"i dunno, i'm used to your grabby hands reaching for a joint," patrick murmurs, throwing his hands up in defense. why else would someone like toni hang out with someone like him. patrick wasn't sure what he expected or how the other would react to his words. it certainly wasn't this. his eyebrows raised at the extra weight on top of him. patrick keeps his hands at his side (for now) and looks up at toni. "would you think it's stupid?"

"grabby?" she echoed with a chiming laugh, poking his chest playfully. "i don't like how you're characterizing me here, patty...." but there was no stopping the smile that continued to split across her face. his complaint, while a bit petulant, was also the first express sign of interest she'd received. her hands rose to cradle his cheeks as he looked up at her, shaking her head gently as an answer to his question before her fingers began combing through his hair slowly, tucking blonde strands back behind his ears thoughtfully and allowing her nails to drag gently over his scalp. "and what about this? is this good?"

finn did not step back, though erika's nearness forced his gaze downward to meet her eyes. he was acutely aware of the silence—no footmen, no secretaries, just the two of them. his hands were folded behind his back in a tight clasp, knuckles pressed tight enough that a faint pulse ran up his forearms, a physical tether to protocol. "i intend to do as my king instructed, and nothing more," he began, the silence pressing in, interrupted only by the faint clink of chandelier crystals shifting overhead. "the gallery is just ahead. if you wish, i can escort you," he offered, then checked himself. he cleared his throat and evened his voice. "unless you prefer the thrill of navigating moonlight corridors unaccompanied, in which case i am happy to look the other way."

his words struck a chord with her, likely more than he'd ever know, and erika couldn't help the quiet hum of approval that settled on berried lips. "yes, i suspect that is true," she mused with a wry smirk as dark tresses cascaded over her shoulder, laying in front of her face like an inky waterfall until long, pale fingers broke through the darkness to tuck them back behind her ear. "an escort from the moon prince himself?" she could practically hear her father jumping with glee back in his guest quarters. dark eyes left his face to scan the empty hallways, stretching on endlessly with an ominous, enveloping silence that had a shiver running down her spine. "grateful as i am for your indiscretion, i believe my unaccompanied tour has run its course...." her gaze slowly returned to study his face, weight shifting to the balls of her feet. "i would be glad for the company." and even gladder to take a step and begin the trek back— the palace ground was far too solid. the longer her father extended their visit, the more restless she became without sands shifting beneath her feet with the sway of gentle waves. but she has not forsaken her task completely. "is this another of many your duties then, your highness? nightly patrols of empty corridors?"

someone was going to come looking for him eventually. how could they not? the lead singer of the band about to set off on their first world tour had disappeared into thin air, vanished into smoke after going out to pick up a fresh pack of cigarettes like some kind of magician— gone without a trace. mik had been told he was pretty his entire life, getting complimented by strangers was as commonplace as breathing but now it felt more like a curse than a blessing. nova's focus on him was intimidating, surprisingly so from someone who looked so sweet. if she had the capability to steal him off the street before he could understand what was happening, what else was she capable of? "sorry..." mik's apology came out as a timid squeak, and he was quick to try and clear his throat. he had promised that, but only because he didn't want to face whatever the fuck she was going to do if he didn't play along. "i just— i really have somewhere i've gotta be..." for a wannabe rockstar, he was meek and scared of conflict, especially when it felt as though his life were at risk.

it had come to her about an hour into his captivity, how she recognized him. of course he had looked familiar... but then all of her muses looked familiar to nova. they came to her in dreams, haunted her until she finally found them and made a monument to their impact on her. but there was no denying the brief flashes of web articles or instagram reels featuring him and his band that resurfaced in her memory as she studied him. still holding onto his chin, her face slowly relaxed out of it's stony affectation at his apology and instead adopted a small, satisfied smile before picking his lips with her own. satisfied, she was happy to return to her drawing, not batting an eye when he spoke again. "and you'll get there that much faster if you sit still, silly!" dark brows furrowing as she shadowed the hollows of his cheeks, she suddenly looked up with a stricken expression as though his pleas had finally gotten through to her. "y'know... i would have thought that if anyone was going to understand it would be another artist," she lamented, meeting his gaze. "don't you ever get, like— possessed by the need to get something out of your head?"

"ah, heard all of that did you?" honey says, running a hand down her face before turning around to see the other. he looked as devastatingly handsome as always. "were you eavesdropping or were they being obviously loud again?" honey's lips twitched, forming a small smile. it was nice for someone to be on her side for once. "i think my siblings have always punished me for being born last, y'know? start off already behind everyone." she looks back towards the house where no doubt her siblings were laughing and mingling. "it almost seems like you're hiding out here, too."

his own apologetic smile was all he answered her with at first. "mm.. maybe a little bit of both. they were loud, but i probably could've walked further down the block. another neighborhood over, maybe." he smirked at her assessment of her siblings, remembering coming to his own familiar conclusions about his siblings when he was younger. "probably. it must be hard, seeing the younger, better looking version of you get to go through life with more help than they had..." beni took another slow drag from the cigarette between his fingers, taking a few steps closer. "me? hiding?" his tone was incredulous, but the way his smile stretched into a wide grin gave him away. "i've grown really accustomed to silence since moving out on my own. it's.... hard to jump back into chaos like that."

erika floated into eion's line of vision like cherry blossom petals floating in the wind. had he not been caught up in his own thoughts he might have seen her more aggressive approach to engaging him in a conversation but as she began to speak, his daydreams were blown away and he was met with her pretty visage, ignorant to any alternative motives lingering beneath the surface. "is that so?" for the first time that night, a smile found its way onto eion's face, yet he did not place the glass down to be forgotten. "forgive me for saying so, but an early night does not sound so terrible to me. it is a beautiful celebration, but perhaps i am not in a festive mood." his father, while powerful, was not a pleasant man and his plan to send eion away to the neighbouring kingdoms in search of a bride was going just as well as the prince had assumed it would. no one wanted part of the melchior dynasty, meaning eion had been spending most of the parties he had wormed his way into occupying dark corners, wishing for the comfort of his home and the warm bodies of his concubines. realising how ungrateful he sounded, eion shook his head with a bashful smile and turned his face down to avoid meeting any judgement in her eyes. "i must sound brattish, i apologise for burdening you with my troubles. are you enjoying yourself?"

she certainly couldn't begrudge him the desire for an escape. or, at the very least, a means of distraction from the veiled threats and negotiations woven into vapid conversations decorated with false compliments. as erika often did, she let him speak without interruption. so much could be learned simply by letting others fill the silence, and in his brief rambling she learned that he wasn't particularly careful with his words. perfect. "no," she answered with a small, conspiratorial smile of her own. "were i not acutely aware of the aftermath my brother's concoction caused, i might even be tempted to join you." as if she'd ever allow that poison past her lips. taking matters into her own hands, erika stepped closer until her fingers could close around his own to lift the glass from his grip. she sniffed it cautiously, nose wrinkling in disgust. "tell me then: how would your evening be better spent if you were not under the obligation of flattering my father with your very presence?"

"mmm, i don't believe that for a second." tatum's hand didn't leave teddie's elbow, thumb pressing just firmly enough to be felt through the fabric. "you moved all the way out here for your husband's career, left everything familiar behind, and you're telling me you're boring?" stepping closer, tate was invading the space that teddie seemed to want to guard, dropping her voice. tatum finally released her elbow, only to slide her hand down to the blonde's wrist. "lucky for you, i happen to love a project. and i have excellent taste in wine, access to the best reservation in town⸺my husband owns the building, obviously⸺and absolutely nothing else to do if there's something interesting to unwrap." a little hum left her lips, looking her over. "so. tomorrow night. i'll pick you up at seven. you can show me just how boring you really are."

her eyes dropped briefly to the vice grip tatum kept on her elbow, but teddie knew better than to try and shake her off. best just to keep smiling. "boring and very accommodating... my father always said it was a terrible combination." she swallowed past the surprise that rose suddenly in her throat, threatening to reveal itself as the other woman slid closer. her heartbeat was thundering in her ears suddenly and despite her brain screaming for an exit route, teddie felt glued to the spot as tatum spoke. "s-seven? oh, i'm not sure i..." she had nothing going on, of course, but something about the idea of spending more time with tatum terrified her. and excited her. both were concerning. "⸺just the two of us?"

"alrighty," kennedy said, pushing through the elaborate kitchen doors. "for the first course, i've prepared a pear and arugula salad, complete with walnuts and goat cheese." she moves to the dining table, setting down plates in front of guests. at first, she doesn't notice them until she catches a familiar scent of cinnamon and musk. "uh- here's your salad," kennedy recovers after nearly stumbling. she's too close to them, it makes her heart stutter. "um, please enjoy, i will prepare the next course," she squeaks to the rest of the group, hurrying herself back into the kitchen.

unfortunately, he recognizes her voice immediately and the speed with which his head whips around to confirm his fears is almost incriminating. javier maintains his cool as she makes her way around the room, of course, well versed in composing himself under pressure, but there's a distinct tension in his jaw when he excuses himself shortly after to sneak into the kitchen after her. when the door closes behind him, though, suddenly javi is at a loss for words. "—— in hindsight, i really should've asked the name of the company you work for."

"oh, do not apologize. beautiful it may be, but i am afraid it serves also as a rather unforgiving maze." she offers an apologetic smile (as though the garden is hers to apologize for) before dipping into a casual curtsy. "forgive me: nadya idrisova, i am a childhood friend of eloise and maryanne—" though, for the time being, she can't help but hope her companions are off gallivanting in the kitchens or the foyer. "and you are...?"

she isn't trying to be evasive, but he's right that nari has been sulking. or, more accurately, she's spent most of the night lost in her own head replaying events she can't change now. it's not until joonho calls her out on it that an embarrassed flush rises to her cheeks. "and, as per usual, it simply looks too pretty to eat," she tries with a weak smile (as though she hasn't demolished delicately piped icing before in her hunger). finally, though, with her chin in her hand, nari meets his gaze. "i got passed up on this commercial gig i auditioned for." the admission comes with a dismissive shrug and a roll of her eyes, but she can feel the lump rising in her throat just by saying it aloud. "i'm starting to think maybe this acting thing isn't for me after all.... if all else fails, you'll let me work here, right?"

she shouldn't be here tonight, but the confines of her childhood bedroom were starting to feel like a prison cell and a jailbreak was in order. esme didn't have much of a plan in mind, but she had dressed to kill and was typing in the address into the uber app before she could stop herself. when she spotted nico behind the bar, she had already made up her mind to make some bad decisions tonight. and a few drinks in, well, she didn't care much about where they were — only about how badly she needed him to touch her. her breath hitches as lips traverse the expanse of her neck, her body arching to press herself back into him further. " it's all for you, " she admits, almost grateful that he's behind her so he can't see how flushed her cheeks are, " you did this to me. "

"— and if it didn't work? if things ended poorly and we weren't friends anymore or even in each other's lives after it was all over.... you'd be able to live with that?" she tries, briefly, to imagine a world without him in it and retreats from the nightmare immediately.
