“It’s you and me that matters to me and you.”
an authority figure: [expresses slight, arguable disappointment in me]
me, shaking: Wow. Can’t Believe I’m The Worst Person Alive
authority figure: *is in a bad mood or even is just less friendly than usual*
me, stomach in knots: My fault? I must be the cause of this?
yet somehow also me:

does anyone else feel like they’ve created such a rich inner experience in your own daydreams and prolonged solitude due to inevitable circumstances such as being alone for a good portion of your life that you feel kind of stuck? I feel like I’ve been so immersed in my own daydreams and alone time that leaving it feels so weird sometimes and I’m constantly stuck in this dream-reality phase lol
Everyone is saying that this is maladaptive daydreaming and while I can see it, I think that bringing these things down to diagnoses instead of forming a conversation on why and how and how it’s affecting us ignores how none of this is accidental. I think the fact that being chronically bored ever since I was a child is much more telling of the kind of world I live in than it does about me, because we could go over what each and every one of us has as a diagnosis/potential diagnosis but it would be a much more effective and interesting conversation if we turned it away from ourselves for a second and like, blamed it on the fact that actualizing our goals seems so far-fetched and can even be out of our hands as children due to being poor or because of our parents not nurturing our passions, growing up in a stressful home, etc. This culture of overwork also makes it so much easier to settle for time spent in your imagination than time spent toward fulfilling hobbies that add pleasure to your life and it’s sad
“Boredom is different nowadays. It’s about super-saturation, distraction, restlessness. I am often bored but it’s not for lack of options: a thousand TV channels, the bounty of Netflix, countless net radio stations, innumerable unlistened-to albums, unwatched DVDs and unread books, the maze-like archive of YouTube. Today’s boredom is not hungry, a response to deprivation; it is a loss of cultural appetite, in response to the surfeit of claims on your attention and time.”

living in the countryside really strikes the fear of god into you at the most random moments. you’ll just make eye contact with a cow or stare for too long into a brook and all of a sudden you’ll think something like “these are old bones and i am merely a passing occupant” and then you have to go and put the kettle on to cope
