Another white rape case ends without jail time

David Becker, 18, allegedly sexually assaulted two women while they were asleep. He was charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault and battery, he will receive just two years of probation. And if he doesn’t violate probation — the long term consequences will be even more lenient.

I am a 30 year old woman. When I was in high school, a story of what happened to a girl over the weekend started circulating first thing Monday morning at school. The story was that one of the girls I went to school with passed out at a party and a bunch of guys used a Corona bottle to violate her. Most of the people in my school shamed her or made fun of the situation. She never came forward, she never filed complaints, no charges were ever filed. She had to live the rest of her high school days with the knowledge that a significant amount of her peers knew about that happening before she even did and that the ‘friends’ she was with didn’t do anything to stop it from happening...and even worse, the ‘friends’ she was with were also the people who did this to her. I have no idea if this still affects her, I know it would me. Sexual assault doesn’t end when the assault ends, you have to live with it every day or your life.

This is just another story, another truth, another fact that I can share as to why I decided to write this webcomic.

you know what’s really genuinely unsettling? the degree to which men fucking do not want to sympathize with/be interested in women.

male audiences will happily watch a dozen superhero shows, but then something like Agent Carter or Supergirl turn up and they’re panned from the first trailer and have to struggle for ratings. male audiences will watch countless installments of a franchise as long as it’s about men doing man things but the second a character like Rey or Furiosa or god forbid four entire female Ghostbusters steps up and takes a position of prominence it’s “pandering sjw bullshit”.

it’s not pandering. men just aggressively don’t want to have to be invested in a woman’s narrative and it’s really gross.

In regards to “Mad Max: Fury Road” in particular, I’ve had a lot of guys I know say it was just to pander to female audiences into watching an action film…clearly they don’t understand what is required to prevent human beings from going extinct. Having women used as ‘breeders’ just went right over their little heads. A lot more was happening in the film, of course, but I’ll leave my comments just on the reproductive rights stance alone.

Welcome to BLOODLUST comic’s Tumblr page. The accompanying image is a teaser of the official website which will go live October 2016. All new pages of the comic will be posted there.

A little about BLOODLUST: writer Samantha Winslow had penned some pages in short-story form and decided she wanted to explore presenting her story idea in comic form. Chris Murphy had been tattooing Samantha for over a year at the time Samantha began writing BLOODLUST. She reached out to him to gauge his interest in working on a project which focused solely on RAPE CULTURE and GENDER INEQUALITY. Both Chris and Samantha feel passionately about these unsettling truths. The purpose of this webcomic is to bring these topics to a new medium and continue the important dialogue they both require.
