With how I see it and write it Wil's got two major personalities (it's still him, not like DID or something, just a result of trauma). These two are both clearly distinct but also similar.

This became a mini-essay whoops

On one hand you've got the original and technically the default: William J. Barnum or The Colonel.

William is complicated, he's a guy who holds grudges and anger but is also very loyal to his friends even when he thinks they're being ridiculous. He's a charmer and flirt but he's also a walking hypocrite, the kind of man to sleep with a guys wife and then gets mad at the man for being upset while also trying to keep a clean reputation.

He's got a solid sense of the world though loses that view quickly under anger. Definitely got some temper issues.

Then you have what happens after WKM, the broken-minded entity: Wilford 'MOTHERLOVING' Warfstache.

He let go of all his worries and stress, living without much of reality or inhibitions. He doesn't obey time, or physics, or social norms, or law.

Death is both something he understands very intimately but also forgets the consequences of often. He knows he kills and he knows when someone is "dead" but it doesn't mean the same thing anymore. I mean, The DA got back up right (or was that Damien)? Death isn't permanent, it can't be.

He's a lot more open then William, a lot less of a hypocrite, still a charmer and a flirt but a lot less concerned about the repercussions.

He fluctuates between them seemingly at random but will slip into one or the other at certain times. He's more likely to wake up as William, spend most of the day as Wilford, and go to bed somewhere in the middle.

I like to use the pink in his design to signify this with less pink being William and more pink being Wilford.

This is of course not mentioning the many other personalities and characters he's made of himself over the years that I get to make up on the fly :3

Idk man he already kinda personifies the sub a bit and there's really no one else around to love

Maybe in the heat and delirium and desperation he starts referring to the sub as her, starts seeing her as the only one whos never judged him, has stayed intact and protecting him

A good partner at the end of humanity

Dark/Spruce/Wilford tidbits <3

Wilford/Spruce:

Wilford likes to brush and braid Spruces fur so everyone can always tell if they spent any time near each other

Spruce teases Wilford all the time for his mustache (affectionately)

Spruce has multiple pages written just about Wilfords outfits

Wilford likes shooter/survival games, Spruce likes sandboxs

Their shared bed is covered in plushies and blankets though rarely actually gets slept in

Spruce borrows clothing from Wilford often

Dark/Spruce:

Dark hates whenever Spruces fur is noticeably out of place often fixing it themself before they even notice, Dark does not however often actually brush their fur

Spruce straightens Darks tie whenever they notice it out of place

Dark has offered on multiple occasions for Spruce to wear their clothes, unfortunately all they own is suits and dresses

Dark has a bad habit of overworking themself/not sleeping, if Spruce thinks they've been working too long they will sit on them in increasingly inconvenient ways until they take a break

Spruce has gotten really good at reading Darks moods despite their blank face, this frustrates Dark often

Dark/Spruce/Wilford:

Often have long debates together, there's never a "winner" it's all for the love of the game

Dark and Wilford fight over who gets to choose Spruces outfit, they have to dress them otherwise Spruce would go out not wearing anything

All three sleep together on Darks bed when they're all around

Have an active sex life together

I adore how many parallels Simon has with the different Markiplier Egos

Simon and Annus who are both living on limited time

Simon and Dark (Celine and Damien) who were doomed to die by something higher than them from the start

Simon, Engineer Mark, and Wilford who didn't mean for anything to happen yet hurt people again and again

Simon and Actor Mark who hurt others in frustration and anger
