It's kind of horrifying but true (and representative of struggles of real life victims in spaces with other victims) that the two probably most abused and traumatised members of the Foxes are the two that are sidelined, called Monsters, and barely tolerated. They have the least support. They are ridiculed, joked about, and called names. One of them is physically assaulted by the others multiple times. Their coping mechanisms are not recognised. Bad habits are encouraged.

If we are traumatised and abused and can be "good" or "normal" so should you.

girl help i'm thinking about an au where neil finds a stray cat after mary dies but before joining the foxes and him trying to ignore the cat at first but it keeps following him and following him and he's so lonely and he's so used to not being alone he's so used to always having his mom that he eventually stops telling the cat to go away and eventually feeds it and eventually cares for it and by the time wymack shows up the cat is essentially a fucking emotional support animal (but it's the mid 2000's so no one calls it that) and neil has to be like i'll join the team IF you can fucking PROMISE that i keep my cat with me

@renees-bruised-knuckles this is so funny but also yes absolutely, it's the most scrungly hissing monstrosity of a cat in existence, it looks like an evil cartoon villain and also like it hates everyone but neil, when neil ends up joining the monsters the upperclassman are like "we should've known look at your fucking cat" and they mean it as a joke but neil does not joke about his cat (that saved him) and lowkey gives them the silent treatment for a few days
