I cannot stress this enough. I cannot stop thinking about what Noah went through — both as a person and as an actor — just to give Will Byers a proper story. It is so cruel it honestly makes my blood boil.
• First off, Noah literally felt afraid to even ask the writers for a proper, sensible ending for his character. Imagine being the person who’s lived with this character for years, who has shaped him, who cares so deeply about the story and queer representation, and yet feeling like even asking for a decent conclusion might get you mocked, or ignored. And then even after he asks? They still fail him. They still cannot accomplish a coherent, respectful, and emotionally satisfying ending for Will.
• Then, there’s the live panels. The Duffer Brothers, in front of fans, tell him they would have “written him off” if there’d been a sixth season. That’s not a joke. That’s not banter. That’s clearly meant to humiliate him. And they did it on a live stage, publicly. Think about that for a second — the actor who has poured himself into this role for 10 years, treated like his work and input don’t matter, like he’s disposable.
• And the live panels didn’t stop there. When Noah jokingly mentioned all the ideas he’d pitched, all the things he’d suggested to make Will’s arc meaningful — things that were shut down — they responded with: “What more could you possibly want?” This is after years of being ignored and dismissed. This is blatant gaslighting.
• During the press tour for season 5, Noah was actively prevented from talking about Byler. He couldn’t defend the story, he couldn’t share his perspective, he couldn’t even acknowledge what fans cared about. And so he barely spoke at all during early promo, which people may have misread as disinterest or lack of passion — when the reality is that he was silenced by the showrunners themselves.
• And let’s talk about the actual writing. The Duffer Brothers finally gave Will a coming out scene in the final season, but they made him live through a full unrequited love arc in the same season, knowing that Noah personally related to that experience. And the scene itself? Noah filmed it for twelve hours straight. TWELVE HOURS. He cares deeply about queer representation. He put himself through months of stress and trauma, knowing how important it was to do justice to the character. And the way they handled it? It’s like they built the emotional intensity of Will’s arc around inflicting stress on the actor rather than crafting a thoughtful story.
• And then there’s the wrap gift: Will’s painting. A gesture that could have been sweet, that could have been meaningful, that should have been celebratory — but given the context, it reads as cruel, ironic, and manipulative. After months of anxiety, after having his ideas ignored, after being publicly embarrassed multiple times — the gift doesn’t land as a reward. It lands as a reminder.
• We haven’t even gotten into the emotional toll. Noah was dissociating between takes, literally needing three days of sleep after filming the coming out scene. He had to relive aspects of his own life — his own trauma — in front of a film crew, to give the fans something meaningful. And then the episode gets review-bombed by homophobes online, while the Duffer Brothers mock him in interviews and panels. This isn’t just callous. This is active psychological cruelty.
I might sound like I’m overanalyzing, but I see it. Every interaction, every decision, every “joke” and panel comment — it’s a pattern. It’s a narrative built around undermining Noah, diminishing Byler, and controlling queer representation in a way that’s harmful rather than affirming.
Noah has been fighting for this representation for years. He cared. He stressed. He advocated. And the showrunners? They treated him like a prop. Like a punchline. Like his labor, his stress, and his personal connection didn’t matter at all.
So yes. I might read too many thrillers. I might watch too many crime documentaries. But I see patterns. I see cruelty. I see a system of emotional manipulation and silencing that is frankly horrifying. And I needed to say it because nobody else seems to want to.
Noah Schnapp deserved better. Will Byers deserved better. Byler deserved better. And queer fans deserve better than a story shaped around humiliating the actor who cares most about it.

i will genuinely never recover from the indirect byler kiss via the water bottle. from a film language perspective alone, that is deliberate blocking. and the way mike never takes his eyes off will? that’s not accidental coverage, that’s performance intention. finn and noah were absolutely playing byler romantically, the micro gestures and expressions, the eyeline discipline, the emotional continuity between shots… it’s all there.
and if it’s true that noah asked for that scene? then you can bet they discussed the emotional beats beforehand. actors don’t just stumble into that level of synchronised subtext. those two were rooting for byler, and the camera caught every second of it.
Mike Wheeler was just made unambiguously, or—in practical terms—canonically queer.
I just found a brilliant thread on Twitter by @stachaser about the Jack Kerouac poster visible in epilogue Mike’s college bedroom (written in Portuguese but I included the full translation under this embedded link).
Here’s the translation:
They can do whatever they want, but nothing will change the fact that Mike is implicitly queer.
He’s the only character—along with Robin and Will—who has queer references inside the series.
In fact, he has even more references than Robin and Will, who are canonically part of the community.
He knew community terms back in the 80s.
He defended a queer punk rock band [Butthole Surfers] that used queer references both in its name and in its lyrics.
He has a Jack Kerouac poster in his damn bedroom—a bisexual writer.
If he likes Jack Kerouac, then he likes Allen Ginsberg too, who was openly gay and Jack’s best friend.
He knows the Beat movement, which was against conservatism and conformity.
In his works, Jack talked about attraction and passion for other men—and not only that, but also about the religious guilt of feeling it, which could very well be a sign of Mike’s own internalized homophobia.
Mike, canonically, likes works, music, and literature that go against the norms and standards of society at the time.
He canonically likes songs that make fun of fragile masculinity.
The band he likes so much has an explicitly queer name, and its songs do too.
He appreciates Jack’s works, which talk about desire for other men.
None of that is there by accident. Those elements are carefully chosen to fit together and make sense with the character’s personality.
Mike is a writer who is against conformity, likes works that mock it, defends freedom, and rejects imposed standards.
I don’t know which old bald white guy prevented him from being officially gay in the show, but all the references to Mike’s sexuality are in the show itself—implicitly—even in his last scenes.
I don’t care if you disagree or come insult me. I’m not going to see it because my notifications are turned off. So you can cry and seethe in my comments or in the quotes—I don’t give a damn.
Nothing is going to change the fact that Mike is, yes, implicitly queer.
Mike was never made official as a straight character, so considering him straight is also a headcanon.
He never rejected Will—he never even knew about Will’s feelings.
The Byler ending was left totally open to the audience’s interpretation, as was Mike’s sexuality.
And it’s not just his personal tastes that are queer-coded—his clothes in S4 were, too, yes, deliberately thought through. All the characters’ outfits have details with meanings.
And if you’ve never studied the Beat Generation or don’t know Allen and Jack, I recommend looking them up and reading their works!
There’s also the movie Kill Your Darlings, which talks about the start of Allen’s career, his friendships, his SEXUALITY, and the beginning of the Beat Generation.
You can’t talk about Jack without talking about Allen, and you can’t avoid talking about the Beat Generation.
They were its pillars, and that movement opened the way for freedom of sexual expression.
Allen defended that openly.
They were important figures who challenged the norms.
Mike having him in his room means more than many people think.
listen, regardless of there not being any secret episode, we just made the best widely accepted fan theory of all time and i personally. take it to be canon.
like you cannot tell me mike wheeler isn’t actively being vecna’d in volume two, and that the epilogue is him writing the only future he can depressingly imagine for himself now that he has lost.
but what he doesn’t know is that will and el are fighting so hard to get him back.

Lets talk about the editing in Stranger things season 5, 'cause things don't add up.
(The radio tower scene, specifically)
This is Netflix' most popular, most expensive and most ambitious show. This season alone is guested to costed up to 480 MILLION dollars.
For that price, you have people checking your every single move. You blow a hair out of your face and 3 people are hired to glue it right back into place for continuity purposes.
That's why i found it so strange nobody on their team caught that Holly's sleeve logo was full in frame.

The mistake was caught almost immediately by the audience and i believe within the hour it was fixed on streaming.
But why.
They edited these episodes well into december, how can you not notice that?

The biggest arrow pointing to this theory is the power dail in the radio tower. When you first see it with Steve in episode 1 (vol.1), it is gray. But in episodes 5 (vol.2) with Robin, its red.

If that was a silly mistake (which, first of all, is a 'mistake' the design people couldn't be caught dead making, ESPECIALLY in a production in this scale), then why not edit it just like Holly's logo? Why keep it if its not plot relevant.
I made most of these points also in my Birthday-Gate theory post . With the wrong dates etc.. Why keep those things edited in while showing how easy you can change it.
Now lets get into what i found today.
This show is known for its transitions. For example the elevator door to the sky and the WSKQ van in episode two
an example of their creative scene transitions (ignore the speed change, needed to make it a gif)
They literally write these transitions into their script, so you must be important to them and very well thought out.
Then why is the upside down radio tower scene a full on mess?
I went back to check on a thing someone mentioned, but when I actually watched the scenes, so many more mishaps were revealed.
Things are repeated, people are switching places, PEOPLE ARE GONE from one shot to another and so much more. In a production like this, it's a literal mess.
Every single one of these mistakes I can see as that, a little mistake. It happens! But all of them together? That's a much bigger point they're probably trying to make on purpose.
These are the ones I noticed (Need to say some of these were already pointed out by much smarter people than me) This part is gonna sound kinda unhinged and nitpicky so please bear with me.
The ladder order
Mike and will were talking for around 1,5 minute during the "No, best friends!" Scene, and nobody came by on the ladder. So they must've been the last. Only when shown on the top, the order is Steve, Lucas, Mike, (Mike again?), Joyce;
Will just spawns.
Both Mike and Nancy go up the ladder twice. (I removed the clip of the view and you see very clearly how it repeats.) You can see how she goes from Jonathan's side to them both being back at the ladder
Robin also spawns suddenly next to steve. You can argue it happens out of frame, but the cut is weird nonetheless.
Cut away all the unnecessary scenes to show how illogical this scene is
Also, this scene is bothering me a lot. When i first watched it during my research for this, I thought I already cut in it. But no. The way it cuts from a wide shot, to another wide shot from almost the same angle so you very much noticed the continuity mistake? That's unusual.
Then there's the magical disappearance of Mike Wheeler!
Cause one moment he's there:
And the next, you guest it, he's not!
I know for a fact that there are a LOT of people that should've caught that. Who's JOB it is to prevent this (Like the script supervisor). To add to that, wouldn't people notice one of their main actors missing mid filming?
So it must be intentional. Right?
The scene right after this is also the last time we see Will till they're walking in Dimention X
Well, we see him, but either his back or he and Joyce are behind a pole. (Always with Joyce too, no idea how that's connected)
But wait, if you look closely, right when Dustin tries to climbs up;
Who is this?! Because that is sure as hell not Will.
Throughout the scene we get to see close ups from everybody, except Joyce and Will. Why do we only either see his back, or a blank face?
Were Noah and Winona suddenly not available? That seems unlikely. I get using stand-ins and stunt performers are necessary for certain shots, but like this? No close up, or interaction at all?
Overall, this scene is messing with my mind a lot. Call me crazy (i deserve that) but i needed to get it out my brain.
