Yuta and Rika were sickly children and found connection at the hospital they were staying at. I guess that was his only friend, and her likewise. She died violently in front of him at an age he can understand death, and it stuck with him. He has survivors guilt and has been lonely since. The bullying did not help. The boy is suicidal.
Skip forward to when hes caught by jujutsu society, hes forced to make a purpose for himself to be in it. Gojo won't let him die. He decides he wants to be needed, and to help people. He does not want to be alone- all a reason to stay alive. He needs to feel good about staying alive.
Skip forward to after his very first mission, very uneducated courtesy of Gojo, he realizes he has cursed Rika to be with him and vows to break it. After he breaks the curse, he wants to reenter normal society without her. Until then hes going to hone her until he can figure out how to unravel her. Skip forward to the very end, he basically marries her so she can go kookoo crazy and attack geto big style. It works. That unravels the curse. Gojo is also conveniently there to tell him that him and Yuta are super distant relatives, and that explains his power. Rika was cursed with him for 6 years
He and toge develop a friendship on his second mission. But there was a grade one curse they excorsized that was not supposed to be there. It was a trap set up by geto to inspect Yuta's Rika to later recruit him in his cause to kill literally everybody else.
Geto came to jujutsu high one day to declare war. On Dec 24, he calls it the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, he will unleash curses to the public in Tokyo and Kyoto. He was bluffing. His true plan is to steal Rika because she is a special grade curse. There's only 16. And only 4 special grade curse users. He would have enough cursed energy to carry out his next plans.
Jujutsu society has gone all out to defeat the curses in the city, and they were well prepared. They evacuated most people even. But they left behind- by both sides of the war- the weakest links.
Geto ultimately loses against Rika and Yuta, and his arm is blown off, but he doesn't die. Gojo sees him off to tell him I love you or some shi, then slices his throat or some shi, then LEAVES HIM THEREEEE. HE LEAVES HIM THEREEEEE. And we've never saw him again...... :[ oh the tragedy
