bingewatching will never come close to bingereading. there is nothing like blocking out the entire Earth for ten hours to read a book in one sitting no food no water no shower no bra and emerging at the end with no idea what time it is or where you are, a dried-up prune that's sensitive to light and loud noises because you've been in your room in the dark reading by the glow of a single LED. it's like coming back after a three-month vacation in another dimension and now you have to go downstairs and make dinner. absolutely transcendental
Mourning Tiktok in a âbrain rotâ way, but also in a âthe continual loss of information, creations, and a visual record of human activity via direct government interference breaks me as historianâ way.
I think the wildest thing about the TikTok Ban is that TikTok decided to adhere to it beyond the letter of the law.
They bent their knee willingly and gave up space and a platform they did not have to. They consciously decided to fuck over their user base when there was no valid reason for them to do so.
I've seen people talking about how you absolutely do not want to obey ahead of authority, and to see TikTok do it is... weird. It's unsettling. It feels like a dangerous stunt.
Specifically, it feels performative. It's got the marks of a Great Dramaâą, and given Trump's first 4 years and his absolutely bonkers love for theatrics over anything else, this just feels hollow. Like TikTok is trying to turn it's - generally younger - user base into "fans" of the republicans.
They can't really scoop up youths any other way, honestly. But using a big impactful story and putting Trump as the "hero" who saves their beloved platform.
It's not even the 20th and I just don't like how this new administration is starting. I do not like a private company complying beyond the letter of the law in advance of that law either. Because the only thing the law laid down was that they couldn't update the app on Apple and Google.
There wouldn't have been any fines or legal ramifications.
They didnât even wait until the 19th to ban TikTok. Honestly I hope people realize how big this situation is. TikTok was a news outlet for a lot of Americans who couldnât get proper news and information (especially when their own news stations are just propaganda and fake news we donât need to hear), it was also a home to many small businesses and people just trying to make a living. The US government is NOT banning it because of âdataâ or whatever shit they made upâthey are banning it to control the masses. This is bullshit.
âIâm not on tiktok anyway so this does not affect meâ no???? itâs not just about tiktok or whether or not you like the app??? itâs about them being able to censor and control what they want and what they donât want people to see. itâs about them being able to keep people uneducated for the sake of their personal gain and benefits.
(itâs also about small businesses who relied on tiktok to gain customers / income.)
that being said, if the only thing you care about is the platforms youâre on, sorry to break it to you, but if they can ban tiktok, they can go after any other platforms too.
they can go after tumblr, archive of our own, instagram, youtube, facebook, etc, you name it.
it actually does affect you.
crawling back to this tumblr account after the tiktok ban feels like driving back to my old home in the countryside,, gently wiping away the cobwebs and the dust that's settled in my absence,, nothing changed, nothing out of place,, a memory of a forgotten era; frozen in time,,
Don't you fucking dare compare TikTok to Vine. ITS NOT THE SAME THING
Vine went away cuz it couldn't afford to stay active
TikTok went away because congress RIPPED it away from us. It let to many activist groups connect faster than ever before; it let too many voices of dissent be heard louder than ever before; and most importantly it was more popular than Facebook, Twitter( cuz fuck that X bullshit), and instagram.
I understand losing both of these platforms hurt, I was alive for vine's death to. But don't let yourself be fooled into a falce equivalence.
Vine died
TikTok was murdered.
I miss the era of the internet where everyone had an evil alter ego/character that would show up on their channel, just to be silly, that eventually got a lot of lore from the fandom for no reason. It was a simpler time.

how grover be moving around with his magic winged-shoes from luke:
So, when the Batkids get hurt, like, seriously hurt, they logically know that they best place they could go is the batcave. Fully stocked infirmary, the most updated medical technology possible, and Alfred to give them tea and sew up all of the wounds that they can't quite reach.
However, if any of them are even mildly beefing with Bruce, which they almost always are, they'll be damned if they're gonna face The Disappointed Bat Glare (tm) while also bleeding out, much less the speech that will inevitably follow.
This leads to either
A. The batkids sneaking into each others apartments and safehouses to get help, aka
Tim: -humming to himself as he flicks on the lights of the common room at Titans Tower-
Dick: -slumped on the couch dripping blood from two stab wounds- Hey, Timmy. Could you get your med kit?
Tim: -brief high pitched scream- FUCK!!! -long silence- Yeah, sure.
Dick: Great. Also, Bart heard me calling for you in the dark, and he thought I was a ghost of some sort. I think he ran to Mexico to get away, so you might want to track him down.
B. The batkids attempting to sneak into the batcave and patch themselves up without Bruce realizing they were ever there, aka
Jason: -sneaking through the medical bay in the dark, trying to silently open drawers when the lights suddenly come on-
Alfred: -standing by the light switch- Master Jason, may I inquire as to what you're doing here?
Jason: -actively gushing blood from his side- ....Nothing.
Alfred: Do you require stitches?
Jason: ....No.
Alfred: -actively pulling out the supplies to stitch up his wound- If you say so, Master Jason.
I find the fact that the closest mountain point on earth to the moon, the highest mountain and the tallest mountain are 3 different mountains to be a tiny bit disturbing
Explain
The world's highest mountain is the most beloved, it is mount everest, the mountain that's farthest from sea level. If you connected the other two to everest by a slide and put a ball on everest, it will slide down to the other two (in a frictionless perfect world)
The world's tallest mountain is mauna kea, it's almost 4000 feet taller than everest if you measure from base to top, most of it is underwater though
The world's closest mountain to the stars is mount Chimborazo, it is both shorter and less high than the other two, but it is closer to the equator, so the bulge of earth makes it ever so slightly farther from the center, so it is closer to the stars
So yeah, 3 ways to measure, 3 results
Earth is weird

ever since I watched The Substance, I've noticed I'm taking better care of myself. I didn't realize it at first, since I originally felt like I couldn't personally relate to it since I'm not even 30 years old yet and will not be Elizabeth for another 20 years, but I started noticing that I've been like...putting in the effort to save myself stress in the future? like every time I find myself about to do something that I'll be paying for later (eating an extra bit of junk food, tossing something on my desk instead of putting it away properly, not brushing my teeth right away after I take a shower and am already in the bathroom), I kind of pause and think to myself, "Is this another one of those situations where my younger self is making my older self suffer for this?" why does "younger self" have to mean 20-30 years old and "older self" have to mean 50+ years old? why can't "younger self" be present me, and "older self" be me in a few hours?
older me is going to feel nauseous all night because younger me wanted to eat more junk food. older me is going to have to spend a while cleaning her desk because younger me kept letting things pile up. older me is going to have to drag herself into the bathroom to brush her teeth when she's exhausted because younger me didn't wanna brush my teeth when I was only a little bit tired. suddenly when I frame it like that, it's easier to put in the effort to put away things right away and resist eating more junk food to save my older self some stress.
I'm usually not that great at taking care of myself because for whatever reason it's always been harder to do things when it's just for me, but thinking about it as me taking care of my older self makes it way easier. I do it for her
