ic ;; Izuku staggered into the UA infirmary, clutching his side as blood stained the fabric of his school uniform. He muttered an apology to Recovery Girl as she scurried over to him, but was barely able to hear her scolding even as she begrudgingly led him over towards on of the hospital cots. The world around him seemed to have just...frozen.
He probably couldn’t save them.
He’d thought he could. And he’d tried so hard; god he’d tried.
But he’d been too late. The villain had almost destroyed the city and several people along with it. He didn’t know how many injured people there were who had needed help. But Izuku...he hadn’t been able to do anything. He’d tried to use his quirk against the villain but it rebounded back on him and nearly knocked him unconscious. The only reason he’d been able to even make it to the infirmary was because a police officer found him. They’d recognised his uniform and taken him back to UA, knowing Recovery Girl was there.
And Izuku? He was useless. Someone could have died because of his failure- they hadn’t, but who’s to say it couldn’t have easily happened if the pro heroes and police had come mere seconds later than what they had? He wasn’t worthy of this power that All Might had given him. He’d seen something in Izuku that nobody else had; and he’d thrown it back in his face. He’d failed him.
So when he heard Toshinori’s familiar voice behind him, a sob finally worked its way out through his lips, and a river of emotion that had been quelled by sheer adrenaline coursed through his body. The police must have told him. Tears steadily began to run down his cheeks, his breathing staggered and uneven as his bloodied hands reached up to cover his face.
“I-I’m s-so s-sorry All Might!!”
