F2F → A Set-Up
Artie listening intently, nodding at what he deemed the right time to do such to prove he was actually listening. He hadn’t been very social with anyone from school except for an occasional twitter shout out or instagram like on a photo. He had been too wrapped up in his own work with filming his independent movies that he just wasn’t sparing anyone from school head space. But seeing as everyone else seemed to have gone their own way, he didn’t feel that guilty about it either. After taking a long sip from his drink once she was done, he can only chuckle under his breath.Â
“I’m surprised you haven’t heard that I’m one of the hottest independent movie directors in the city,” he makes his hands twirl next to his head in his gesturing. “Or so I’ve been told. You can’t really trust that many people in this industry.” Artie adds an eye roll. Deciding those dramatic stories could be saved for a later time. “I have a few documentaries on Netflix right now, about the New York lifestyle for those with disabilities. It hit close to home so I thought it was a good subject matter to film on. And that took off like a wild fire for the first few weeks when it came out, so there’s that.” Maybe he does puff his chest in a little ego stroke to himself, even giving a little bow of his head before laughing it off.
“Also have a film about music going on right now. Nothing too elaborate, but I think it’ll get some people’s attention. I just enjoy directing, so in the end it doesn’t really matter how well it does. I mean, as long as I get recognized and people are still watching what I do, that’s what makes it worth it.” Artie shrugs, taking another sip of his drink just to catch his breath. Now he felt like he was talking about himself too much. He hadn’t been on many dates, and the ones he had tried were just with inspiring actresses who wanted to get into the director’s pants. And after that STD scare he had a few months ago, he was being far more careful with the people he went to bed with so it hadn’t been a positive experience. It was only the knowledge of having known Sugar briefly in the past that was setting him more at ease since he knew no matter how the date ended it wasn’t as if they would fall out of each others lives completely.
“But having a flexible schedule has to be nice,” he adds, placing his glass back down. “Maybe down the line we could collaborate a little something. I mean, if you were ever interested. No pressure.”
“Well, you know Abrams is just so common in the movie industry,” Sugar said, slightly joking. She had heard other writers at work talking about some guy named Abrams, but how was she expected to put that and an old high school friend together? The odds were just too low for her to expect that or this encounter. “I’ll have to look those up. I’m due for a good Netflix, binge-watch day,” She said picking up her glass of water to take a sip. She shrugged. “I mean, when I’m in between my Kardashian episodes, of course,” She said with a small roll to her eyes and a small laugh.
“I’ll definitely keep a collaboration in mind,” Sugar continued with a small smile. “I don’t do entertainment pieces often, but if it means that I get to hang out on a movie set or go to a concert, I’m all for it!” She said enthusiastically. Sugar loved her job and all of the perks that came with it. She had been sent to fashion shows and attended the most recent New York Fashion Week for a short event. About halfway through college, Sugar realized that she would much rather get a job writing about fashion than being a designer. That way, she could go to the show and get all of the perks but actually enjoy it.
The waitress then came with their breadsticks. They were good, but weren’t like Breadstix breadsticks. Sugar wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing. “You chose a good place, Artie,” She said looking around the restaurant. It was a cute, little place that was relatively close to her apartment. In all honesty, Sugar didn’t eat in many places near hear and chose to dine in places closer to her office. “How did you find it?” She asked shifting in her seat a little.
