BASTET MINI SHRINE!!!

For my 3D foundations art class we were supposed to create a miniature of a space that was important to us. I was stumped until I remembered the Field Museum in Chicago, which has an excellent Ancient Egypt section.

In honor of Bastet, I decided to recreate the special shrine they have in the museum, which has stuff related to Her and just cats in general.

Here are the pics i used as reference.

Once i have more room, I intend to make it a basic altar for Bastet. Ik its sloppy in some spaces and I had to rush some things. Overall I hope the lady of jubilation enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it.

As I scroll through the Kemetism, Kemetic, Kemeticism, Kemetic Paganism, and Kemet tags I'm starting to piece together how few resources there are actually abound about the entire religion. Now I know it's hard to sift through archeological find after archeological find, and it's even more difficult to know you're doing something right, so I'm half tempted on starting a series of posts about the topic.

Some of these posts may have tips and advice for worship. Some may tackle topics on the culture of Kemet. A few may be some ways you can tell you're doing the right thing and ways to reassure yourself; as I see a lot of 'how to do x' and not enough of 'how you know you're doing good'.

But then again that's just a thought process. Who knows maybe I won't. However I've been practicing literally all my life, so perhaps it can be helpful.

i think the reason it appears that there aren't resources is because the kemetic community on tumblr died a swift death when verizon destroyed the site back in 2015.

for those who haven't been around on this hellsite since 2013, there are enough free resources online for a complete newb to walk up to kemeticism and be able to learn everything necessary for basic practice. it was something we specifically set out to do back in the heyday of this website. but i'm finding most ppl don't know where to look (or don't bother lol let's be honest)

both myself and @satsekhem both have resource lists (i'm only tagging sat because they're one of the only kemetics that i know that is still active lol. there used to be a lot more out there when ppl were active):

there's also tagged stuff on both of our tumblr sites (when in doubt, srsly just come to either blog and search what you're looking for in the tags. you'll probably find something)

for those who are new to the religion, i urge you to learn how to search for stuff on the websites that are still active. there's tons of information out there that isn't academic or dense in nature, you just need to learn how to find it.

as for how do you know you're doing good, i personally don't think there is an actual litmus that is inclusive and actually works. i've watched kemetics be absolute garbage humans in the name of ma'at and no god has come to smite them down, and discernment is highly susceptible to personal bias, etc. that's probably why most posts focus on "quit over analyzing and just go with it" because, imo, there is no defacto way to actually prove that someone is doing "good" at being a kemetic, but. you know.

Sept 5: After working on Her for 8 days, She's finally complete. I worked with a House member to come up with the hieroglyphics that actually MEAN something and aren't just random symbols. I painted them on, very carefully. 10+ hours of work, blood, sweat, and tears, lots of love and devotion, I'm finally happy with how She's come out. Dua Sekhmet!

Sekhmet has always been a goddess that has watched over me and guided me on my path, and in retrospect, I have come to the conclusion that the aspect of Sekhmet that showed herself to me when I was young and a teenager dealing with emotional abuse was Sekhmet-Mut. Thank you, Sekhmet, for being in my life, both as the watchful and firey Eye of Ra, and as Sekhmet-Mut, the motherly one. Dua Sekhmet!
