two, you open your eyes but jimin’s gone but your window is open.
he left you, retreating back to his frustration. he was absolutely impossible.

my new roommate said that her last roommate had an eating disorder and then talked to me about her clean eating and weight loss goals and how she buys clothes that are a little snug to motivate her to lose more
and like honestly? i have anorexia but this is why i constantly talk about the dangers of the “health and fitness” industry and diet culture bc we have essentially normalized certain symptoms of disordered eating but it’s ok if it’s under the guise of health i guess???
like how is calling it “clean” eating NOT a way to moralize food
how is intermittent fasting NOT the same thing as skipping meals
how come when i buy clothes that don’t fit, it’s something i have to tell my therapist about because it means i am putting pressure on myself to fit into them, but if a “normal” person does it then it’s just motivation for them?
where is the fucking line???
and more importantly when are we going to start acknowledging that the entire world is pro-ana but that’s too harsh of a description so we slap some health buzzwords on it to make it palatable
when are we going to take responsibility for encouraging disordered behavior instead of labeling those of us with EDs as the crazy/imbalanced ones
your fucking Whole30 or keto or whatever “clean” diet you’re on is just as restrictive as the diets we create for ourselves due to our disorders. but we are the crazy ones, right
Me @ my brother who has started eating one bowl of vegetables a day because “it’s just intermittent fasting”

you weren’t prepared for college. at all.
you never really felt the need to go to college and simply went for the pleasurable experience of friendships and parties. but no the one you won’t to.
you, of course, went to the most prestigious school in the region you lived in. the place was laced with hard working students and plenty of rich daddy’s girls. you swallowed all of the up-coming fears from the new environment and continued on with your daily tasks.
you probably couldn’t have done this without your best friend, kim seokjin. he was a home economics major who definitely enjoyed making dad jokes a little too much. you only got to really know him since you began attending this college.
speaking of, you major in bio-chem. to be honest, science has never been your strongest subject but you’re hoping the best classes with give you that extra motivation you need. unfortunately, that motivation has not come yet and it’s already the third term. exams are on the rise.
“can you please take a break, y/n?” seokjin asks with a projected voice coming from your shared kitchen. you don’t look up and continue to stare at the google document in front of you, proof reading your final paper for the fifth time.
“you’ve been reading that paper for hours now, it’s got to be perfect.” seokjin’s voice is laced with worry as he walks into your small bedroom, only to see you in a large, oversized pink hoodie which is oddly familiar.
“hey! isn’t that my hoodie?” seokjin asks, offended. taking you out of your focus, you look down and notice the fact that the hoodie you have on, isn’t yours.
“oh? sorry, ours just look so similar.” you begin to take the hoodie off to reveal your bralette underneath but seokjin hastily stops you.
you only look around now and notice the piles of crisp bags and socks hanging around the room. you take a deep sniff in and smell the treacherous of last nights pizza take out.
“this isn’t healthy, y/n. at all.” seokjin folds his arms and looks at you. behind his arms, you see his pink apron that his boyfriend, namjoon, got him.
“you’re only saying that because you major in health studies.” you groan sitting up for what feels like the first time in forever. you rub your eyes and stretch your back a bit.
“and you also study biology.” seokjin points out before picking up the pizza box, only to open it and see the left over pizza. he gags at the awful smell and brings it into the kitchen to throw out. if you weren’t sleep-deprived, on your period or stressed you would’ve given out to seokjin but you really, really weren’t in the mood.
“i hope this doesn’t interrupt your daily dose of body destruction,” seokjin begins as he leans against your doorway, looking at your tired form.
“but namjoon invited you, me and his friend to dinner tonight. so be ready by four, oh—“ seokjin almost forgets to add.
“wear something nice, it’s my future husband we’re talking about here.” seokjin exclaims with pure joy. you fake a smile before he leaves to room, you go to submit your paper but maybe,
you should check over it again.
the restaurant wasn’t no McDonald’s which was what you were expecting. it was a fancy, Italian restaurant downtown that had excellent reviews. you googled it in the car to explain to the uber where you were going.
you wore something relatively nice, well, seokjin told you that you looked pretty so it must be alright. it’s a red dress that you hadn’t worn since you first got into your party dreams about college, only for it to never be worn, until now.
you sit down in the dimly lit dinner after seeing namjoon and seokjin holding hands beside each other. you sit across from seokjin and greet the love birds.
“glad you could make it, y/n.” namjoon adds. he’s so sophisticated it makes you forget that he’s the same age as you. just shows what maturity can do to a person.
“jinnie’s been telling me how hard you’ve been working on your bio-chem paper.” namjoon smiles at you with sympathy but you don’t accept it. it was your own fault for leaving it so last minute. you look over at seokjin, expecting a “little too hard” or “she’s been eating pizza everyday this week” which namjoon wouldn’t approve of at all. but instead he just gives you the same sympathising look.
“anyways, namjoon, you said you invited a friend?” you say mostly to move on from the subject but also because you see no one else around them.
“ah yes, taehyung. he’s an artist so expect him to be fashionably late.” namjoon jokes as he snorts. and you thought you were late, arriving 20 minutes later than told. it’s been half an hour.
“don’t expect to get along with him immediately, y/n. he takes a lot of pride in his work.” you don’t exactly know what to take from namjoon’s words but you nod anyway, almost nervous for taehyung’s arrival.
almost instantly, a low voice resonates behind seokjin and namjoon as it enters the door. you look up and see this tall, elegantly handsome boy with black hair. he’s wearing a white loose shirt with black formal pants. you swear you almost drooled when he walk in through the door.
the said man makes eye contact with you from across the room and smirks almost before talking with one of the waiters, which then he escorts him to your table. taehyung smiles as he sees seokjin and namjoon.
“good evening, guys,” taehyung’s voice says politely after thanking the waiter. namjoon and seokjin smile back up at him before taheyung takes a seat beside you.
“y/n this taehyung, taehyung this is y/n.” namjoon introduces you politely. you hold out your hand to shake it but taehyung declines and moves his hand under the table, ignoring your presence completely.
you sit there as namjoon and seokjin mainly talk to taehyung, even when you tried to speak taheyung you just scoff with disgust at your words and advert his attention back to namjoon with a simple “anyway,”
by the time you got the menu, you were convinced you wanted to storm out and never see taehyung’s face ever again. unfortunately, only one of these things could be done. so you stayed for seokjin’s sake, knowing how upset he’d be if you walked out.
“i’ll order the dough balls and the medium pizza.” you tell the waiter, as he politely takes it down, taehyung, for the first time, replies to your words.
“a medium is pretty large, not that i’m saying you can’t take it.” taehyung’s stare is so condescending that you badly want to punch him in his face. you look at him for moment, swallowing your words and look back at the waiter.
“i’ll actually have a large and if i ‘can’t take it’, i’ll have a doggy bag.” you speak with confidence, hoping you shut taehyung up for the night. obviously not if the first thing he does after you speak is scoff with amusement.
“unbelievable.” he says under his breath but purposely loud so you could hear him. you hold your hand in a fist below the table as the waiter takes all of your table’s orders.
the rest of nights atmosphere so tense, sometimes it gets so quiet on the table you could hear a pin drop. but of course, taehyung’s thoughts and words are filled with his artwork as he drones on about his newest project. something to do with lights?— you honestly stopped listening when he said art in his first sentence.
namjoon and seokjin stand up to walk over and pay for your meals which you try to be perisitant and pay, even if it just meant to get away from taehyung. but you were defeated and forced to endure taehyung’s words, alone.
“actually, i’ve never asked what you major in, y/n.” taehyung teases you with his silky, annoying voice. you look at him, embracing your self for a joke that has something to do with your intelligence— or lack of it.
“bio-chem.” you feel the less words you say, the less material taehyung has to work with to embarrass you with. instead of pulling out a quick thought which he doesn’t process, he licks his soft, lushes lips.
“did your family want you to be a doctor?” taheyung spoke out, seemingly interested but you were not going to have taehyung bring up your family in his little self-amusing ways.
“my family and i aren’t on speaking terms.” you say with a serious attitude. taehyung is silenced as if he wasn’t expecting that response. you smile inside, happy you could shut him up even if it meant bringing up something so personal. you are almost certain he’ll use it against you in the future. if you have a future with him in it, which you highly doubt.
“how did you afford a college like this without daddy’s money?” taehyung’s words were strong but his voice seemed wondering. you sighed before sitting up straight .
“a job, in a pharmacy.” you spoke out, relaxing yourself a bit and holding your head in your hands, looking at taehyung.
“are you legally allowed to work there without a degree?” you feel taehyung tries to catch you out.
“not if the only thing you do is tell women were the tampons are.” you snort and you swear, even for a second, taehyung smiles at your joke before going back to his annoying ass face.
the rest of the night is still as horrible as it began but at least you left the restaurant a little bit satisfied, even if it was just food-wise.
but a known fact you learned from this awful night was that you never wanted to see taehyung’s face again. ever.
-
“so, what did you think of taehyung?” seokjin asks with a subtle doubt in his voice. you don’t answer and give him that look. you continue to look through the different books that were almost too high for you to reach.
“i know how bad he can seem, but that’s just a defense mechanism.” seokjin tries to excuse taehyung’s behaviour but you don’t buy it.
“what kind of defense mechanism calls someone fat?!” you whisper shout in the quiet library. you are picking up some books to begin studying because you haven’t gotten the chance to yet since you’ve been so busy with your paper.
“trust me, he was like that with me as well and then he got use to me, you should at least give him a chance.” seokjin tries to persuade but you simply roll your eyes at his behaviour.
“why should i? it’s not like i’m going to see him again, i’ve never met all year round, why should i get to know him now?” you speak out, picking up a book on advanced cell information. you flick through it for a moment, expecting seokjin to answer you back but he’s kinda nervous.
seokjin rubs the back of his neck and doesn’t make eye contact with you. you raise an eyebrow at him and tilt your head. seokjin gulps but doesn’t say anything.
“i think i saw jimin back there, i need to ask him something about our assignment.” seokjin excuses himself before quickly exiting your part of the library. you sigh at his behaviour before hearing a familiar voice.
“what did you think of y/n?” namjoon asks leaning against a wall of books. you peak through the place of the missing book you just picked up and see taehyung beside him. taehyung lazily looks over at namjoon.
“she’s weird.” taehyung responds as cold as ever. you scoff quietly so he doesn’t hear you.
“what makes you say that?” namjoon asks with annoyance, he didn’t like how taehyung behaved sometimes.
“i don’t know, she’s just not my type.” taehyung talks about you like you’re some love interest set up for him, which you are certainly not.
“how do you know? you haven’t really given her a chance.” namjoon asks which confuses you. you aren’t sure why namjoon pushes the idea of you both being together so you continue to listen.
“i don’t want to.” taehyung adds as namjoon sighs with frustration.
“how about this, you take y/n to jungkook’s party this weekend.” namjoon asks taehyung as your heart drops. there is no way in hell, you are going with that boy. he is nothing but irritating and selfish.
“and why would i do that?” taehyung didn’t respond immediately like he normally does, instead he thinks on it for a moment before looking back up at namjoon.
“seokjin and i believe that you and her would be good together. you both share an unbothered attitude and have the same humor.” namjoon persuades taehyung, now having his full attention.
“i didn’t find anything about that night funny,” taehyung admits, quickly closing his open book on the history of art during renaissance times.
“thanks for the idea, namjoon. but i’m okay.” taehyung smiles faintly before letting the older man walk away. you scoff and turn your back on taehyung before he can notice you.
taehyung taking me to jungkook’s party? what is seokjin and namjoon thinking?
“good morning, princess.” you turn at taehyung’s voice and see him leaning against the shelf beside you.
like you didn’t notice before, taehyung’s wearing another white but more informal shirt with some dark brown trousers. his hair is messier than that night.
“what with the nickname?” you try to remain calm and not let out the fact that you loved that name, but definitely not coming from his mouth. taehyung smiles at your annoyance.
“it fits you perfectly, arrogant and full of yourself.” taehyung continues making useless assumptions about you just to get on your nerves. you scoff again at the sad excuse of a hateful comment.
“well, mr irritating, why are you talking to me?” you ask him. taehyung rushes his hand through his hair in order to push it out of his face.
“i thought you might want to hear me talk to you after you stalked us.” taehyung smirks knowing he caught you off guard. a small blush creeps up on your cheeks as you look down.
“another thing, princess. that book’s not what your looking for, it’s on earth and space.” taehyung points out, remembering your major. you look down and as if like magic, it is on earth and space. you were so sleep-deprived, you saw a completely different book. taehyung sees your confusion and takes a book on bio-chem from the top shelf and hands it to you with care. you look back up at him as he simply smirks before walking off.
now taehyung was actually considering taking you to the party, mostly just to see that embarrassed face again.
