HEADCANONS / SHORT BIO
TW: Bullying, Internalised homophobia
There’s a big gap between Bella and her sisters. She lived the first 5 years of her life as an only child. Spoiled, untethered and off leash. Andromeda was the first to disrupt her peace. She stole the attention, and her and Bella clashed from the beginning. Narcissa was different. By the time Cissy was born, the gap between them was so wide that Bella couldn’t help but view her as almost a doll, her baby sister – in need of guidance.
Bella’s teachers despaired of her at school. She was so often out of control – becoming obsessed with strange topics and magic, all the while refusing to listen to what her instructors were actually trying to teach her. Bullying became a problem. Letter after letter was sent home to her parents, imploring them to intervene. They never did – not once she explained who her bullying was targeting, muggleborn students.
She received punishments from the school of course, detentions, suspensions, bans from trips to Hogsmead. None of them worked – she didn’t respect the authority of the teachers, saw each punishment as a challenge, to prove what she could take and to show the adults that they had no power over her. She began to realise that she craved it, the attention, the challenge, the chance to put others in their place.
Her parents may not have cared about her Hogwarts rebellions, but they did care when she began to misbehave at society events. Multiple times Bella was caught sneaking off with the other debutants – she seemed to enjoy it, corrupting perfect pureblood daughters, showing she was better than the pureblood men they were there to meet. Her parents were beginning to fear she would never marry.
Then Andromeda left. If anything, it made Bella respect her more. Perhaps she had some backbone after all, even if she was a blood traitor.
The loss of one daughter, however, made it even more important that Bella accept her role as a pureblood wife and mother. Narcissa was sure to make a good match, she had always been the prettiest of the three sisters, but nothing was more important than guaranteeing the family line.
Rodolphus was a surprise. She hadn’t expected to ever meet a man she actually looked forward to spending time with. There’s might not be a love match, but he is her partner all the same. They have the same goals, the same passions, and the same willingness to do whatever it takes to further the Dark Lord’s cause.
Bella has always had a habit of becoming obsessed, ever since she was a little child. The Dark Lord is her latest obsession. She cannot hold down a job, cannot behave in the way that is expected of a good pureblood woman, but she has never been any less than in his eyes. Her passion, her taste for violence, her unwavering loyalty, all of it makes her the perfect soldier for him. Finally, Bella has found a place she can belong.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Headcannons
Bella did try to find employment after high school. She worked in the Ministry, in different magical not-for-profits and for a very brief stint at a wizarding newspaper. Like clockwork, however, at the 3-month mark she would find herself fired. She always explained it away with a perfectly polished had wave and a smile – they were boring, weren’t ready for her vision, were scared to hear the truth. She knows she’s the problem. She snaps, gets sick of taking orders and rebels in a way that leaves them little choice. Its impressive really, even with all of the family’s influence and power people weren’t willing to risk her and her temper. Eventually she decided it was easier to just give up.
Bella has always known she likes women. She has also always known what was expected of her. Be the perfect pureblood, marry a rich pure-blood man, make perfect little pureblood babies. The path seemed pretty simple to her, play with the women she wanted, take what she could get from them and know it could never last. She wasn’t sure she believed in love anyway – so did it really matter if she couldn’t love the man she would eventually marry?
