The woman who earned a law degree whilst simultaneously taking care of a very ill child. During many of my lengthy hospital stays I would wake up in the middle of the night and look over to see her sitting beside my hospital bed studying at 2am. The woman who always puts her children first and made sure we never wanted for anything. The woman who is an amazing mom as well as an amazing friend. S L U T That's what they will call you then tell you to "respect" yourself With a condescending head tilt and thinly veiled disdain They will see your portrayal of your sexuality as a pathology that they can pat themselves on the back for having diagnosed Many will assume that you must have been the victim of some heinous act of sexual abuse Maybe that's true. Maybe you wear short skirts because finally taking ownership of your body after years of being ashamed and thinking that you had no control coupled with feeling like your body was ruined by abuser feels damn good Or maybe it was just hot outside that day... The thing is, They'll never know because they will probably never ask. They may be too "polite" to voice that judgement to your face But not too polite to talk behind your back or insinuate that the only way a woman could possibly enjoy the many facets of her sexuality is to have fallen prey to a predatory abuser They will try to correlate your morality and your sexuality Not realizing that they are separate entities Or they'll condescendingly "defend" you to fellow, perhaps less tactful, misogynists by implying that you must not know better or that you simply weren't "raised right" Whatever that means... God forbid you ooze confidence and sex appeal They'll be damned before they let you walk this earth not being judged and crucified for not being ashamed to say that you're a sexual being and have the right to cover up or take it off whenever you damn well please It's hard for them to see beyond the dated and archaic dichotomy between being a "Mary" or a "Jezebel". A "Kim Kardashian" or an "Ayeesha Curry" Some may see that short dress as an invitation for a sexual advance because they will assume that, because you're a woman and society has conditioned us to be meek and demure, you are incapable of voicing your sexual desires or do not know enough to give consent They will think you wore that dress as a means of asking for sex because no one would expect you to speak up They'll assume, talk, judge and crucify They will hear you talk but they may not listen To them you're just a "slut" And that's all you'll ever be. -S. #FEMMEinist💅🏾💪
