If Stelena is endgame Wouldn't u think they would've mentioned his feelings for her still ?
The thing is, they have. Just because Stefan hasn’t screamed from the top of the rooftops, “I AM IN LOVE WITH ELENA!”, doesn’t mean that his feelings for her haven’t been mentioned, because they have, but just in very subtle ways. Also, like I’ve said before, right now Stefan isn’t in love with Elena and he doesn’t have to be for them to be endgame. All we need to see is that there’s the potential for it to happen, which we have seen.
In season 8 so far Stefan has said the following when talking about Elena:
A few years ago I sat on top of that ferris wheel with Elena and told her to appreciate these moments, because moments are all we have. (x)
This was a chapter in my life when I was good. I loved her. (x)
You think this is where your love story began, but the truth is Elena never would’ve looked at you twice if I had been there that day. (x)
You know, when I gave this [necklace] to Elena it was to protect her from you. (x)
Take it from me, Elena Gilbert never really goes away. (x)
Admittedly, not all of these are in relation to his feelings for her, but any mention of her is still significant because why is Stefan even talking about her at all? There’s a post about this that I saw a week or so ago that talks about this (x) and it makes a very important point. Unlike any other of the many sunken ships on the show (and let’s be honest, there’s a lot) Stelena are the only one that is still getting regular mentions. Why is that? Why is it important for Stefan to talk about her? Why is it important for him to tell Damon that Elena wouldn’t have looked at him twice if he’d been there to dance with her in 1x19? Why’s he telling him he gave her the necklace to protect her from Damon? More significantly, why is he saying Elena Gilbert never really goes away, if he’s completely over her?
And the excuse of “fan-baiting” can’t be used here because it’s invalid. Klaroline is one of the biggest fandoms the show has, I mean they’re huge and are constantly desperate for their ship to get some kind of recognition or mention, but it never happens. I can’t even recall there being one single Klaroline mention (besides the TVD/TO crossover way back in season 7), yet we have up to six Stelena mentions so far in season 8. If the writers wanted to lure a fandom to watch to increase viewings or ratings, then they’d go for a ship like Klaroline, not Stelena.
So yeah, if you look close enough Stefan has talked about his feelings for Elena multiple times throughout season 8, but you have to sometimes dig deeper to see them. But the biggest indicator of his feelings, which spells it right out for you, is the quote “Take it from me, Elena Gilbert never really goes away.” I mean…that just says it all. Even after all these years he still carries Elena in his heart and if that’s not significant I don’t know what is.
