㊋ A New Beginning [SoF Open] ㊋
It seemed that the both of them hid the deep scars of their pasts behind masks. Even though Jack’s mask was cracked and oftentimes flawed, it was still a mask.
When people saw him stutter out an apology for nothing, or listened to his awkward pauses, it was hard to believe that he was a battle-hardened soldier with a body count in the triple digits. And when he spoke of his talents, that odd juxtaposition—of the painfully awkward introvert to the calculatingly efficient murderer—grew stranger.
It was easy to imagine Jack as a victim, but it was hard to believe him as one who had fought back with a rage that had shook the city to its foundations. It was a tale worth telling… but Jack would be hard-pressed to speak of it.
“Oh.” He blinked for a moment, processing Li Hua’s reassuring words. It wasn’t often that people said things like that to him. Why was she smiling? She had seemingly pinpointed the biggest reason for his awkwardness with a precision that was… well… it made Jack curious… and flustered yet again.
“Well. Um. We should get. You know. Going.” The former assassin abandoned his words, shifting his gaze from Li Hua’s. He began to walk, leading his new acquaintance to the dorms. As they walked, Jack maintained a slight distance—farther than what would be considered normal, though he constantly made sure that Li Hua saw where he was going. His preference for solitude and his eagerness to help her were in direct conflict, that much was clear.
Here we go. Already the tension between the two had grown. Maybe the woman had been too quick to the punch. She had a tendency to do so. It was definitely something she had said... Li Hua crossed her arms and closed her eyes for a brief moment as she followed the sound of Jack's heavy footsteps. Even his steps sounded a little off.
There had to be something she could do to break the silence. It was making her...well...a bit uncomfortable at best. Sometimes, peace could be as unnerving as the end of the world. She had many questions for Jack.
Why'd you get so anxious so sudden; was it something I said? What's it like here? What brought you to this place? ...What's with the sweater?
Eh, she wouldn't ask them. Some were just unnecessary. Others...could wait.
"How big's this campus anyways? Seems like an eternity to me."
Teachers lounging (Shion+Li Hua)
“Well I’m usually a bit more coordinated, I promise.” Shion gave a small laugh in answer to the woman’s comment. It was true. On a normal day he didn’t run into people or trip or loose his papers. But he’d let himself get distracted today. Sighing with a bit of disappointment in himself. He ran a hand through his hair once again, the habit showing more as he fumbled in front of the other teacher. He straightened up once all the papers were collected from the floor.
Shion nodded. “Yes I’m fine, thank you.” he said with a smile. “Are you? Did you get hurt? Sorry I bumped into you.” he organized his papers a bit again, trying to stack them into a neat pile. Once things were orderly he finally took a moment to look over the other, taking in her appearance.
“May I ask your name miss?” he asked with a slight tilt of his head, maroon eyes falling on the paper of his she had collected. “Thank you.”
Li Hua couldn't help but chuckle a little at the young man's question. It'd take much more than a simple shove or bump to rattle this woman. She had been through it all. Whether it was a pain in the ass or the hardest trial of the entire Rite, she had gotten through. Being a schoolteacher's not so bad. She just got a lot more...clumsy. Ah, how embarrassing.
"I'd worry about myself if I was you. I'm fine; don't sweat it."
She handed his forms back to him. This was probably the least hectic and insane greeting she had received in her entire career as a teacher at Tancho. Sure....it hadn't been that long but...still. She had slammed into another completely, who lost all of his composure. She had been greeted by a blade to the shoulder from a zombie...She had even been hit by a vespa. A lot happens here, that's for sure.
"Name's Li Hua. No formalities here; that'll do. And you?"
A clarification here.
Iron Mod again!
I am seeing some confusion in regards to these “complaints” — they have been about both anons directed towards the mun, as we have seen members receiving abuse for their portrayal of their character, which is absolutely NOT something we do in this community,
and they have also been about the increasing amount of OOC on the dash, silly anon questions being answered too much, and un-productive memes going around. Perhaps “complaints” was not the right word to use, but rather “concerns.”
We want everyone to have a fun, really active and well-done rp experience here, and by taking into consideration the rules and these mod notes, we can do that!
Thank you very much for your cooperation!
Mod Note: About OOC and Anons
Hello everyone! Iron Mod here with you tonight to ask a favor of all our lovely members.
I have received more than a few complaints from members of SoF, and have well, witnessed it myself, but it seems as though there’s an incredible amount of OOC and anon question answering that is incredibly irrelevant to roleplays going on and the like.
I won’t say that OOC and anon questions aren’t fun - but when they become the entire dash, we have a problem on our hands! So my dear members, I am asking for your cooperation. Keep your OOC to a minimum, and instead take your conversations to privately-answered messages, IM services, and personal accounts. This is not to say that OOC is NOT ALLOWED, but I am asking that everyone be a little more mindful of how much OOC they are posting.
Please remember that we do not currently have a meme day, nor do we wish to see many memes about. It is stated here in the rules:
However, we ask that you try to keep it to ones with some use; like asking for prompts or headcanon questions rather than FMKs. We also ask that you don’t clutter the dash with a lot of OOC or barely IC one-line posts and silly anon asks; some are okay, but please try to use them sparingly. This is still a serious roleplay group!
Upon checking my dash right now, all I saw were answers to anon questions. So please, while you may receive them, I ask that you remember the rules and answer them sparingly - if at all.
Please, we all just want to have fun here! And as it says in the rules, this is a serious RP group, and we would like to see a dash full of replies and interaction rather than memes, ooc, and anon asks.
I am asking for your collaboration, as this has been a great problem as of late, and many of our members are growing very frustrated. Thank you very much for listening and I hope things improve!

㊋ The Dead Shall Speak [SoF Event Open] ㊋
Jack was incensed, to put it mildly. He’d come to the surface to find peace, and now here he was, filling these shambling… things with lead. He didn’t know how it started, and he didn’t give two shits about its origin. All he cared about now was getting rid of these things, before he became one of… whatever the hell they were.
He hadn’t fought through an underwater madhouse just to get eaten by a goddamn corpse. The assassin reinforced his sentiments by lowering his gun and lifting one hand, aiming it at a nearby gaggle of zombies. Jack didn’t need to waste bullets on them, not now. The flesh of the raised hand was blackened, and underneath the charred exterior, a single vein of stark red moved up his thumb, and a tiny ball of intense fire danced around his fingers. With a loud snap and an accompanying foomp, a small nimbus of flame turned the ghouls into walking torches.
Switching to another Plasmid—this time, his hand was surrounded by a small vortex of wind—Jack literally blew them away, scattering the zombies like ninepins. He left them to burn, rounded the corner… and was promptly ambushed by another zombie. A millisecond before he lashed out with his fists, Jack realized that no foe stood before him. It was Li Hua. He blinked down at the woman, at the fist that was aimed to pulp his face.
“Miss Li. It’s me. Wynand. Let go.” His tone was neutral, but only just. His eyes flickered to the worrisome-looking wound on her shoulder, to her own eyes, which were glazed over with pain. It didn’t take long for him to add two and two together. “You’re… hurt.” There was a sense of urgency in his voice… and concern.
And to her surprise, there was the bumbling, clumsy man she had met a few days ago. Jack Wynand. Yeah, that was it. But he had a different air to him. Less disoriented and confused and...colder. What had happened? Was he actually brainwashed? If he was, he would've punched her in the face and busted a cap in her torso already. His eyes were strict, tight and focused. It seemed that he was used to such an invasion. Constantly at war...was it the Rite all over again? She loosened her grip on the man's woolen sweater and stood up. Blood stained his sweater, but she had the feeling it wasn't his. Hers, maybe? Or his victim's... Now wasn't the time for thinking, or formalities.
"Remember, you can just call me Li Hua. But we'll save the formalities for later."
The martial artist offered a hand to Jack and hoisted him up. He was armed with several pistols, that were battered and covered in war scars. Old friends, possibly. Just like her gloves, who had seen their fair share of gore and action. Li Hua felt a slight pity for each 'zombie' she had taken down. Some were students, and others were faculty. She hadn't run into one she recognized just yet but...wasn't this just like what she had done in the Brigade? Hurting the innocent to fight for them? It reminded her of the first time she laid eyes on Orlando. They had beaten each other senseless, even though they were fighting for the same cause. Orlando soon knocked her down and had the opportunity for the killing blow. However, the look in his eyes said otherwise. He hesitated and stopped. Would she....do the same with these innocent people?
Li Hua spun on her heel and high kicked another assailant off their feet and sent them crashing against the concrete. Blood splattered and sprayed on the woman's face and shoes. She kept a cold expression and faced Mr. Wynand once more, ignoring his statement about her injury. That didn't matter. People could die.
"We've got to find the source if this nonsense and stop it right here and now! I'll be damned if any students die on my watch!!"
I, Anshin'in-san, did defeat all of the mob characters of a shitty battle manga. Therefore, I deserve, an A+.
"Ha, good one! But you seem to be the only one who did this assignment. I'll give you what you asked for. I'm not much of a teacher anyways."
ATTENTION TANCHO SELF DEFENSE STUDENTS:

Run. That's all the came to the martial artist's mind. She hadn't been infected, but several deep cuts ran in one of her shoulders from fighting up close with one. What was going on? The school overrun by the walking dead? They were weaker than the other beasts she had to face during the Rite, but one had caught her by surprise. It held a weapon. A mighty blow was dealt of her left shoulder, but she scoffed it off. She had more important things to worry about. The safety of the helpless.
"If this wasn't a set up, I don't know what is."
Another undead assailant had latched its corpse to Li Hua's back, causing her to throw down yet another zombie on reflex. This was getting tedious. She had to find the source, and stop that at ALL costs. The world wouldn't end on her watch. The zombie outbreak could spread if she didn't stop it now.
The ravenette had taken refuge behind the faculty dorms, hoping there would be a stronger ally to lend her hand. With an injury, she couldn't do much on her own. She wasn't stupid, just a tad rebellious. She had felt the presence of another, and without thinking, Li Hua prepped her Iron Needle attack and rushed towards the figure.
She slammed the other against the ground and held a clenched fist near their face. Was it a friend or foe? Was it a student, or just another zombie? She wouldn't know until she snapped out of her brief daze.
