So, in Fellowship Gandalf didn't escape Saruman by summoning an Eagle via moth, the Eagle showed up on his own, which means the moth has no lore and that upset me, because until Gandalf grabbed him, he was just a normal moth fleeing the destruction of his home below.
I like to think he had an entire Hero's Journey adventure on his way to the Eagles learning of bravery and courage, mercy and loss, and that the only light he needed to follow was the one inside himself. Then he earned the Eagles respect and the aid of Gwaihir the Wind Lord in the rescuing of Gandalf the Grey after a plea so moving none of its like had been heard since Eärendil himself appealed to the Lords of the West in the Blessed Realm.
But he wasn't the same moth he was when he started his journey, so he stayed with the Eagles and they had their own epic series of events leading them to the final battle, along with Radaghast the Brown who fell into shadow during their journey across the Brown Lands. Hes fine, he just sprained an ankle and they left him behind.
When he fluttered past Gandalfs face, what you didnt see was that he went around flying into orcs faces to blind them to enemy swords, saving Eomer King from a fatal blow and ensuring his name would be sung in the Golden Hall of Edoras for years beyond count.
Its not until after King Elessar's coronation that Gandalf reveals to him he's the last descendant of Wilwarin the Grey Winged, the lost Moth Lord that saved Gandalf during the Hobbit movie, and he was crowned Soronúmë the Swift, Lord of the Moths.
Gwahir presented the newly crowned Lord- who had come so far since Gandalf had sent him fresh-winged out of Isengard and into the annals of history, with the ancient Mothstone of his peoples that had been entusted to his care after Lord Wilwarin was lost in the Field of Lights; for he knew Soronúmë's path was not to stay amongst their people, but to learn how to lead his own when the time came.
And so it was that at the closing of the Third Age in the newly established Mothlórien within the boarders of Ithilien that Soronúmë son of Landroval, Malosar, Wilwarin's heir began his reign, and the scattered Moths of Isengard found there a new home and a kind Lord, and pollinated under the clear stars in an endless spring.
And when at last the day came that the Eagles were called home and returned to Manwë in the West, Gwaihir sang to the Lord of the Valar the Song of Soronúmë the Swift, so that even the gods may know it, and his name would ring in the Blessed Realm until the end of days.
Thus ends the Quentalë Soronúmeo.
